About Diane and Bud

Bud and Diane purchased this property as a weekend getaway in late 2010. They enjoy the site's overall peacefulness and beauty and the quaintness of Julian itself.

Diane and Bud purchased this studio in 2010

Why Diane and Bud chose San Diego County

Our Julian property was purchased to escape the heat of our desert home. It is close enough for us to commute to our jobs and while we will eventually make it our permanent residence after we retire, we wanted to share Julian with others and are able to do this, with a 550 square-foot studio cottage that sits behind the main residence.

What makes this studio unique

Julian, California, once the location of a booming gold rush, is now a picturesque alpine resort about an hour northeast of San Diego. It is an official California Historical Landmark, No. 412, and history buffs will find much to take an interest in, as will anyone with a taste for apple pie, which Julian is famous for. The relative nearness of various state, national and county parks is sure to please avid outdoorspeople, as is the scenic, fish-rich reservoir of Lake Cuyamacha (only about 8 miles to the southeast). Additionally, the area's high elevation treats residents to all four seasons, so there's never really a dull moment.

Julian, a quaint town known for their apple pie and cider, attracts many visitors year round. Many come not only for the pie but to walk the Main Street stopping at each of the shops along the way. Others come for a range of activities from hiking and biking to fishing and horseback riding. Special activities or events happen almost every weekend.

Absolutely a great place to visit!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was clean and comfortable as we expected. The Managers were always accessible and full of great information about the area. Be aware there are some stairs to climb to the cottage. If you don't mind a few stairs, this is the perfect place to visit!

Owner's Response: Yes, there are a few steps up to our cottage and once inside there is a step up to the area where the queen bed is located. The living room which has a full sofa sleeper, kitchenette and bathroom are all on the main living space. We put a lot into readying our cottage and property for our guests and we appreciate that they can see that. We too want our guests to feel at home during their stay. Although we have not been Julian residents all that long we try to be as helpful as we can. Thank you, for taking the time to post your review.

A slice of heaven....

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the cottage was fantastic! It was very comfortable, quiet and very private. The cottage is only a few minutes drive to the quaint little town of Julian. If you're in the mood for pies... Julian is your place :) We had everything we needed in the cottage and Diane and Bud were super welcoming. It's always appreciated when you rent a little home away from home when the owners provide a few breakfast items (coffee, cream, sugar, salt and pepper...) and various little snacks. We would definately recommend to stay there, as a matter of fact, we want to go back hopefully in the near future. We loved it there! Thank you!

Owner's Response: We are always happy to hear that our guests loved their stay in our cottage and that they would not only recommend it but would like to return. We hope you do and it will make us happy to welcome you back. Some of the items we provide have been staples since we started renting our cottage but the snacks are a new addition. Glad you mentioned and appreciated them!! We think our property is located in the perfect spot...about 1 mile to Julian's Main Street and all it offers but far enough away if you're looking for the serenity of the mountains. We appreciated your review and that you took the time to post one.

Excellent Stay

  • 5 of 5

Bud and Diane are great hosts. Cabin has everything you could need for a comfortable stay. Close to Julian, but away from it all peace and quiet. A forest right out your back door. What else could you want? Wish we could turn around and go back right now!

We try and provide all that you will need during your stay and we are always open to suggestions to better our property. Yes, we too feel our place provides closeness to Julian's Main Street and the serenity of being in the peacefulness of the mountains. Memorial Day weekend escape!

  • 5 of 5

My husdand, son (7 yrs old) and I really enjoyed this cute little cottage. It was roomy enough for us, but also very cozy. We were close to town and nature trails. The area was quiet and peaceful. My son enjoyed the property, running around playing with his soccer ball and trying to catch lizards! Bud and Diane were very friendly and accommodating. We would love to go back!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to post a review. We have grandchildren so we are happy to welcome guests with children and allow then to roam our property. We feel our cottage is in the perfect location allowing you to be close to Julian's Main Street but far enough away to enjoy the serenity of the mountains. We are always happy to meet our guests and be accommodating to their needs.

Clean. Well stocked.

  • 5 of 5

All hotels booked so went with this far better option! Would start with this next time. Clean, spacious, and well stocked.

Owner's Response: When the hotels in the area were booked we're so glad you didn't give up and looked on the VRBO/Homeaway website and found our property. Even though our cottage served the purpose of your hotel room we hope your experience in it was so much more. Small but spacious does describe it and lot of TLC goes into cleaning and preparing it for each guest. Thank you, for taking the time to post a review.
