About Torsten Rufer
I first visited Guanajuato in 1999 to take a 3 week language course. The city's charm drew me in completely. I went back for another, longer stay the same year and ended up moving to Guanajuato in 2001. I worked at the Escuela Mexicana language school until 2008, helping many fellow travelers to learn Spanish, discover Guanajuato and others areas in Mexico. I moved away in 2008 but really wanted a long lasting connection to the city. In 2010 the opportunity to buy this property opened up. Besides offering a temporary home for many travelers it has also given me a "reason" to visit the city a couple of times a year.

Why Torsten Rufer chose Zona Centro
Colibri I is a completely new construction combining Mexican charm with modern amenities and environmentally friendly details (cistern to store rain water, solar water heater). The apartment is spacious and located just minutes from the Jardin de la Union. Gerardo, the manager, lives just 2 minutes away and takes great care of the property and any needs our guests have.

Wonderful Authentic Guanajuato Home
My girlfriend and I really enjoyed staying here. It has so much room for more than 2 people, but we were very comfortable there. We really appreciated the decorating and attention to detail. The host is very easy to communicate with and the views are great.
Beautiful lodging with an incredible view.
Going up and down along the calljon (alley) was a bit much for my arthritic knees, but the house was so lovely, it was worth it. Plus the view! Spectacular. Communication with the owner was excellent. Though the house manager Gerardo doesn't speak English, everything worked out well, and he was always where he needed to be, like being there to haul our luggage. Wi-Fi was excellent. It's a wonderful place, and I would stay there again.
Amazing home in Gto.
Fantastic stay at this beautiful 2 bedroom home located in the hills of Guanajuato. Massive loft-like living room has some amazing views over this enchanting city. The large kitchen was a joy to use. Bedrooms are spacious, comfortable and well appointed. Two separate terraces [one on the rooftop] provide excellent space for relaxing and taking in the views.
The hike up to the house from town can be a bit if you aren't in reasonable shape. Taking a taxi to the road above the house and walking down eliminated that obstacle.
The owner is fast and friendly with any and all communication. The property manager is very helpful but has limited English. Fantastic stay all around!
Beautiful home with Amazing views of the city
This is a "wow" type of home. It has amazing views of the city (I guess many properties do since they are in the hills), but this home is open, tastefully decorated and clean. It was easy to get down to reach the downtown area but a bit difficult to make it back walking. However, you can take a taxi and walk down to the home. I would definitely stay in this lovely place again. Manager was super nice.
As advertised, wonderful stay!
This was one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed! Well furnished, clean, and gorgeous. It is clear that this is a well-maintained and cared for property. Communication with Torsten was easy and reliable. However, the property manager does not speak English, so having conversational Spanish skills is a plus. This is the case for much of the city as well--it is not a tourist town, so English will not be spoken much, if at all. Additionally, a previous reviewer noted the stairs required to get to the property. This is accurate and no joke. However, needing physical mobility and the ability to manage stairs applies to much of Guanajuato as a whole. I definitely got my exercise getting to the property at the end of each day, but it helped balance all of the delicious food I ate! Lastly, a safety lockbox for securing passports and other valuables would be a great addition, as would replacing the well-loved (and a little flat/lumpy) king-size pillows on the bed. These are minuscule suggestions, and I would absolutely be thrilled to stay here again! Thank you!
Great house, attention was paid to details as this was a very nice home. Be prepared for many steps to and from the house, but once you are there it's her serene.
