You need more than a getaway. You need a place to refresh your soul. A place conducive not only to rest and relaxation but an environment that tempts your sense of adventure and enables you to participate in all that is good and exciting about Costa Rica. Toucan's Perch is nestled 4000 feet above sea level with views of the Pacific and the entire Central Valley. For a unique experience, get up at 5:30 a.m. and watch your own volcano (Volcan Turrialba) smoldering into the skyline as the sunrise pierces through onto your perch above the universe. Toucans are your only visitors as they call to one another while you enjoy the calm of a hammock and possibly a cup of the world’s finest coffee to keep you company. The temperate climate at this elevation never exceeds 85 F and only stoops to 65 F in the middle of the night. All the while you enjoy clean air and fresh water from the neighboring mountain spring; pure and simple. Just an hour West and you’re on the beach

The quest for tranquility is one we all strive for. Having devoted 25 years running my own business and yet another 10 working for a Fortune 500 company, I opted for early retirement to continue my search. My previous life afforded me the opportunity to travel the world; China, Russia, the Baltic, Europe, Africa, South Africa, Australia, Greece and Portugal to name a few. Each time I visited a foreign country I tried to picture myself retiring in its midst with its specific climate, traditions and way of life. Portugal was on the verge of getting the nod until I discovered healthcare and taxes on foreigners were not conducive to my parameters I had established for myself. My first visit to Costa Rica was perpetrated by a business associate who indicated his parents had retired here several years prior. He arranged for my visit to see them and the rest is history. It is here that I find the tranquility that I’ve never lost nor ever will. It is here that I found a mountaintop that can now be shared for others to enjoy the views of the Pacific, and the Central Valley. It is here at Cima Estelar (Stellar Heights) that one can find a glimpse into the secrecy of nature; Toucans, parrots, sloths, iguana, giant woodpeckers and flora comparable to the Garden of Eden.

Our recent two week stay at The Outpost exceeded all of our expectations. We came to Costa Rica to unwind while exploring a new country for us. Our accommodations were impeccably clean and the views are truly incomparable. Our evening ritual of watching the sun sink into the Pacific Ocean is just one of the many highlights of our visit. We came to eliminate the stress of our jobs and were rewarded with quiet and an occasional visit by Thor and Cyclops the two great dogs on the property that we wanted to bring home with us. Our hosts, Alan and Skeeter, provided us with easy and affordable transportation and kept us away from the hesitancy associated with driving in a foreign country. We took the bus to a number of locations as well as it passes right in front of the property. We left 20 degree weather to enjoy the perfect climate of 75 degree Fahrenheit temps. Oh to be back in flip flops and shorts! Thank you again for a memorable stay. We will return.
My wife and i arrived in CR for our honeymoon in SJO at 5:30a.m. Skeeter met us at the airport and took care of us every step of the way. We immediately felt cared for and safe with his guidance. I was so glad he was driving because traffic and the drivers are nuts and their are no signs once you leave the city.
He took us to a few sites and then we had a fantastic Tico breakfast. The food in CR is amazing. don't listen to anyone who says otherwise. Upon arriving at the house, we were amazed at how beautiful the property and the house was. Breathtaking views and everything was extremely clean. The gardener/maintenance man Abel, left us freshly picked flowers when he heard it was our honeymoon. He also left us some fresh fruit picked on the property.
We had complete privacy and the weather was perfect. 75 in the day and 65 at night. cloudy and stormy some of the time and a little sunny other times. Sunrises and sunsets that never get old and far surpass any tv show or movie that could be on.
Whenever we need or wanted to go somewhere, Skeeter took us. Zip lining, the beach, the store, even Wal-mart for some comfort foods.
If we ever return to CR (and i'm sure we will) will wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else.
Skeeter, thank you for making our Honeymoon the best it could possibly be.

