Nice Place but Not What We Expected
The place was nice but was a lot smaller than the pictures made it seem. It is advertised for larger groups (16 people) but if we hadn't brought air mattresses, then people would have been sleeping on the floor. We were also disappointed that the hot tub was broken so we were not able to use it. Also, there was a 3-person canoe and a 1-person kayak which were great, but the 4-person paddle boat actually had paddles that didn't work, which we were sad about but thankfully there were plenty of oars. Overall, though, we made it work and had an enjoyable experience.
Good management, lot of freedom and privacy, highly recommend
Not Remotely Worth the Money
We were very underwhelmed with this rental, which is a shame because I do think this house has the potential to be a great place to relax - decent size, scenic lakefront, deck, etc. However, the sheer lack of upkeep was what disappointed us the most, especially for the price.
The house, which is supposed to be non-smoking, reeked of stale cigarettes the moment we walked in.
Shortly after we got there, the owner called to let us know a plumber was coming to fix a slight leak in the kitchen sink. The plumber arrived, then told me the only thing to do would be to replace the faucet entirely. A few hours after he left, ANOTHER maintenance person showed up to fix the leak, putting a glue on the pipe. By the next day, despite the "fix," we were dumping out a bucket of water every few hours.
The hot tub also didn't work. The owner said they'd have someone to come fix it, but no one ever arrived. I doubt we would've used it anyway, given how filthy it was. Additionally, I had to speak to the property manager to learn how to work the TV since the owner didn't seem to know how and there wasn't any type of rental guide to help us with this.
Then there smaller things that added up, making us further question the amount we spent on this house.
- The dining room table is not the one showed in the pictures. It's older and the chairs were completely filthy.
- I spent the first morning cleaning up two garbage cans-worth of trash from previous guests after some animal got into it and spread it all across the front yard.
- The "fire pit" was a sad little thing that was completely rusty and whose top was missing. Needless to say, we didn't use it.
- The Weber pictured is now a cheaper grill with an EMPTY propane tank. Didn't get a new one until two days later, the day we decided to leave.
- The laundry detergent was watered down. Really?
- The bottom floor smelled of mildew.
- The windows don't have screens, preventing us from opening them.
- The refrigerator smelled.
- The lights in both bathrooms went out and we couldn't find the breaker to get them running again.
The kicker in all of this was that the owner apologized for all of the issues and offered an extra night, free of charge, as if we'd actually want to stay longer. When we mentioned we were, in fact, leaving a day early and that we would rather receive a refund for our last night, we were met with complete radio silence.
Needless to say, we'll not be staying here again.
Enjoyable family experience
Overall we had a great time. The house was clean and well stocked. Beds and bathrooms were wonderful. However , we were very disappointed in the surrounding property. The yard, dock, fire pit, and water were all covered in litter and garbage. There was broken glass, red party cups, and burnt beer cans. I couldn't let my kids leave the deck without shoes. The hot tub was a hazard as well. The one side was missing and it's on a slant so that when we got in it splashed water out. We just turned off the power and put the cover back on. I just think that the house was great, but the yard needs a lot of work. It's shameful that such a beautiful place would be so unkept. The club amenities were nice when they were available. My kids enjoyed the little beach, but the next day it was closed because there was no staff to work. Overall we had a great time and none of this ruined our vacation though. The owners were great to work with. They were quick to respond if we called with concerns requests or issues.
Everyone Loved the House
The owners of the house were very welcoming to my group and our group's guests. The house was in excellent condition and perfectly sized for a group of 12 and small gathering totaling around 20 people. We are looking forward to renting again in the future.
