Surrounded by black oak and pine trees and located in the private, peaceful neighborhood of Whispering Pines this homey cottage rests a mere 1.5 miles to the east of town, off Route 78. The cottage features a queen-sized bed, a sofa sleeper and a flat-screen TV, easily visible from both bed and sofa.

The restroom has all the usual amenities. There is a big bay window, perfect for standing by and taking in the scenery, and the kitchenette boasts of a microwave, a small stove and a refrigerator. Another nice feature is the gas fireplace, to sit beside during the cold winters.

The back patio makes a great site for enjoying your morning coffee, outside dining, or simply lounging. About Diane and Bud

Bud and Diane purchased this property as a weekend getaway in late 2010. They enjoy the site's overall peacefulness and beauty and the quaintness of Julian itself.

Diane and Bud purchased this studio in 2010

Why Diane and Bud chose Julian

Our Julian property was purchased to escape the heat of our desert home. It is close enough for us to commute to our jobs and while we will eventually make it our permanent residence after we retire, we wanted to share Julian with others and are able to do this, with a 550 square-foot studio cottage that sits behind the main residence.

What makes this studio unique

Julian, California, once the location of a booming gold rush, is now a picturesque alpine resort about an hour northeast of San Diego. It is an official California Historical Landmark, No. 412, and history buffs will find much to take an interest in, as will anyone with a taste for apple pie, which Julian is famous for. The relative nearness of various state, national and county parks is sure to please avid outdoorspeople, as is the scenic, fish-rich reservoir of Lake Cuyamacha (only about 8 miles to the southeast). Additionally, the area's high elevation treats residents to all four seasons, so there's never really a dull moment.

Owner's Response: We strive to make each and every guest feel at home and we want them to know we are here for them only if they need us. Since we also live on the property we try to be very considerate of our guest's privacy. Many hours of preparation go into preparing our cottage for each guest and it means a lot to us that this is noticed.

Wonderful property and owners!

  • 5 of 5

I went in May, and the minute I walked into this cottage, I was amazed. Very homey and floor plan was laid out well. Loved the nook with a big window where you could reflect and relax. Hot tub was great too! Outside on the back patio was relaxful hearing the birds chirping. Everything was clean and well stocked to enjoy a home away from home. Diane and Bud were gracious hosts! Looking forward to returning.

Dianne does an amazing job of taking care of all potential needs. She is very friendly and attentive to her guests. The cottage is well equipped and arranged for a nice getaway. The location is a perfect distance from downtown and their is access to different trails and breweries, depending on your likes. We will definitely be back.
