About Don Vigil

Our family is from Albuquerque, New Mexico, where my wife and I own small businesses. Our son is an illustrator who graduated from Ringling College of Art in Sarasota, and our daughter is in the jewelry business in Denver.

Don Vigil purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Don Vigil chose Indian Beach Sapphire Shores

This cozy little place was purchased when our son was a student at The Ringling College of Art, since it was so close to school. We decided to hang on to it after he graduated giving us a new and interesting place for us to spend vacations, especially during the winter.

"Old" Florida for Today

  • 5 of 5

The Ringling cottage and the neighborhood it is in are fine examples of Old Florida. I'm guessing the cottage itself was built in the 30's or 40's, but has been well maintained and updated just enough to be the perfect comfortable beach town cottage. We loved it.

The neighborhood is the same way. Quite a few old houses and some not so old. Some are almost shacks and some are grand bayfront estates worth millions. Also, the neighborhood landscape is lush and tropical. You can easily sense the jungle Florida wants to naturally be. Don't be scared of it. Walk around at least 3 blocks in every direction to experience the real Florida.

The cottage itself is comfortable and has all the amenities needed for a short or extended stay. The location can't be beat. From downtown Sarasota to every beach between Venice and Holmes on Anna Maria Island, everything is easy and quick to get to.

I would stay there again anytime.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

Me and my family had a great stay at the small house. It had a larger bed in one room, a twin bed in another and a pull out sofa what was reasonably comfortable. the place was well kept and it really felt like home. One thing to note was the microwave would occasionally go out and we'd have to reset the breaker, but it really was a minor inconvenience. There were plenty of things to do and see in the area including some of the most amazing beaches in the gulf. Thanks Don for the amazing stay. I'd recommend it to a friend quite easily..

My Stay at the Ringling Cottage

  • 5 of 5

I adore this little cottage. It reminds me of my old Florida. I'm a native. There aren't many places to stay here now, that have the older style of living. It's comfortable, quiet, neighbors are great.

I hope to be able to stay here again. Thanks Don and Mary!!

Excellent accommodation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 5 nights and had an excellent time here. The cottage is exactly as described and lived up to our expectations. It was clean, well maintained and comfortable. Loved sitting on the porch. The location is great for downtown Sarasota and beaches. We would recommend a stay here.

Lovely Clean Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The Ringling Cottage is everything you want in a Home away from home, It’s Clean, Cosy and the beds are very comfy, it’s in a nice safe area, but expect a long walk to Main Street, at least 30 mind but the bus stops at the bottom of the street and the beaches are just a short drive over the bridge, We loved this cottage

It is just 5 to 10 minutes to the fabulous Ringling Museum, Ringling Circus Museum and downtown Sarasota, not to mention Sarasota-Bradenton Airport. It is just two blocks to the Ringling College of Art and ten minutes to New College of Florida and the University of South Florida. In addition, the location is within fifteen minutes of fabulous shopping at St. Armand's Circle and the sugar white, nationally ranked Siesta Key Beach.
