Designed by architect Brian MacKay-Lyons and recipient of the Lieutenant Governor's Award of Merit in 1992; this unique cottage was inspired by Nova Scotia's Maritime tradition. The modern design concept is softened by the use of natural materials and lots of windows. An arched roof that is reminiscent of the hull of a boat covers the open concept design that encompasses the view through floor-to-ceiling glass doors.
The living room features a freestanding wood fireplace and opens to a spacious covered deck. There are two bedrooms. Downstairs, the Master Bedroom has a queen size bed and a spectacular view of the ocean through a wall of windows. Upstairs is an open loft with two single beds and a sliding patio door that opens on to a small balcony. From here you can see all the way down the bay to the ocean. The second floor bedroom is separated from the main living space by a half wall, that adds to the open and airy feel of the cottage, but makes that bedroom not suitable for young children.
The cottage comes equipped with a downstairs four-piece bath and laundry facilities. Bed linens and towels are provided. Other amenities include: propane BBQ, WiFi, and wood fireplace.
Bay Bluff Cottage has a 2-person kayak available for guests to use. Eel Bay is a beautiful location from which to set out and explore one of Nova Scotia's many coastal inlets
Driving distances are about 25 minutes to either Shelburne or Barrington; 2.5 hours to the Halifax airport and 1.25 hours to the ferry terminal in Yarmouth.
Bay Bluff Cottage has a one week SATURDAY TO SATURDAY rental period during the peak season (July and August) and three night minimum rental period during the shoulder seasons.Perched on a 40 ft bluff, Bay Bluff Cottage enjoys a commanding view of the bay. Accessible by foot, the coastline is a pebble beach with some sand at low tide. A foot path leads from the cottage garden to the water front allowing you to launch the cottage kayak into the sheltered bay.
