About Vern Halter
Susan and I have finished 26 Iditarod and Yukon Quest 1000 mile races. Our place is a traditional Alaskan homestead featuring racing sled dogs. I am a Yukon Quest Champion and have finished in the top five of the Iditarod and top ten many times. We are an active working sled dog kennel.
Vern Halter purchased this Apartment in 1999
Why Vern Halter chose Willow
We are in a great location on the Parks Highway - right on the way to/from Anchorage, Talkeetna and Denali National Park.
What makes this Apartment unique
Our apartments are 600 square feet and include private baths, King Beds and fully equipped kitchens. The apartments open up into another 600 square feet of lounge, TV, and Wifi area. This extra area also has many spare beds for kids or larger families to spread out in. It is a very comfortable, clean, and fun environment. Our Homestead is beautifully appointed with gardens and flowers.

Great experience with the Iditarod dogs!
Great place to learn & experience the Iditarod process & of course the dogs & puppies!
Beautiful, personal comfort
Vern and Susan have taken their passion and love for their animals, mushing, and Alaska and turned those into amenities.
The place was welcoming (literally, there was a sign with our names, a welcome table, juice and water, etc), warming, the Iditiarod displays were interesting, and the apartment nice and spacious.
Hospitable, fun and educational
Our experience here will be a lifetime memory. The hospitality of Vern Halter and his staff is outstanding. We stayed in one of the apartments which was cozy and comfortable with a complete kitchen full healthy snacks and a comfortable bed with good linens and pillows. The common area is large and inviting. They experience with the dogs was so much fun. There were 12 puppies on the trail we walked who gave us great entertainment. Watching the stamp harness the dogs was very funny and educational. The dogs then pulled us through the forest, and allowed us to see how much they love to run. We learned so much from Cindy who is an outstanding presenter. We stayed two nights so had plenty of time to enjoy the dogs and the property
Convenient, plenty of room, clean, professional, a lovely stay.
I highly recommend this bed and breakfast!
My daughter and I spent 3 nights here in the winter. The facilities were perfect for the experience we were looking for. The dogs and sled area were right there and the location also allowed us to explore the area. The staff were extremely experienced, warm and welcoming (especially Brittney!). Thank you for providing for us an experience we will never forget!
Loved our stay here!
The owners were very welcoming and accommodating. The room was very spacious as was the large common area. Such a neat experience during our time in Alaska! If we visit again, we would definitely stay here.
