Large comfortable home with nice pool and close to the beach
This home had everything you need from kitchenware to towels. We ate half of our meals here including using the gas barbecue. We really enjoyed the pool.
Overall a great house but in desperate need of updates/maintenance to make it 5 stars
This house is large, spacious and wonderfully located in Kailua by the beach. But it desperately needs a long list of updates and overall maintenance to make it a 5 star home. It's hard to find a house this size to rent, so we were grateful for the space given that my husband and I were traveling with both sets of parents, my sister and her family of 3 + our 4 month old baby. To list just a few things, there are no screens on any of the doors so you need to close up the house once the sun goes down, many windows were broken in bedrooms /bathrooms, the refrigerator was a floor model and didn't work well, often shutting itself off without any notice so on our first day we nearly lost an entire fridge full of fresh food after discovering it had been off long enough for everything in the freezer to melt. We spent a lot of the week worrying if the fridge was still on, which was the biggest headache of our stay. We ended up using 2 coolers for all our drinks the whole 8 days we were there since the fridge never got super cold even when working. The lighting in the living room was bad with exposed bulbs on the ceiling fans, and the handrail going upstairs had been taped together at the joint on the landing (which was very dangerous). The curtains in the master bedroom were moldy and didn't cover the windows fully.
There were other small things that I won't go into.
The manager of the house was very responsive and apologetic about everything - we spoke almost every day about one thing or another - but most of the issues were too big for her to address on her own immediately (save for providing us with coolers she borrowed from friends). After we departed the owner followed up since I sent a long list of grievances to the manager - he was very defensive and only offered us $200 refund (I had asked that he comp us the cost of one night). While I appreciate the fact that he reached out at all, $200 is a small concession given the fact that we spent over $7000 for an 8 night stay.
One additional note - I re-read the other reviews after our stay and I see that people have complained of the same things I've noted from as far back as 2013.
We did enjoy our stay and still managed to have a wonderful vacation with our families. But we will not stay again.
Mixed review on this one
The location of the property is good, a few blocks from the beach (This one is kid friendly.) and a longer but very doable walk to town. The unit has a lovely small pool and overall is well equipped. The advertisement says it sleeps 14. We had 13 and fortunately some were children who were okay with sleeping on sofas and lumpy futons. This would not be the place for 14 adults. The property notebook even says it is set up to sleep 10 and any bedding you use beyond that is your responsibility to leave clean and put away. When we asked for more sheets, we got them very quickly. One of the sofa beds was broken so one of our teens who was short enough to use it did. Power went out which I guess is not unusual and when it came back on, garage door didn't work. Tenants before us put some glass and hard plastic down the garbage disposal so when we turned it on, it sounded horrible and even after fishing out debris, it finally died. Freezer door must be constantly monitored as it doesn't close well on its own. Also, outside garbage can was almost full when we arrived. Nichole, the property manger, was helpful in many ways (One example, she had a Christmas tree set up for us with lovely ornaments as souvenirs.) but the breaker box that might have put power to the door was never found by us. Part of the house is lovely and other parts are kind of very inexpensive motel. Some areas need deeper cleaning than just a vacuum and furniture dusting. We did some cooking there and the cooking pots really need to be replaced - badly scratched Teflon I would not use at home. I don't want this review to sound overly critical, but I guess I had hoped for more, even at Christmas. Most of my complaints are simple things that I did not expect to encounter and can be easily fixed.
Perfect Family Home
This home was perfect for our crew of 12 which included two babies, one 10 months the other 18 months. The fenced in front lawn area was great to have for the babies to run around in safely and the impromptu game of catch. Kitchen was perfect size for all of the cooks to work together. Perfect number of beds and bathrooms with LeAnne making sure we had both a pack ‘n play along with a portable crib for the babies. Great neighborhood with an easy short walk to the beach. We loved it!
Great layout Adequate accommodation for 11 from 2 to 70.Kailua perfect holiday destination.
Some general maintenance and a thorough clean needed especially louvres ,windows and floor mats
BBQ was greasy and unusable despite promise to be cleaned
A couple of broken chairs and lights and absent umbrella stand.
However pool and house facilities were fine .Good supply of towels etc and beach/ pool toys
Good location handy to beach and town
Would be great value if minor problems attended to.
PS bonus game room/ 5th bedroom quite hot without a ceiling fan
Brilliant house for a big get together
Kailua is a wonderful location on the east coast of Oahu and the beach 5 mins down the road made it possible to easily walk back and forth from the house. The town has everything you need with three supermarkets, a big Target and lots of independent shops and restaurants. We enjoyed the 10 min walk in for a coffee or lunch. We also found everyone friendly and helpful. There is a wonderful shop called Island Treasures to buy gifts to take home.
The house is well laid out with plenty of room to spread out. We were a family group of 11 with 3 children aged 5-7 and a baby. There is plenty of space to find a quiet corner if necessary and the pool is easily accessed from the lounge door and terrace. The pool is quite deep at the far end, but as the children all swim well and were always with adult supervision this was fine for us.
There are plenty of fans but no air con, so we found it quite hot at night having come from a much cooler climate.
All the rooms were clean and we all found the beds comfortable. Someone mentioned that the seating in the lounge was not comfortable, but we found it worked well with all the children and to be honest we did not spend much time sitting down.
We found food prep easy and it was great to have the space to sit together comfortably to share meals.
We all loved our time on the island and found the driving easy and the traffic was not as bad as anticipated.
Leanne was excellent and was always available if required.
I would highly recommend the company and property.
