Ben and Joan Baxter
About Ben and Joan Baxter
Joan and Ben Baxter were married on a schooner in Bar Harbor in 1988. Joan has been a nurse at MDI hospital since 1981 and Ben worked with the University Extension office in the area for five years before launching his own marine inventions company. Ben was part of the College of the Atlantic team that first located the feeding grounds for whales in this region. Go ahead, ask him a marine mammals question. As Ben and Joan approach retirement, with children all launched now, this large home, much improved and added to, is larger than they need. This becomes their second Bar Harbor rental home. Experienced and very successful with rentals for a decade, they really know how to make you comfortable. Ask them anything about MDI. You are in good hands.
Ben and Joan Baxter purchased this House in 1998

Great location, spacious and beautiful accommodations
Outstanding home for a family visit to Bar Harbor
Our family of six stayed in this home during our recent visit to Bar Harbor. I have to say, the online photos did not do this property justice. It is much better in person than in the photos. This is a big home, very comfortable and nicely furnished. I wish we had been able to stay a month to read all the books on the shelves!! The big open front room with the kitchen was perfect for us - a great gathering place and a place to make meals. The master bedroom was so big it was like it's own house! At least 2 other people could have fit if you are looking for a bigger group. You can easily walk to town from this home and all the wonderful attractions of Acadia are a short drive away. One amenity we enjoyed every night was the fire pit in the backyard - great for sitting around, talking, roasting marshmallows, etc. The owner, Ben, was great to work with. We HIGHLY recommend this property to anyone with a family visiting Bar Harbor!!!
We loved our stay at this property. We were a group of six and this house had plenty of space for a of us. The house was conveniently located close to the park and town. Walking distance to great restaurants and shops. The owners were very helpful and Ben made sure we had everything we needed. House was equipped with allot of essentials(ie:bug spray, some cooking essentials, firewood for the pit, games and maps for the park ect) We highly recommend this house and would stay here again if we return to Bar Harbor.
Nice, comfortable stay in a good location.
The house was very nice and clean and comfortable and in a good location. Ben was knowledgeable and kind enough to meet us at the house to answer all our questions. It was a great home base for after all of our adventures. I would not hesitate to stay again. Oh, and the beds were all very comfortable!
This is a wonderful property in a great location. House was as described. The house feels cozy but not cramped. The beds and linens were fabulous. We could not have asked for a better rental.
