About the property

Top Rated Winery Property Getaway. Dogs Welcome!

Nestled among the vineyards of Hickory Creek, Hickory House offers couples and small families the opportunity to be as active or relaxed as you choose. Hickory House is surrounded by 38 acres of vines, rolling hayfields and wildlife. You will enjoy complete peace and quiet in the evenings, with the exception of the chirping frogs and occasional squawks at sundown by the resident pheasants as they bed down in the fields. The sunsets from the large outside deck are lovely to watch as you enjoy a complementary bottle of Hickory Creek Wine. Coffee on the covered front porch in our rocking chairs, or exploring the property with your pups is a great way to start the day.

Hickory House has 2 bedrooms - one with a king bed, and the second has a pullout queen couch. There is a full bath between the upstairs bedrooms, and a half bath on the first floor. Large french doors open from both the living room and dining room to the outdoor deck with grill and lounge chairs. The kitchen has all amenities for cooking those provisions from nearby farmstands, and the dining room seats 6+. Kids will love the tire swing and room to run and explore nature. You will love getting back to basics and enjoying the beautiful bounty of Southwest Michigan! Please be aware that we do not have WIFI. Cell service works very well in our area.

About owner/property manager

We are from the Chicago area, but have owned a nearby 33 acre farm since 2004, that we visit year round. Eric is a small animal veterinarian on Chicago's north shore, and is honing his vintner skills at Hickory Creek Winery. He is also a private pilot, beekeeper, and antique tractor collector. Jayne worked in advertising and media for many years and is enjoying her new role as co-owner of Hickory Creek Winery. She is content to not have to get on a plane every other week for business, and instead, do some digging in the dirt, and hanging out among the wine tanks. We enjoy all hobbies and activities that involve the outdoors - both winter and summer. We hope our little piece of paradise offers you the same awareness of the beauty of nature, and peaceful serenity we have experienced at Hickory House.

owner/property manager purchased this farmhouse in 2012

Why owner/property manager chose Southwest

As a child, Jayne visited southwest Michigan frequently to attend camp at Tower Hill (Warren Dunes), and spend weeks at a friend's farm and cherry orchard. We were both drawn to the ideal combination of the beautiful landscape of the area, along with the nearby wonderful restaurants, wineries, antiques and charming local shops. We purchased Hickory Creek Winery and the adjacent Hickory House property in May 2012. We love being surrounded by rolling hills and being in the heart of fruit country. We also enjoy being at the threshold of the Lake Michigan Shore wine trail with over 15 wineries to explore. One of our biggest thrills is seeing all the wildlife on our property. And you will be surprised to see pheasant, wild turkeys, and even peacocks quite frequently. Hard to believe all this natural beauty is a 90 minute drive from downtown Chicago!

What makes this farmhouse unique

We always found Hickory House and it's property to be one of the most distinctive and alluring in the area. It sits at the end of a long gravel driveway and features a front porch and side deck surrounded by rose bushes, lavender, russian sage and other perennials. Further charm is lent with the adjacent large apple tree complete with tire swing. Hickory House looks like an old victorian farmhouse, but was actually built a little over 10 years ago. The views from inside the house frame the vineyards, hayfields and distant hills. Anyone with an artistic sense will find it to be very inspiring.

Cute house, great location

  • 4 of 5

Cute house in a great, centralized location. It's so peaceful and the yard and decks are great for relaxing and playing. We brought our young kids (ages 7 and 4) and they loved running around and playing games. We plan to come back again!

A wonderful way to spend summer

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Hickory House. It was just perfect for our family of three. My teenage daughter enjoyed her own room while we enjoyed the very comfy king size bed. The house sits on a beautiful lot that is so peaceful. We enjoyed dinner on the back porch and wine on the front porch. The short walk to the wine tasting room was such a plus.We also took a nice 4 miles walk around the town. I would highly recommend this place if you want a quiet get away.

Amazing peaceful getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time at Hickory House with some friends and our dogs, everyone loved the peace and quiet. Coming from the city it is great to be able to star gaze and watch the lightning bugs. The house was just right, comfortable and everything we needed. Jayne was easy to communicate with and quick to respond. Thanks so much, we will be back!

What a wonderful peaceful place to get away. If you want simple, clean, calm, amazing views, comfort, this is the place to go. Perfect place to get together with old friends and relax. The owners were very helpful and the access to the winery was an added bonus. Can't wait to go back!

Relaxation Guaranteed

  • 5 of 5

Loved our stay here. It was a perfect place for my wife and son and I to spend a weekend relaxing in the quiet confines of Michigan wine country. After a day at the Warren Dunes it was lovely coming back to the Hickory House for dinner and star gazing on the wonderful deck along side the house.

Will gladly return again.

Thank you,

Aaron, Katie and Brenner

Get away from it all, but still be close to anything you need.

  • 5 of 5

House was warm and welcoming. Stayed here for 4 nights with our 2 dogs. We all loved the house and the time spent here, very relaxing. The house is right next to the Hickory Creek Winery (who gives you a free bottle of their wine). Other than the winery, it is just the house and acres of land for your scenic enjoyment. The beach is only 5 miles away. We went on a nice 2 mile hike through the dunes. Not much beach activity as it was still relatively cool during our stay. Owners are very friendly and quick to respond.

King size bed was very comfortable.

Hickory House is located on Hickory Creek Winery's property on the Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail. We are not only in the heart of vineyard and fruit country, we are also minutes away from Warren Dunes, Lake Michigan beaches, several world class and casual golf courses, Four Winds Casino and a variety of high end and casual restaurants along Red Arrow Highway stretching from New Buffalo to St. Joseph. South Bend and Notre Dame are a 30 minute drive from us, so consider Hickory House for those football weekends! We are also located on the Apple Cider Century's bike trail, and there are additional bike trails throughout our area. Outdoor activities are accessible during all four seasons - cross country ski and snowmobile trails, local farmers markets and fruit orchard picking, fall harvest pumpkin patches and of course incredible white sand beaches, dunes and old growth forests for exploring. Cute shops and antiquing are close by in Three Oaks, Sawyer, Buchanan, Lakeside, Union Pier, Harbert, Baroda and Bridgman.
