Guestbook comments from the manager

We lived in this apartment eight days on May. Photos of flat are real. The apartment has everything you need. Quiet, clean and comfortable. In walking distance to two subway stations, cafe and shops (including those working 24 hours). No problems with parking. Thank you Kenny. He helped us and was very friendly. I recommend apartment of Kenny to anyone who wants to see New York and save a little money.

Insect and cleanliness problem

  • 1 of 5

For starters it has been a struggle to even be in touch with the property owner every time I try to call his phone the voicemail box was completely full and he would never answer there was only one time I spoken to him over the phone before my visit there and that was with the home away workers calling him on three-way with me on the line that was the only way I was able to talk to him before I arrived to the vacation rental. When I arrived he did leave proper instructions for as far as how to retrieve the key but I definitely feel like he needs to do a lot of remodeling it took me almost 30 minutes to open the big steel door that you have to go through because it is a really old rusty door so it would make it easier for people if he repaired the door or replaced it.He was reachable when I actually landed out there in New York on that first day but after that first day he was extremely hard to get in touch with. Also it said that the vacation rental came with cable but every time I try to call the property owner to have him step by step me through how to work the TV to get the cable going he would not have any answer for me so I had to buy DVDs to watch over the weekend since there was no cable at all even though it said there would be cable in the advertisement of the property. Not to mention the biggest issue I had staying there the first night I went to sleep I woke up with my skin itching like crazy it felt like I had a little bites on my ankles that would not stop itching and then as each day went past that I slept there I would wake up with more bites on my skin in different places I'm not sure if the property owner has bedbugs or some type of insects in the property but it's definitely some type of insect that was biting my skin it was really irritating to me and I don't even have sensitive skin so to me that was a very alarming thing to have to go through. When I landed back in my home state I definitely went to the doctors to have my skin checked out. I recommend that no one stays at this property it's not comfortable at all not to mention if you have allergies it's probably not smart for you to stay there because it seems like he has a dust and spider web problem.

Cute and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in this Brooklyn apartment. A leisurely three minute walk would take us to a wonderful pizza joint (Saraghina) or a great coffee shop (Bohaus). The subway station is only a two minute walk away. We parked on the street, which required us to move the car every couple days, but we never had a problem finding free and legal parking.

Nice place but unreachable host

  • 4 of 5

We liked the apartment with its fully equipped kitchen. WiFi would have even been nice, though.

We also liked the neighborhood, and it was close to the metro station. It takes about half an hour to go to lower Manhatten.

We tried to reach our host several times, but he didn't get back to us. That is not acceptable. Fortunately, we did alright without his assistance and had a nice stay in the apartment.

Sent Kenny 2 emails, 1 - verify directions from JFK taking the AirTran & 2 - reminding him we needed an air mattress (ad states available upon request) & asked if luggage could be dropped early. Kenny responded to 1st email verifying directions & 2nd email stated he may not be available upon our arrival, keys would be at his house across the street. No keys, called K, was told he would call cleaning lady. 15 mins later he lets us know he can't get in touch w/ cleaning lady & advices us to get lunch, he will meet us at 2:30p. No K at 2:30p. We waited in drizzling rain until after 3p for him to arrive. There was a couple at his door also waiting Bc they did not have keys in the mailbox. After 5 mins of K talking to the couple, husband walked over & got the keys so we could get our bags out of the rain. There was no air mattress. Called & was told he would deliver one. Returned to apartment after 9p. No mattress. Called K & was told wait 15mins, he was checking one for leaks. 20 mins later he brings it. After 5 mins of inflation it's flat. Called K, no replacement until the next day. Later received text from K saying something seemed "off" w/ us & asking if everything was ok. Next morning responded explaining we didn't enjoy waiting in the rain and son woke up w/ sore neck after sleeping on 2 chairs pushed together. K responded that it was rude of my husband to get the keys while he talked to other clients, rude of me not to wave back when he waved, most guest provide their own mattresses & let me know "New Yorkers don't act that way". He was offended that I didn't wave at him when I was in the rain gathering my bags!

Bathroom light flickers. Dryer breaker flips after 5 mins of use. Electrical & gas hazard. Ants inside when it rains. No curtain on bathroom shower window or kitchen window. Very uncomfortable for female guest. The AC unit is behind curtain that faces main road in bedroom, cannot have curtain open & AC on consecutively w/o neighbors seeing you sleep. Shower goes cold when other tenants use the hot water. Bathroom & living area floor are different heights, lots of toe stubbing! No extra garbage bags, laundry pods or shampoo (popular rentals have extra supplies left from previous guest. This rental does not). Loose ceramic tiles throughout. Nail sticking up through floor in bedroom. Broken dining chair. Blanket only on bed, other guest have to use sheets. Poor water pressure. Security door broken. Hall smells like urine and mildew.

Car: recommended

We do not provide tours of my rental apartments. This is, in part, because they are almost always occupied by other guests. Also, for the privacy and security of our guests, we do not disclose the physical address of the location until you have booked the apartment. Brooklyn is very large borough and it is the responsibility of the guest to ensure that this area is right for them and their needs before booking. If you are unfamiliar with the location, the nearest cross-streets are Bainbridge Street and Lewis Avenue. The apartment is 1 and 1/2 blocks away from the A express and C local subway lines at Utica Avenue, and 15 minutes from Manhattan.
