Fantastic snow vacation! Recommended!
Group of 9 stayed comfortably in this fantastic ski in ski out house. Kitchen had everything we needed as we only ate in during our 4 night stay. Beds were comfortable, even the bunks! We made use if the hot tub and in unit laundry. No complaints at all. Ski out was more difficult for snowboarders and beginners, but not a big deal at all. We had a minor issue with the back door keypad and it was addressed to our satisfaction and very quickly. Overall 10/10!!
Great ski in ski out location. Nice house.
We loved this house. Only issue was it was advertised as having two King sized beds when it only had one. In natural retreats defense, they offered to move us but we had already unpacked our stuff and it would have been more of a hassle than it was worth and not as convenient of a ski in ski out place so we opted to stay. Also they didnt have ESPN so we couldnt watch ACC basketball and WiFi would use an upgrade. These are petty things but would’ve been nice. The house is great though and fireplace and hot tub and location are awesome. Set up of house and accommodation of natural retreats was great. I would rent again.
Awesome rental for ski vacation
This is my third time in Big Sky, and second time renting a home on the Moonlight side of the resort. This is my favorite so far! The pictures are pretty representative of what you get. We were a group of 7 (3 adults and 4 kids from 9 to 15 years old). Plenty of room for us. The ski access is incredible. This is located on the Bootlegger trail. From Powder River you ski down Powder River (Blue), through the tunnel, make your second right and stay straight. The house is immediately after the second bridge on the right. The trail is literally 2 feet from the back door. They groom practically to your doorstep. As long as you get decent speed coming through the tunnel, you make it almost all the way without polling at all (might have to poll 10-20 feet at the very end before you go down the decline of the second bridge). For ski out, you head back to your right and head down to Powder River again just above the Iron Horse lift. Ski out might require 20 feet of polling. One minor issue is once on Powder River you have to traverse a bit along the boundary rope to the groomed part of the trail. I had to poll a few feet and kids had a lot of trouble the first day. I dont blame the house for this... I've seen videos where it's groomed. Not sure why it wasn't... but its not a big deal. Once at Iron Horse you can take that up and ski down to the Big Sky base or stay on the Moonlight side. Alternatively, instead of skiing the Big Sky side you can take Alpine Meadows (before Powder River) down to the Moonlight base which has the Darringer lift and more of a beginner area (or take Six Shooter back up-- which we avoid because it's cold). Anyway, ski access is awesome. Only place better might be The Summit-- but thats expensive and you wont have the space. I took some 360 degree video of the Ski In access... I haven't edited or posted it on YouTube yet, but will in a week or two. Search You Tube for 1 Shadow Ridge.Back to the house itself... place was clean and ready for our arrival. I bought (or shipped ahead of time) some spices and kitchen stuff. Kitchen was already well equipped. Had various spices, pots, pans, etc. Electric mixer looked like it was from the 60's and didn't work well unless you messed with the cord. Beds were comfortable. They had hotel soap and shampoo-- so bring your own if you are staying for more than a few days. Hot tub is large and nice. Grill was good, they had a spare propane ...
First of all, let me say the house is cute and very well placed for a ski in/ski out. Unfortunately, if falls extremely short of "luxury rental". We have been renting homes in Big Sky for over 15 years and this is by far our least favorite. We rented in Moonlight Basin for the amenities - and this rental house does not come with any access to the club what so ever as the owners are not members - we couldn't even eat at the club or use the workout room which my military son really needed. The internet is satellite based - problem with any snow fall. Surfing the web was extremely slow and streaming movies is absolutely out of the question - problem with 4 teenagers. We brought pre-downloaded moves along with us to watch in the evening, however all of the tv's in the house are circa 1990's and didn't have ports to plug into. They did however have VHS built into them. So we huddled around a laptop at the kitchen table to watch our pre-loaded movies. The sports channel lineup wasn't part of the television package so we missed all the Bowl games. Mattresses are reminiscent of your college dorm. We woke up every morning sore from sleeping - not skiing. And ski room - there isn't one. A tight hallway outside the master bedroom served as storage which was tight for a family of 6 and there weren't boot dryers. Again - ski valet at the resort would have been great. Half the lights were out in the kitchen which made for really dark cooking. The Management Company was very responsive to our requests and they were very kind and sympathetic, but their hands were tied. They even came up to the house and helped dig us out of the snow before we left. Love skiing Big Sky and we will continue to come back every year - but defiantly not this rental.
Hi Karyn, I am glad to hear that overall you enjoyed your ski vacation to Big Sky, the location and ski access of the home, and the attentiveness of our staff. I am saddened that you did not feel that the home was up to your standards and was lacking some of the amenities you were seeking for your vacation. We have reached out to the homeowner to address the items that you mentioned. Many homes in our rental portfolio do offer access to the private Moonlight Club, including the Moonlight Lodge which recently went fully private. We would love to have the opportunity to work directly with you, rather than booking online, to handpick the perfect home for your next vacation in Big Sky.
This house has it all!
Great location, easy ski out- ski in a bit trickier. Get directions before you leave.
House has everything you need. A short walk on ski trail to Moonlight lodge.
The only complaint is that the description stated that the Moonlight Lodge pool and workout facilities were available for a fee. When we inquired with the front desk they informed us that this home did not have the club membership. Our son could not ski due to a recent surgery and was planning on working-out at the club. Luckily the staff at Moonlight are kind and understanding and allowed us to purchase a week pass. I would recommend calling natural retreats to make sure you will have use of the Moonlight club.
We appreciate you taking the time to give us some feedback! We apologize for the misunderstanding regarding the Moonlight club. This home once had access but it does not any longer. We are happy that the rest of the trip went well and you found the home stocked and close to the slopes!
