Pool / Spa
The property was shabby compared to photo's
We were very disappointed by the overall quality of the property. The fixtures and finishes were cheap, and it lacked care and maintenance. Only 1 light bulb in the lounge worked, nails were sticking out of the decking around the pool which my kids kept catching their toes on. The dishwasher cupboard wouldn't close without opening another cupboard to assist it. The glass in one of the kitchen windows kept slipping, there was no hot water supply to the kitchen sink so a lot of the dishes in the cupboard were covered in a layer of grease when we arrived. The rep for the property promised to email some info of various things we could do during the week but didn't.
All in all it was a hugely disappointing experience particularly as the price of the property wasn't cheap!
Lovely, spacious, tastefully decorated villa. Perfect surroundings - quiet and secluded. Much of the mundane items for self catering were provided which was really thoughtful such as loo rolls and dishwasher tablets etc...
Wish we had taken our own CDs and DVDs for evening entertainment though, as there were limited ones there. Children's games provided were also very limited and not appropriate for our 6 year old.
However, the pool was great fun and the nearby beaches lovely. We had a wonderfully relaxing holiday.
Setubal Feb 2016
We have rented villas in Spain, France, Italy and Greece but this was our first disappointment. Our visits are always in February so keep in mind that our review is written as a winter visit and we had a good bit of rain in the first 4 days of our 10 day stay. The villa only gets sun in the late afternoon so it is not possible to enjoy a morning breakfast in the sunshine. Another villa is directly behind and very close to the pool which does not show in any of the pictures. Also, the villa does appear to be used by the owners very much which shows itself in a number of ways. First, there was a musty smell that we could not get rid of. Second, the house is managed by an agency who do a great job but since they manage many properties there are not personal touches or a house booklet that typically describes the local beaches, restaurants, places to visit, maps, etc. as well as directions to the house (something more than GPS coordinates). We had water coming through one bedroom ceiling when it rained and the stove range locked up three times requiring us to turn off the main house circuit breaker to reset the electric range. Finally, the parking area had two sizable holes that required us to spin our way through the mud since they were on a steep slope. We would not rent this villa again.
Overall, we greatly enjoyed our time on the Setubal Peninsula and Serra da Arrabida National Park. There are a number of beaches that are fantastic (beautiful sand/water and not developed). Lots of local wineries, castles and we found a number of great restaurants. The large market in Setubal is also worth a few visits since it is close with outstanding produce, fish, breads, etc. Sinatra is definitely worth a days visit.
The House is Fantastic in a very nice place with nature aroud and not far from Setubal city and beach.
The House is so comfortable that we seems to be at home. You could find everthing you need for a familiy.
The swimming pool is very nice.
And the agency who rent the house was very professionnal and nice with us.
We had a great stay at the villa, with plenty of sunshine by the pool and great outdoors just a short drive away. The car hire option with transfer worked brilliantly, as we were arriving late and being driven to the villa upon arrival was just a great way to start the vacation.
The house is very beautiful and tranquil with all the amenities one needs. The pool was still cool compared to the +40 temperatures and the kids would just spend hours in and out of the pool.
The location is also very good with plenty of great places to eat at and visit nearby. The dolphin cruise is just amazing, highly recommended as is the whole region and this villa.
The beach road can get crowded so watch out for the times to visit the beaches, but with the good guidance and information by the hosts, the whole holiday was great. Also the possibility to make a flexible booking for 8 days and not just Saturday-Saturday was a huge plus
My partner and I holidayed for a week at this clean and modern house in the countryside. Luzia's welcome basket was a pleasant and unexpected introduction to the gastronomy of Azeitão. The house was found with many necessities already in place, such as coffee, spices, soap, and WC paper, which was a welcome touch.
The location of the house is perfect for exploration of Arrábida and environs; lots to do from Palmela to Sesimbra: historic sites, wineries, villages, beaches, and beautiful vistas. The maps and brochures provided at the house were quite useful in mapping out self-guided tours of the region... a region that will excite all five of your senses!
Our visit to Casa Serra da Arrábida was thoroughly enjoyable; we would definitely return.
The Natural Park of Serra da Arrábida is a protected area due to its high value at biodiversity. For this reason, the park is currently being proposed as an UNESCO World Heritage site. Here you'll find a magnificent natural environment to discover, either by car, trekking or cycling. At the slope of the mountain, you'll find lovely small beaches of fine sand, no waves and no wind, where you can also do canoeing, pedal-boat, diving, sailing and, of course, relaxing! The beaches of Figueirinha, Creiro or Galapos can be reached by a 10 min. driving; the friendly City of Setúbal stays at 5km and offers a wide range of high quality seafood and fish restaurants and, of course, the world famous Moscatel Wine; the charming Village of Azeitão stays at 10km and offers you the best of its gastronomy: the “Torta de Azeitão” (kind of a cake) and the Azeitão cheese. At 20km driving, you’ll find the picturesque fishing Village of Sesimbra. Lisbon stays at 30km. Other Activities: canoeing, dolphins watching, bird watching, Jeep tour, catamaran tour, wine tasting Golf: There are great golf courses such as the ones of Palmela or Troia, which stays at 15km - 30km.
