About the property

Relax and unwind! Fantastic ocean views, beaches, serenity and all the amenities

NEW FOR 2017 - BEACH PARKING PASS INCLUDED!

Relax, unwind and enjoy fantastic ocean views, a short walk to the beach, and peace and serenity at this rustic cottage with all the amenities!

If these Vermont pine walls could talk, they’d tell endless stories of the thousands of guests who have found peace and quiet above the gentle waves of Loblolly Cove since the 1950s. That’s when #13 (then known as Cottage #4) and the other quaint lodgings around you were built by entrepreneurial Vermont couple Wetzel and Gladys Gale and family to expand the capacity of the Rocky Shores Inn. While the cottages are now seasonal condos and the Main House is a private dwelling, the spirit of Rocky Shores lives on with each new visitor--and through the current owner of #13, Grandpa and Grammy Gale’s granddaughter!

The Cottage by the Sea includes the best of all worlds: an unsophisticated escape from the hustle and bustle of the workaday world, without sacrificing modern features and connectivity. Sip a cold beverage as you gaze out at the twin lighthouses of Thacher Island from the patio, then sling one of the provided beach chairs over your shoulder for a jaunt to the pebbled expanse and bobbing buoys of Loblolly Cove. Later, a short drive (or intermediate stroll) will bring you to the shops and artisans of Rockport's famed Bearskin Neck, home of both a vibrant art colony and an aptly-named little red fish shack--bring your camera and add your own interpretation of "Motif #1" to your vacation album!

Later, prepare a fresh dish of local fish, lobster or shellfish in the cottage kitchen --equipped with fridge, freezer, cooktop, oven, microwave, toaster and both Keurig and drip coffee makers--or fire up the grill out back and dine al fresco. If the weather doesn't cooperate, you can always enjoy a movie from our "Films of Cape Ann" DVD collection or catch the latest Red Sox game from the comfort of the couch under the skylights of the high-ceilinged living room. And, should the real world intrude, high-speed internet and wi-fi mean you can get to work without getting too far from play.

Two cozy bedrooms--one featuring a queen bed, and the other containing two twin beds--are paneled in original unfinished Vermont pine, and the cleverly-designed closets blend right into the walls. Linens and towels are included in your stay, and the closets contain both snuggly comforters for those ocean-cooled nights, and oscillating tower fans (including remote controls and sleep timers) when the days get a little toasty. The bathroom includes a tub with a shower attachment for rinsing away the salt water apres-beach.

If your preference is for quiet over chaos, lone gulls instead of swarming sidewalks, and ocean breezes that let you remember how it feels to just breathe, the Cottage by the Sea at Rocky Shores may be just the destination you're looking for. Make Rocky Shores a part of your vacation story!

About Mark and Kara Dalius

The B&B lifestyle and vacation rentals are in Kara's blood...and Mark owns more tools than your average episode of This Old House. We love Cape Ann, and want others to have a chance to experience the best that this classic vacation destination has to offer!

Mark and Kara Dalius purchased this cottage in 2016

Why Mark and Kara Dalius chose Rockport

Kara's grandparents literally built our cottage! When it came back on the market, it was a no-brainer...we joke that we're "taking back Rocky Shores one cottage at a time!" And, Kara's cousin became our neighbor right after we bought #13, so if you're looking to reserve multiple cottages for a larger family gathering, we can accommodate!

What makes this cottage unique

More than just a vacation rental, the oceanview cottage is a piece of Americana that is increasingly difficult to find, particularly in Massachusetts. Private, but not isolated, this is a chance to experience a getaway experience that simply doesn't compare to the assembly-line, cookie-cutter routine of the contemporary resort or hotel. And, it's more comfortable, unique, manageable (and affordable) than renting a massive, sterile mansion. As working professionals, we both understand that being completely disconnected is often impossible, so we offer everything you would need to stay in contact with whatever real-world responsibilities cannot be deferred. The views and location speak for themselves...while we enjoy having guests, we stay at Rocky Shores as frequently as we are able, and we try our best to make sure that anything and everything that could make our own stays more comfortable is also available for you. We treat you as our guests in our home, and there is nothing more important to us than your comfort, enjoyment, and, hopefully, your return visit!

Little Piece of Heven

  • 5 of 5

Every thing is exactly as described in the listing! My children studied the pictures for a week before our departure. My daughter could not wait to see the whale pillow on the bed in the adult room and sure enough it was right their as she was hoping it would be. Kara and Mark are absolutely lovely! They greeted us when we arrived to tell us every thing we needed to know and their is a handy map on the refrigerator to help you get your bearings. Their was a delightful little hand written note on the table welcoming us and adorable stuffed lobsters for the children and they love them. A small bowl of delicious candy local salt water taffy on the table you can definitely tell that either Kara, Mark or both definitely have a background in Hospitality because every thing you can think of that you may need is available to you. We brought or bikes and we were really happy we did their are a few hill but most of the ridding was flat the views are breathtaking! One thing I did forget to bring on our trip and I want to share so you don't is your binoculars. We liked to bike to pebbly beach and one day their was a seal that hung our with us most of the day the children would be just tickled it they could have seen him, her, it a little closer. We did take advantage of some trips out of Gloucester we took a whale watching trip with the 7 seas whale watch and it was fabulous. And the Boys took a fishing trip the the Yankee fleet and they had a very successful trip. On a rainy afternoon we went to see a movie at the Gloucester cinema super cute much smaller than a traditional cinema we are used to but the seats are super comfortable and the popcorn delicious. In a nut shell we had an amazing trip and the Cottage is everything we expected it to be. Thanks Kara and Mark we cant wait to come back to Rockport Truly a magical Place! True New England Cottage

My husband and I took our 12 yr old daughter and her friend. We saw whales, sat on the beach, took a fireworks cruise, and made lots of good memories. We will be back! Hosts were great!

Lovely cottage with scenic views

  • 5 of 5

We loved spending a weekend in the cottage - it's beautifully decorated and Mark and Kara have thought of EVERYTHING a guest might need while there, down to water bottles in the fridge and a toy for our 2 year old daughter that is now her new favorite; "Baby Lobster" hasn't left her side since we arrived (and we've been home a few days!). You can see one of the lighthouses while having coffee or eating at the kitchen table, and the view a few yards out the door is stunning. We loved walking down to Loblolly Cove every evening and looking for shells, eating outside and watching the tower lights brighten, going into Rockport and Gloucester, and spending the day at the sandy beaches nearby. We also loved speaking with Trish and learning about what it was like growing up right there in that beautiful spot - love that the cottage is part of your family history. Thank you for sharing it with us!

Perfect Beach Cottage

  • 5 of 5

A lovely beach cottage in enchanting Rockport. The setting and view are perfect. The decor and use of space in this little cottage amazing. We found everything we could possibly need here, including bbq, outdoor seating, beach chairs, parking pass for the beach, all appliances. The owners are very accommodating and kind. We were greeted with flowers and taffy on the table, water in the fridge, and coffee. Couldn't ask for a better vacation home.
