Well kept cabin in cute little town

  • 5 of 5

We just came back from 3 days here and really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was clean and everything worked as anticipated. The only thing I would make others aware of is that this is an hour drive from the EDGE of Yosemite and 2+ from the big sites like Half Dome. We were looking for something that we could use to make day trips into the park but only did that 1 day since it was about 5 hours round trip driving. When making the reservation I search for locations near Yosemite and this came up. Totally my fault for not checking how far away it is but just wanted to make sure others didn't make my mistake. We did explore a lot of Stanislaus NF and there are lots of trails around the cabin but it didn't really work to explore Yosemite which is what we wanted. But again, totally my mistake. The cabin was absolutely lovely!

Amazing accommodations

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was just being at home. Very clean and well kept. Perfect location with shopping and stores very close. The daily rate was better than any other cabins I have rented in the past. Made for a wonderful weekend, my family loved it. My daughter got to play video games and watch Netflix upstairs while the wife and I enjoyed some peaceful time downstairs watching movies. By far the best price and cabin I've found over the years.

Comfortable accommodations

  • 5 of 5

A comfy cabin for my party of five. Had everything we needed to enjoy a few days in the mountains. It's located in a nice area so we could take our morning strolls and about a 15 min drive to Pinecrest Lake. We enjoyed the outside deck in the evenings while we BBQ'd. We did visit when the weather was warmer than usual and there is no AC which I expected but we just opened the windows at night to let the cool breeze in and shut them during the day, the fans kept the circulation going ;) It exceeded my expectations for the price, planning another trip in the fall. Thanks Dan!!

Quaint and clean! A great place to hang out on the deck and close to restaurants and lakes.

Everything you need for a getaway. The owners are very accommodating. I've stayed here many times because of the location, and it's pet friendly!

Not what we hoped for :(

  • 3 of 5

Communication was good, Dan is very kind. The cabin is very small and VERY hot in the summer. We used fans in every room, which helped a little but it was just too hot. Plus the noise from the fans made it difficult to sleep and to basically do anything else. We did put the windows open, but the screen doors have openings at the bottoms, and one of the main windows has a broken open screen- all of which let many bugs in which flew around at night. When we first showed up we immediately noticed dog droppings all over the gravel, which I did let Dan know about and he said he would clean up the day we left. This was not that big of a deal but it was not a welcome sight. I think the other big issue is if you book with more than two people, you have to realize this cabin has ONE full size bath so you are waiting in line for the shower/tub, and you are walking through the master bedroom to use it. This was uncomfortable. The water faucet in the master bath will only turn on to cold, if you move it to the left for hot, no water will come out. I did appreciate a washer/dryer, however it was way too hot to run the dryer in the cabin so we tried to air dry the clothes we washed (bring your own soap). I would also say the beds are old, squeaky, and not comfortable. My family described this cabin as "kind of like when you go to camp and stay in a YMCA cabin." Overall my impression of the cabin is one that a family owns and utilizes twice a year or so, so nothing really needs to be nice or updated since it's just a "family cabin." In that case you wouldn't need A/C or a working faucet or a really clean cabin, but this cabin is being rented out and is a (maybe?) money maker for the owners, which in that case I would expect a few updates. Amazon sells stand up A/Cs for 300.00. Also, things like the fireplace not being cleaned out when it's clearly been awhile since used. We paid quite a bit for three nights here and this was probably the worst rental we have had. I gave it three stars because Dan was nice via email, but this is an extremely rustic cabin in terms of what you can usually get for that price via airbnb and homeaway. Yes, the local motels/hotels also rent for about the same per night, but there are other rentals in Twain Harte and Sonora for less that are much nicer (we stayed in one for the first leg of our trip). Again, Dan is nice and communication was good but this cabin is overpriced for what you get, and for how hot it is in the summer time.

Owner's Response: I'm sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your stay, but keep in mind this has been an exceptionally hot summer. We've rented the cabin for more than five years and haven't had any complaints about the heat until this year, although, we are looking into getting an AC unit. To address the dog droppings, this was in an area off the main driveway that a third vehicle can park in. I can assure there were no droppings there when the cabin was cleaned prior to your arrival. Unfortunately, people need to be more responsible for cleaning up after their dogs when walking them. We intentionally leave an inch of ashes in the wood burning stove to aid in starting a fire. The stove has a sealed door that eliminates any dust or odor from the ashes. I'm not sure why this was an issue. We take pride in ensuring the cabin is very clean and comfortable for our guests. This is a cabin, not a house, but I wouldn't consider it a rustic cabin at all. I'm not sure of the YMCA cabins you have stayed in, but to compare our cabin to one is rather insulting. Two of the three mattresses are less than 5 years old and the third is just over five years. The listing clearly states this is a two bedroom with ONE FULL BATH AND ONE HALF BATH. I'm not aware of any YMCA cabins well furnished with a full kitchen, washer/dryer, cable TV with HBO, high speed internet and a Play Station. Based on other rentals in the area, this cabin is very well priced at $150 per night.

We Loved It!

  • 4 of 5

Rustic and very clean cabin. Would go back again. The only reason for not giving it five stars is because it's nestled amongst many other cabins and Homes. It was quiet during our stay but that was during the week and not on a holiday weekend which in my experience can become pretty noisy for this old couple
