About Diane and Bud

Bud and Diane purchased this property as a weekend getaway in late 2010. They enjoy the site's overall peacefulness and beauty and the quaintness of Julian itself.

Diane and Bud purchased this studio in 2010

Why Diane and Bud chose San Diego County

Our Julian property was purchased to escape the heat of our desert home. It is close enough for us to commute to our jobs and while we will eventually make it our permanent residence after we retire, we wanted to share Julian with others and are able to do this, with a 550 square-foot studio cottage that sits behind the main residence.

What makes this studio unique

Julian, California, once the location of a booming gold rush, is now a picturesque alpine resort about an hour northeast of San Diego. It is an official California Historical Landmark, No. 412, and history buffs will find much to take an interest in, as will anyone with a taste for apple pie, which Julian is famous for. The relative nearness of various state, national and county parks is sure to please avid outdoorspeople, as is the scenic, fish-rich reservoir of Lake Cuyamacha (only about 8 miles to the southeast). Additionally, the area's high elevation treats residents to all four seasons, so there's never really a dull moment.

Memorial Day weekend escape!

  • 5 of 5

My husdand, son (7 yrs old) and I really enjoyed this cute little cottage. It was roomy enough for us, but also very cozy. We were close to town and nature trails. The area was quiet and peaceful. My son enjoyed the property, running around playing with his soccer ball and trying to catch lizards! Bud and Diane were very friendly and accommodating. We would love to go back!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to post a review. We have grandchildren so we are happy to welcome guests with children and allow then to roam our property. We feel our cottage is in the perfect location allowing you to be close to Julian's Main Street but far enough away to enjoy the serenity of the mountains. We are always happy to meet our guests and be accommodating to their needs.

Owner's Response: When the hotels in the area were booked we're so glad you didn't give up and looked on the VRBO/Homeaway website and found our property. Even though our cottage served the purpose of your hotel room we hope your experience in it was so much more. Small but spacious does describe it and lot of TLC goes into cleaning and preparing it for each guest. Thank you, for taking the time to post a review.

Comfortable stay with very nice hosts!

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed our stay. The place was small, but cozy. The hosts were very nice and were easy to communicate with. If we needed anything they were there to accommodate. We would stay there again!

Owner's Response: Even though our cottage is small we feel that we have accounted for all amenities and made use of the space. Cozy it is...especially if your stay allows for use of the fireplace located near the bed. We take our job as the property owners very serious and try very hard to be as accommodating as we can. It always makes us happy to hear a guest would stay with us again then we know we've done our job. We appreciate your review!!

We love this cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We returned for another stay at this sweet little cottage - this time for two weeks. It is a perfect fit for our hiking and natural history explorations in the desert and the mountains. Great place to return to each night. Cozy, clean, and comfortable. Diane and Bud could not have been more accommodating- we had plenty of privacy, and they were always there and helpful if we needed anything. Wonderful thoughtful people.

Owner's Response: It makes us happy to welcome back returning guests and it was nice having you stay with us again this year. Although our cottage is located in the mountains (where the weather is cooler) it's not to far a drive down to explore the desert. It is our pleasure to be as helpful as we can to our guests and we appreciate you taking the time to post your review.

Wonderful experience!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I rented the cottage for the weekend and had a wonderful time. Diane and Bud were great hosts and made sure the cottage was in perfect condition. The cottage is super relaxing and even has a cute little back patio that we were able to enjoy a bottle of vino one night. The bedroom area has a fireplace, which has a nice ambience. All the simple amenities are included, which is a nice touch. The cottage is VERY clean and everything has it's own perfect little place. We even saw local wildlife (deer and wild turkeys) around the property. I enjoy taking landscape and wildlife photos, so this place was a perfect setting for a perfect weekend in nature. I look forward to returning soon! Thank you Diane and Bud!

Owner's Response: It was our pleasure to welcome you to our cottage and we always look forward to returning guests. When we have guests that want to return it makes us very happy and we feel we have done our job. Many hours go into preparing the cottage for each of our guest's stay and that is why many of our reviews mention the cleanliness of it. It makes the time we spend on it worth it!! We're glad to hear that our cottage provided you the perfect place to stay during your visit to Julian and we hope you got many good nature and wildlife pictures. We always appreciate our guests that take the time out of their busy schedule to post a review. PS. Thank you so much for already recommending our cottage to a relative.

Julian, a quaint town known for their apple pie and cider, attracts many visitors year round. Many come not only for the pie but to walk the Main Street stopping at each of the shops along the way. Others come for a range of activities from hiking and biking to fishing and horseback riding. Special activities or events happen almost every weekend.
