About Hartt Goldman
My name is Hartt and I grew up at the Beach House near the town of Amherstburg. I have since lived in a number of places throughout Ontario, California, Montreal, BC but I come back every year with my wife, Barbara, and our kids to spend some time at this special spot where Lake Erie meets the Detroit River. Every season offers an up close view of nature along the Great Lakes. From the wind-whipped sand bars and migrations in autumn, to the ice-castles of winter, or the budding spring in the adjacent wetlands and of course the incredible summer sunsets. It is an inspirational spot that is close to Amherstburg’s historical small town charm and amenities but a world away from our busy, modern lives.
Hartt Goldman purchased this House in 2010
Why Hartt Goldman chose Amherstburg
This house has been in my family since the 60s. Now we enjoy it as a cottage and a base to reconnect with family and friends in Southern Ontario. It is wonderful to be able to frolic with my kids in the water, play games on the large yard, enjoy beach fires, watch fireflies etc etc just like when I was youngster. The setting is also ideal for creative pursuits and has been used by songwriters (myself included), artists and others as a creative retreat.
What makes this House unique
The beach and the lake are right outside your door. The sights and sounds of lakeside life really set the Beach house apart. The spacious house and property can comfortably accommodate large groups with both recreation and relaxation in mind. It's close to quaint, historic Amherstburg, Essex county's "Wine Route", and it's a great launching point for activities in Windsor or Detroit areas. The setting itself is an incredible spot to see birds (Herons, Eagles, and many more), watch lake freighters navigate into or out of the Detroit river, and reconnect with nature.

Spacious: great for 3 couples or large family.
We were three couples staying for the weekend and had a fabulous time. The house is equipped with lots of kid and adult games, puzzles; all which we enjoyed while spending time together in the beautiful surroundings of Lake Erie.
We recently stayed at the "beach house" for a ball tournament hosted in Amherstburg. All though we spent 1/2 our time at the diamonds, the cottage provided a wonderful place to unwind. The water is high, but all of the kids managed to make due and played in the water several times. The deck is big and accommodating, the view is amazing, big boats, little boats. The only flaw we encountered which is purely mother nature's way of saying she still runs the joint, where the little biting bugs. If in the tropics they would call them " NO SEE UMS". Thanks Hart, we will be contacting you again for sure .
Great family time!
We had 6 adults and 3 kids (4,3,&2 yrs) and there was plenty of room for all. There was a closet full of games and toys. Nice quiet neighborhood on deadend street. We did have a run-in with the "nosey" neighbor on the left. Since there was no beach at this house due to high lake levels, we used the little bit of beach to the left (right along the fence line) to get in and out of the water but still swam in front of our house. The "nosy" neighbor told us that she owned two feet past the fence post so we couldn't do that. So when we took a walk towards the deadend, we took the trail there and just over the bridge and to the right, was a sandy drive towards the beach. There we found a private beach that the kids could swim, find seashells, ride the waves, and play in the sand. We visited the fort in Amherstburg (interesting), took the kids to the playground and splash pad, and ice cream parlor. My daughters and I visited some wineries one afternoon and the guys went to a brewery another afternoon. Enjoyed watching the sailboats and freighters go by and the sunsets are beautiful. We took the kids to Colasanti Farms in Kingsville one day and visited the Canadian Transportation Museum another. Had breakfast at the museum and it was very good. Would definitely come back and also recommend this place to friends.
Enjoyable family visit!
Our family of nine adults stayed at the beach house for a week long, relaxing vacation. It was just that- a comfortable, well worn beach house. It was equipped with almost everything you need for entertaining a group at home- puzzles, games, wifi, etc. There was plenty of room for everyone and we were able to cook many meals together in the large kitchen or on the grill. One of the beds was very uncomfortable and there was no beach as shown in the pictures, so no beach fires, kayaking or canoeing. Still, there was plenty to do in the area and we enjoyed sitting on the deck, playing yard games, and watching the freighters go by. All in all a pleasant vacation for our group. We had a great visit to Amherstburg and the beach house!

Comfortable, no beach was disappointing
Rented this property for a group of 12. I knew from the pictures to expect it to be an older home. What I didn’t expect was that the pictures of the outside beach area to be very outdated/misleading. At one time there must have been a beach where you could sit with chairs and play and even have a bonfire, according to the pics on the listing. But when we visited there was virtually no sand left, and what was there was overrun with weeds and ant hills. Sitting on the deck each morning and evening to enjoy listening/watching the water was very nice. It was just disappointing we could not get in the water or play in the sand like we thought we’d be able to. Renters should be aware of this. Inside was what we expected, although none of the bathroom doors closed properly for privacy which could be easily fixed I believe. The owner was very nice to work with, allowed us some flexibility with the check in and out times since we had a wedding rehearsal to get too. There was space in the living room and 2 of the bedrooms for air mattresses and that helped with sleeping arrangements. All in all we had a great weekend with friends.
Hi Hope – glad to hear your weekend was great overall. Luckily we had the flexibility to accommodate your large group with early check in and check out since we didn’t have groups coming in directly before or after yours. The lake levels do change from year to year and they are at historic highs this year. The lack of beach is disappointing for everyone but there is little that we can do about this force of nature. Point taken about updating pictures though and we will do that when we are there in August. I’ve had a pest control expert out since your visit and he assures me that there is not an ant hill on the property though there are ants around. The ‘bluff’ that is by the breakwall is what is left over from the waves crashing over the wall during storms and eroding the sand away. Thanks again for staying with us.