My wife and I spent two months at this location and could have stayed two more . We found the accommodations to be just as pictured on web sight . Skeeter and his son Alan were great hosts and very willing to help in anyway they could . The landscaping was beautiful . We watched and listened to the birds morning and night . Breath taking sunsets . We fell in love with Demo the dog . We will return in the near future .
My boyfriend and I spent 3 nights at this location while on a week vacation in Costa Rica. It was simple, clean and had stunningly beautiful views from every angle. Skeeter and Alan were helpful and wonderful hosts. I would recommend this location to anyone with a love of nature and quiet. I hope my travels will bring me here again someday.
Our third trip to Costa Rica and Cima Estelar and it just keeps getting better! This time we stayed at the Outpost and once again were amazed at the beauty and cleanliness of this well manicured property. The views of the Central Valley and Pacific Ocean are breathtaking! Our hosts Skeeter and his son Alan again went above and beyond to make sure all our needs were met. The kitchen was stocked with snacks, drinks, fresh fruit and tasty coffee. Alan was our guide on an amazing whitewater rafting trip down the Pacaure river! Then on to the beautiful and uncrowded beaches of Montezuma on the southern tip of the Nicoya Pennisula. Alan's skill at driving and navigating through the country is unmatched. Not to mention his fluent spanish speaking. We also enjoyed a day of swimming and relaxing on the San Pedro river not far from the property where the locals like to hang out. But some of our best times are spent just hanging out at the property enjoying the views and the company of Skeeter and Alan. This time we were also interested in looking at property as we just love it here. Skeeter took us on a tour of available property in the area and answered all our questions about moving and living in Costa Rica. He also introduced us to a local builder who showed us some wonderful home designs. This is not your typical tourist vacation. You can have as much adventure or relaxation as you choose. Skeeter and Alan can accommodate just about anything you wish. Caroline and I brought her 19 year old son along with my brother and his 16 year old son this time to give them a taste of CR. We all agreed this was the best vacation of our lives! In our opinion there is no better place to stay than Cima Estelar.
Many thanks to Skeeter and Alan
We stayed for 2 nights in The Rancho and did not want to leave! Pictures cannot capture the beauty of the mountains and the Central Valley. The Rancho had everything we needed and wanted - well equipped kitchen, nice bathroom, comfy bed, and lots of windows allowing in all the healthy, fresh air. The outdoor living/dining/BBQ/utility room downstairs was a treat. Skeeter and Alan were perfect hosts - entertaining, hospitable, and knowledgeable of the area. We plan on going back next year. Cyclops and Thor - thanks for making us feel safe. Skeeter and Alan - thanks for everything!
The Rancho is located on a beautiful well maintained property, lush and full of flowers and fruit trees. The home is clean and well maintained with a nice kitchen ( I like to cook and found the kitchen pretty well stocked ) the shower is roomy and there is plenty of hot water. and there is good storage for luggage and such. There is a private patio with a large table and chairs upstairs and another patio area with comfy swings and chairs downstairs. This area was a perfect spot for viewing the sunsets (awesome!) and socializing and there is a full laundry room and on the outside is a wash station (for such things as snorkel gear). Skeeter is a great host; on the first day he met us in Puriscal and drove us to the Rancho (since we didn't have a cell phone) then he offered to drive us to some of the local attractions (very thoughtful). Puriscal is about 15 minutes away and has a nice grocery and restaurants (Express pizza is great and they deliver!) The ocean is about an hour and a half away and San Jose is an hour and a half away the other direction. The ocean can be seen in the evening when the sun is reflecting off the water, you can see islands in the water also and it is very beautiful. The central valley can be seen looking the other direction and at night the view reminded us if being in Manhattan and looking out at the city all lit up. We hiked around the property a couple of times and the views are gorgeous. This location is great way to get an idea of what Costa Rica is really like away from all the tourist places. We felt very secure and comfortable here. If you want to do all the touristy things and eat at US style restaurants it is quite a lot of driving and I would recommend staying closer to those things but for peace and quiet and being close to nature this is it.
Puriscal also enjoys being home to two major cigar manufacturers who produce world famous cigars. 'Tobaccos de la Cordillera' One even grows their own tobacco (from Cuban seeds) right on their property just outside of Puriscal. Great to visit, tour and possibly purchase phenomenal cigars at incredibly affordable prices.
