About Kara Keller

Kara is a Michigan native with an appreciation for nature, a passion for good design and a love for historic homes. She moved to Kalamazoo from the shores of Lake Michigan in 1990 to attend college. She remained in Kalamazoo because of it's youthful energy, amazing people and an up and coming direction which has since been realized. When she's not combing the earth for treasures to use in her kottages and working on DIY projects, she's often found running, cross country skiing, biking, kayaking and traveling.

Kara Keller purchased this apartment in 1996

Why Kara Keller chose Kalamazoo

This Unique, Kalamazoo Bed and Breakfast is a beautifully renovated, Italianate-style, three-unit home nestled in between three historic Kalamazoo neighborhoods and located on Kalamazoo College’s scenic campus.

All three private Kottages within this multi-unit house are furnished with all the necessities of home, including a well stocked kitchen, cozy living room, separate bedrooms and a spacious bathroom. Plus, all the warm touches you’d expect from a beloved B&B– like fireplaces, beds you melt into, European-style breakfast treats and even mini-bars.

Available for overnight, weekly or monthly rental, this Kalamazoo B&B is an ideal choice for business or pleasure.

What makes this apartment unique

If you’re seeking an innovative and modern b&b experience, you’ll enjoy our notion of doing something different rather than doing the same thing better.

However, if what you’re seeking is a traditional b&b experience which includes prepared breakfast with other guests, daily housekeeping, frequent interactions with the innkeeper and renting only one room, I might recommend another option.

Kara’s Kottaages offers much more privacy, flexibility and space than most b&b’s, which includes self check-in’s at anytime, kottages that can accommodate entire families, diy meals of what you want when you want, the option to host small gatherings indoors or out and an innkeeper who does not enter the kottage unless requested to do so.

Each kottage is lovingly designed for those who wish to be on their own schedule in a peaceful and private space without the constant presence of a live-in innkeeper and other guests.

Notes:
The most notable feature to this unique bed and breakfast is the ability to have up to 5 guests in one kottage; a perfect space for families and small groups who wish to be together to play games, watch movies and visit without fear of affecting other guests. This Kottage design also gives guests the ability to invite other visitors into their home away from home where they can entertain and host small events. Another benefit of this Kottage design is that it offers many comforts and necessities to extended stay guests to Kalamazoo who wish to have comforts such as a kitchen, living room, television, bedrooms, etc..

Perfect setting for a family gathering and relaxation!

  • 5 of 5

Kara is the perfect hostess. She's thought of everything one could possibly need for a home away from home stay. The beds are comfy cozy and the linens are fresh and crisp. You can have coffee from freshly ground beans without leaving the house and have a lazy morning. The home is warmly appointed and full of interesting features.

We'd stay again!!

Another Awesome Stay!

  • 5 of 5

This place is really cute and cozy. Very clean, well organized and decorated. Has lots of little extra things that you may have left at home and lots of breakfast items to choose from...waffles, pancakes, Sausage, Eggs, oatmeal, bagels, english muffin...etc... The house is located in a perfect area. The owner is very easy to work with and sent the check in information timely. Will be back again.

Outstanding!

  • 5 of 5

Kara's Kottage was comfortable and beautifully decorated. The location was convenient to downtown and safe for walking the dog during the day and at night. We loved having the variety of breakfast items and being able to enjoy a relaxing breakfast "at home". Each room was spotless and well laid out with many extra touches that were appreciated. We look forward to returning next year!

Excellent place to stay. Had everything we needed, breakfast food a bonus. So much nicer than staying at a hotel, and cheaper.
