About Laura Bradbury
We are a French - Canadian couple who met and fell in love in Burgundy. I am from Victoria, BC, Canada and came to Beaune on a Rotary exchange when I was 18. During that year I met and fell madly in love with Franck, a native Burgundian from the village, where La Maison des Chaumes is located. That was 25 years ago and now we have three lovely Franco-Canadian daughters, four vacation rentals in and around Beaune, and a very trans-atlantic lifestyle! Our rentals and free activity-planning service allow you to live in Burgundy like a local. We love helping our guests discover authentic France. I wrote a bestselling memoir entitled 'My Grape Escape' about how we purchased and renovated our first vacation rental in Burgundy.

Perfect family house
The house was very clean and perfect for our family getaway. We loved the area and appreciated all the helpful hints from Laura and Franck in regards to places to eat, activities, etc. we would definitely recommend staying here and hope we can make it back again someday!
Truly impeccable. The house is very welcoming in a very quiet and beautiful area, and extremely clean. A nice bottle of wine welcomed us and we were able to cook many meals in a kitchen equipped for all occasions.
A great experience indeed!
Very nice home in a small village!
We loved our stay at Maison des Chaumes. The home is spotless and has all of the mod cons. The owners were very responsive and had everything ready including a bottle of wine! It is a beautiful area to explore.
Perfect! Wonderful house and lovely village.
My husband, 2 children (aged 8 and 5) and I spent a magical Christmas at La Maison des Chaumes and we loved it! We arrived to a warm and immaculate house with a bottle of local wine waiting for us. The children were delighted with the movies and games (in English and French) and the den with TV was a perfect place for them to play! The kitchen is excellent - I love the gorgeous sink - with all appliances new and top of the line. The laundry room downstairs was also in perfect working order and much needed after our walks in the surrounding countryside, hilltops, vineyards and forest. Some of my favourite things were the fresh French cotton duvets and covers, very comfortable beds, spacious and relaxing bathroom, fabulous lighting, attention to detail, floods of natural light through the floor to ceiling windows, and wooden window shutters to keep it dark at night....the air was so clean and fresh and the surroundings so quiet - we all slept so well! The house comes with very informative binders of information on local activities, restaurants, cultural points of interest, history, etc. Although we were there in winter, I can imagine the outdoor space - the garden and patio - must host the most wonderful dinners and lunches! The surrounding villages are utterly gorgeous and the vineyards stretching from the doorway of the house are incredible. Stunning walks can be taken from the door of La Maison.
I highly recommend this house for its charming comfort, excellent amenities, and location nestled in rolling vineyards and within short drives to vineyards, chateaux and the local centres of Beaune and Nuit St. George. Superb!
Ideal spot for Burgundy vacation!
La Maison de Chaumes is a lovely home that will welcome you in every respect. It's in a quiet small town very close to both Beaune and Nuits St George for more shopping and restaurants. It is surrounded by lovely vineyards and tasting opportunities. Wine will be the most common reason to spend time in this area but my husband was on his bike most days exploring the many small roads and canal banks in the area. We found the people friendly and welcoming. And the home is the perfect place to come home to at the end of a well-spent day.
Dream stay in Burgundy
Our stay at La Maison des Chaumes was more than ideal. The house was very private and perfectly located in a quiet village surrounded by picturesque vineyards, only a short drive away from many other beautiful towns and cities. There was ample space for our family of four, with two generous bedrooms and a family room along with a large and fully- stocked kitchen, comfortable living room/dining room, and nicely-appointed bathroom. Light and fresh air poured in from all of the windows and doors. Spending time both inside the house and on the wrap-around patio and lawn outside, we found ourselves immediately at home and at peace.
The description on the website was extremely accurate. The property is very clean and well taken care of and there is plenty of information (binders) available about the house and things to do in the area. The owner was readily available to answer questions as they arose and gave us a number of additional suggestions for things we were particularly interested in.
One thing we really enjoyed in the house was the large and varied collection of books and magazines for both adults and children (cookbooks, travel guides, story books, novels and more). It’s the kind of thing you don’t lug around on a holiday, but is such a pleasure to find. It was also nice to have a washer and dryer to use in the basement.
We really enjoyed visiting the local markets (loved Dijon) and all of the bakeries (daily, sometimes twice) and driving through the back country roads to explore the old stone towns and to visit the chateaux and some prominent sites (Abbaye de Fontenay). We made a day-trip to Paris via the TGV train and discovered that was do-able from this distance too.
We found the food and wine in Burgundy abundant and all delicious, the people friendly and helpful, and the costs reasonable (we cooked and ate much of the time at home).
We would definitely recommend this vacation rental to our friends and family and would love to plan a longer stay the next time we come to France!
La Maison des Chaumes is nestled just where you want to be in Burgundy - in a quiet, relaxed wine making village located between the medieval town of Beaune (ten minutes away) and Dijon (half an hour North). You will find yourself at the doorstep of Burgundy's most picturesque and famous wine making villages such as Pommard, Volnay, Gevrey-Chambertin, Aloxe-Corton, etc. that are now collectively as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Burgundy itself is very central. Many of our guests make day trips to Paris using the TGV which leaves from both Beaune and Dijon and reached the Gare de Lyon in Paris in less than two hours. Geneva is only two hours East, Italy and Spain a day's drive, and Provence and the Cote d'Azur only three to four hours South.
Winetasting, biking, walking, eating, and chateaux visits, as well as shopping possibilities abound. No matter how long you stay you will not be able to experience all this stunning and fascinating region has to offer.
