About Trista Houle

We have been enjoying this cottage for quite a few years now and love to be there as much as we can in the summer. With our three children growing, we do not always have time to run back and forth to Marquette, where we live. So we have decided to share this wonderful place with YOU! We promise you will be pleased with the location, space and amenities. You will create memories to last a lifetime!

Trista Houle purchased this cottage in 2003

Why Trista Houle chose Gwinn

We are both from Marquette and have always enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing and watersports. Gwinn offers all of the necessities you need while you are visiting, including a local grocery store, bait shop and the wonderful UP North Lodge resturant. You can just 'show up' and get what you need while you are here.

What makes this cottage unique

We enjoy every aspect of the cottage from the beautiful sunrise, water fun and lake access on both sides of the cottage.

Perfect cottage on the lake.

  • 5 of 5

This cottage gave us our best vacation ever! We were close to the water, close to family, close to Marquette, right smack-dab in the middle of the UP. The cottage and its setting was absolutely perfect. My only regret is that we didn't book more nights there! Trista was very helpful, made it clear if we had any questions or needs to just call or text, and left us makings for s'mores. How much more perfect can you get?

We had a wonderful vacation!

  • 4 of 5

Overall the cabin was exactly what we were looking for! Quiet, clean, relaxing! The water was perfect and weather matched! Beds were comfortable and kitchen was fully stocked. Kids had a wondeful time learning to canoe and kayak and swam the day in the water. We had plenty of firewood to enjoy and relax by the fire at night. I was able to give my kids an old fashion vacation like I had growing up! We did find a few things that were advertised here that seemed to be missing. No bunk beds for the kids. Hot tub was not functioning, fishing poles were not in working order and DVD player did not connect to the TV. Overall the stay was nice! The price would have been perfect if the things that we found not included, were included! Thank you for letting us rent your cabin! You are lucky to have such a beautiful piece of land!

Owner's Response: Liz and family, Thank you so much for your review. I apologize if you thought we still had the hot tub. It was taken off VRBO last summer as we have had some issues with it. The bunk beds were recently switched out with a trundle bed because we sided the cabin and added brand new windows for a gorgeous view on both sides of the lake. The bunk beds would have covered that view. I do not advertise fishing poles but we left the shed open and left our personal poles there for you to use along with tackle. I am glad you had a great time. Thank you so much for staying and have a great rest of your summer. Kind Regards, Trista

Very Nice

  • 5 of 5

-The rental was very clean.

-Beds were in nice shape and the sheets were crispy clean.

-Excellent location. Not too far from Marquette.

-East Bass Lake is very nice.

-Plenty of cooking hardware plus a nice grill.

-Lot's of cool things to do without having to drive a lot.

-Owners texted us to see if we needed anything.

-Mom won the fishing contest with a total of 7 for the week.

-Would rent this place again.

-No biggie as we knew going in but, it would have been nice to have a washer and dryer.

-No camp log book. We love to read these and tell our vacation stories too.

Breath taking view

  • 5 of 5

I am from the area but moved away, it was so great to be back home. The rental reminded me off why I miss home so much. We brought some friends who have never been to the area and they were blown away. So peaceful and the canoe and paddle boat were def a bonus. Thank you Trista and family for giving me a chance to enjoy home for a short time. Will definitely come back.

Great Up North Cabin for the Entire Family

  • 5 of 5

This cabin had a little bit of everything. The cabin is on a peninsula with water in the front and back of the house. The views were beautiful! We saw many birds including ducks, eagles, and cranes. The kids loved the paddle boat and swing set. My husband loved that there was plenty of kids life vests and fishing poles. Our weather was somewhat rainy, so I enjoyed that there was so much to do for us and the kids in the cabin: cable, internet, kids toys, kids books, board games and cards. The cabin was clean and very accommodating with lots of comfy seating and beautiful views. Our and our brothers' family rented this cabin as an alternative to staying in a hotel in Marquette while we visited for our sister’s graduation from NMU. We had 10 of us all together and had everything you needed in the kitchen to cook and serve meals. The drive to Marquette was quick and easy. Our trip was only for a long weekend and I feel like there was so much more we could have enjoyed while we were there, I wish we had stayed for a week. I would definitely recommend this cabin for anyone looking for a up north vacation with the family or friends!

Owner's Response: Chelsey and family, Thank you so much for your awesome review. I am so glad you enjoyed yourselves despite the weather. Also, I really appreciate wonderful renters like you and your family. It is so nice to have people stay who take care of the cabin like it is their own. A million thanks! I look forward to having you and your family stay again in the future! If you get a bunch of people and need more room, we have a larger cabin - four doors down (VRBO#442707). Best wishes for an awesome summer. Trista

Adorable, Clean, and Wonderful Owner

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a long weekend with our two high school boys and two of their friends. Our daughter goes to NMU and we decided to try something different than the standard hotel. The cabin was comfortable and very clean. It is a little older but it fit our needs. We really loved the lake. It is very clean and clear and we even caught some fish. We spent a lot of time around the fire at night (record by one high school boy was 9 camper pies in one evening). The house is in a quiet neighborhood and was very peaceful. We really appreciated that Trista provided the kayaks and we put them to good use. I especially want to thank Trista for being so wonderful to deal with. We rent properties across the country at least 3-4 times a year and I would definitely rank Trista at the top of those we have dealt with.

I do try and make sure everyone has a great time and has everything they need while they are visiting the cabin. I can't tell you how appreciative we are of such wonderful guests like yourself. It makes it all worthwhile to know that others are enjoying our cabin just as we would. Thanks again! Trista
