Great apartment, great location!

  • 5 of 5

We recently rented this apartment in July. We stayed three nights. The apartment was clean and more than enough room for six of us to sleep. Will was great answering any questions we had. When we arrived, he provided us with a map and list of local restaurants to try. Lombardi's Pizzeria was amazing. The local bar next door was great to relax and enjoy the end of the day with a cold beer and in the morning, the coffee shop on the other side came in really handy. The subway is only a couple of blocks away so easy access. Lots of great walking around areas to check out. Would highly recommend this place!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was a fantastic base for our family. It was as described, spacious and ideal for travelling with teenage boys. The location is brilliant so close to great shops and landmarks. Will the landlord is great and extremely helpful. Overall a fantastic property and location and excellent value. Would definitely want to return. Thanks Will for a great 7 nights stay.

Such nice pix & great reviews, but...

  • 2 of 5

Don't get me wrong, we had a great time visiting NYC and the location of the apartment is really terrific... such a cool area to explore & SO many great restaurants within walking distance (omg that rice pudding place on the next block is FANTASTIC!) PLUS very close to subway stop, etc. etc. The apartment had all the necessary amenities & the owner was very friendly & helpful, too. BUT.... we found the apt. to be less clean & bright than the pix in the listing. It was kind of dark & dank, not a place you really wanted to hang out. Several of the electrical outlets were missing outlet covers with raw wires hanging out & the shower door leaked & the steep stairs that led down to the apartment were broken & frankly, quite dangerous. Sorry to be a pickypants, but for the amount of rent he is charging, you would think he could afford to have a handyman come over every once in awhile to keep things in ship shape. Finally, it is quite noisy. We were prepared for the noise of the steam heating pipes in the walls having been amply warned about those & they were actually not that bad. But there are THREE super hip bars on the block which party loudly until all hours w/people standing right outside the apartment door laughing & smoking, & then there's a coffee house/bakery over your head which opens at the crack of dawn & you can hear them working with big equipment & talking in there, so we got very little sleep! I would be totally fine with all of this & chalked it up to a wild urban adventure IF it wasn't so $$$. Just glad we got the winter discount rate because if I had been paying $400+/night, I would be REALLY annoyed.

Owner's Response: So glad the guest liked the location and all the local restaurants shops, convenience to subway. The guest came in March, which is the time of year with the least amount of sunlight, so unfortunately there will be less light than other times of the year during the summer, spring and even fall. While it was true that a prior guest had broken the cover to an outlet, that has been fixed long ago. The stairs are tiled, and during the winter of 2015, a tile broke and was missing. It has been repaired! This review from a guest in March was posted 9 months later in October. Please take the time to read the other reviews, all very positive. Anyone that has stayed here and stayed elsewhere returns to this apartment. It is cleaned after each stay, and the comfortable size is unusual as it is a true two bedroom apartment in downtown Manhattan. While most visitors understand that this is Manhattan, and there will be some street noise no matter where you stay, having lived in the building for many years, this is no different than other city apartments. There have been dozens and dozens of happy guests, yet obviously, this is one who was not happy. I reviewed the emails from the guest during her stay and noted that her husband became ill during their trip. I don’t know if that colored their visit or if something grew from the trip that 9 months later became a problem triggering this guest to act out against the apartment. Who knows. Please check out the other reviews and send an inquiry if you have any questions. The L&J apartment is really a great place to stay to experience NYC like a true New Yorker.

Location is great!

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay very much. The apartment was clean, there was a bed in each of the 2 bedrooms and 2 futons in the living room so each of the 4 of us could have our own bed. Beats sharing beds in a hotel! It's not very girly........... but we managed just fine! Would definitely consider the apartment for future visits.
