Wes purchased this Chalet in 2010
Why Wes chose Tulameen
This well appointed and beautifully finished Chalet is in the ideal location, located close to the city of Vancouver (3.5 hours) in an area that will have limited future growth. The outdoors, the adventure of exploration, riding ATV's and snowmobiling, the amount of activities available were a huge attraction.
What makes this Chalet unique
The Kettle Valley railway and Trans Canada Trail run through the area, directly across Otter Lake from our place. This is truly a four season vacation destination. The Alder has a huge Deck off the front of the Chalet that provides unparalleled views up the lake, perfect for entertaining, eating and general relaxation.

It's a home away from home
I have now stayed at this cabin 3 times, twice in the winter and once in the summer, and I absolutely love it! It's not often that you can go somewhere and feel so at home and comfortable instantly. The cabin is fully stocked with everything you need. It has every kitchen amenity needed, lots of blankets and towels. The owners are super easy to deal with and genuinely want you to have a great time at their cabin! I can't wait to go back again.
Delightful Winter Wonderland!
We are grateful to Wes and Lori for making their Alder Chalet available as a rental for guests! It’s truly a beautiful, warm, and inviting vacation home! Lori is easy to communicate with and very responsive. It was a joy to work with her.
We were two families, with 8 children ranging from 5 to 17 yrs. eager for a fun winter getaway in the snow. After driving over the pass in a snowstorm, we tumbled into the Alder with great delight and anticipation. Immediately everyone felt cozy and at home. We toted all our food in and had plenty of pantry space and two refrigerators to store all our goods (and more). The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare, cook, and consume our meals with ease...the big kitchen table (we even found an extra leaf to extend the table) was perfect for us to all gather together for sustenance and conversation to feed body and soul!
We slept soundly on the comfortable beds. My husband and I took the room with a bunk...queen on bottom and single on top...our 5 year old was pleased to have the special bed above us! Spacious dressers and closets made it easy to stow away clothes. There’s plenty of space to spread out with a sitting area upstairs and one on the main floor - which provide comfy places for everyone to play games, relax and enjoy themselves when we weren’t outside playing in the snow or in town skating at the amazing community ice arena. The fireplace is perfect for defrosting after sledding, snowshoeing, and ice skating. Our children brought some games, but discovered we didn’t need to because there’s a chest full of cards and great games to play!
Not only is the Alder a wonderful place on the inside, but it’s perfectly located in a charming town and surrounded by incredible beauty, and right by the lake no less! The view from the cabin is breathtaking. I can imagine how magnificent the Alder must be in the summer…but it was so spectacular piled high with snow, we’re already dreaming of another winter getaway there!
We visited the Alder as a group of 8 for a long weekend getaway. The pictures had already promised much but everything still exceeded our expectations. The common living area is great for enjoying a glass of wine at the fireplace at night, the kitchen was well stocked with utensils and everything we need, yet still had enough storage space for all the food we had stocked up with for the trip. The BBQ on the deck was easily accessible from the kitchen. The big dining table, a great gathering place for breakfasts and dinners with more than enough space for all of us (and would've fitted 2-4 people more if needed be). I loved the fact that it was such an open space yet still had a lot of nooks and niches for some privacy. We felt at home instantly.
Our absolute highlight though was probably the amazing view form the windows in the mornings, looking onto the frozen lake (there was even a small patch prepared for skating) surrounded by the mountains and trees; and the cozy fire pit that added that extra bit of magic to each night.
Thank you Wes and Lori. We hope we'll be back soon.
Liz, thank you for your delightful review of our property. The Alder is a wonderful place to stay in the Winter and the Summer alike. There are definitely bigger and more beautiful homes on the lake, but you make a great point, The Alder is very functional and comfy, with a spectacular view up the Lake. Pease come back soon.
Cabin was clean and well equipped. We enjoyed the small town, lake and hike to the falls. Beautiful quiet area.
Would stay here again.
Best Cabin We've EVER Rented (and we rent a lot!!)
We had such a fantastic time this past weekend!! The house is BEAUTIFUL, fully stocked with everything you could possibly need....the patio is huge, the basketball net was a HUGE unexpected bonus!! Indoors and out, we loved everything about this beautiful home!!
We can't wait to return next year!! Thank you so much!!
The house was very well appointed. We were quite impressed. The pictures of the house were accurate, which was nice. We would absolutely return.
Thank You for the kind words Caroline. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay at The Alder.
Otter Valley and the surrounding mountains are a mecca for ATV and snowmobile enthusiasts with a near unlimited area to explore.
