Welcome to the oasis of Casa Amarilla at Nambe River Ranch. This gorgeous 3,000 square foot, 3 bedroom, high ceiling home is situated on a 10 acre farm with apple orchard, heated swimming pool, and beautiful Sangre de Cristo mountain views. The property offers a rustic yet beautifully designed setting with horses, chickens, historical irrigation ditch, gardens and a luxurious swimming pool. Casa Amarilla is perfect for a family getaway or private retreat from the busy world.

Casa Amarilla is a scenic 25 minute drive from Santa Fe and 15 minutes from the inspiring Santa Fe opera house where performances can be enjoyed throughout the summer.

In the winter, enjoy access to three different ski resorts: Santa Fe ski basin (45min), Taos (90min), and Pajarito in Los Alamos (45 min). Once you have worn yourself out skiing you can relax in this cozy home with radiant heat flooring and fireplaces in each master bedroom and the living room. From the upstairs master bedroom you will enjoy beautiful views of the snow capped Sangre de Cristo range- the southern most section of the rocky mountains.

In the summer, you will enjoy a true oasis in the high mountain desert with rich cottonwood trees and sandstone clad salt water heated swimming pool!

The home is privately located in a traditional settlement area (Nambe pueblo in-holding). The home, designed and owned by a local award winning architect, reflects a modern interpretation of classical New Mexican design. The home's interior is richly designed in vibrant colors, unique furnishings, classical tapestries & wall hangings. Luring you out of this comfortable home are flagstone paths through native plant and cactus gardens leading to the pool with full outdoor kitchen, gazebo, shower and spectacular mountain views. While you relax by the pool, you'll hear distant joyful laughter as your kids enjoy the nearby (but not too close) 100 sq ft brick floored playhouse hidden in the young forest where tree perched northern pygmy owls can sometimes be found by day (summer). Mature cottonwood and apple trees with hammock and natural design swimming pool make this a true oasis. Warning: you may find it very hard to leave!

The swimming pool is heated to 80 degrees from June 1st to Oct 1st

There are two medium/large dogs who live on the 10 acre property. Garbo and Newman have free roam of the property at all times. If you or any of your family have any fears or problems with dogs, this beautiful property is not going to be a good fit for you.

We built this beautiful property to share with our friends and family (our grand-kids pictured here). Yet there was so much time it waited for someone to come enjoy the splendor, that we are opening it up to others. Why Thomas Beebe chose New Mexico

We bought this property because it is in such a lush area in the high mountain desert. We have acres of apple trees and cooling cottonwoods. We remodeled the main house in 2001+ and currently still live here with our dogs, horses and chickens. In 2003+ we designed and built the beautiful guest house we offer to you here. We love the santa fe opera and enjoy a short drive to the performances throughout the summer season.

Casa amarilla offers a very private and peaceful setting for your vacation. The santa fe opera house is just 15 minutes away and the center of santa fe is another 10 minutes south.

Here on our 10 acre property we have a salt water swimming pool and outdoor kitchen for a cool and beautiful setting to enjoy your vacation.

Three words: Gorgeous! Spacious! Delightful!

Everything about Casa Amarilla made me smile. The house is designed for comfort and is visually stunning. The salt water pool is AMAZING! Exactly what you need on these hot desert days. And the full kitchen by the pool made it easy to have group dinners outside. Communicating with Thomas was great--he was a quick, thorough responder. And once we were on site, the caretaker, David, and his daughter, Danielle were lovely and incredibly responsive to our requests. We're already trying to figure out if we can come back again next year!

Charming, Shabby, Remote

Overall, this home is charming, has great bones and a nice layout, but the furniture is shabby and desperately needs updating. The location is remote, so be prepared to drive a lot. The home is in a pretty, scenic area but is also amongst a compound of other homes, trailers and out-buildings, so it is not secluded.

We had a few challenges with our stay. The home had zero working smoke detectors when we arrived. Getting that fire code violation addressed was a challenge (we absolutely had to persevere in our requests) but after a lot of calling, texting, and justifying why this mattered to us and our six children, new detectors were installed by the next evening. The house was also overrun with sugar ants, which were in all the downstairs rooms and even in an upstairs bathroom (think ants all over the coffee pot, kitchen counters, table, and toothbrushes.)

Our main issue with the home was that the furniture throughout the home and patio area was very run down, stained, and in poor shape.

Owner's Response: We are very sorry for the ant problems you experienced while staying at Casa Amarilla. Many of our guests do not want heavy pesticides used on the property right before your stay...especially with six kids...so we try and schedule our pest control well away from our guests. In this case, nature conspired against us and we had a lot of ants all at once. We will be scheduling pest control more frequently. Much of the furniture in the house is vintage and classical. We have always felt that it is unique and contributes to an old world eclectic decor. It is not in bad condition, just not new. Most of our guests do not want to stay in a house right out of pottery barn! The photos of the house are current and show exactly how the furniture looks. It is unfortunate that you did not look at the photos ahead of time and chose instead to be critical in your review.

Motorcycle Enthusiasts

We chose this location because it was the right size and was an awesome property with a great location. We really enjoyed the secluded outdoors areas. We had an SUV and three motorcycles. We parked the motorcycles on the concrete basketball court up under the trees. It provided a great spot to polish bikes and prepare for the ride. If you are planning to ride in the mountains this is a great place to launch from, and a great place to come back to in the evenings. I regret that we did not have time to enjoy the great outdoor kitchen and pool area more. Next time we may need to bring some steaks for the grill! We kept the windows open the whole time and it was very pleasant in mid September.

Family Adventure

After much research, we selected this property for our family vacation this year. The home is located north of Santa Fe - which was perfect for our vacation style. We spent our mornings hiking in Bandelier National Monument, Los Alamos, Santa Fe National Forest, Diablo Canyon, Hyde Memorial Park and Great Sand Dunes National Park. Our afternoons were spent by the pool. It was more than enough room for our family; and our son loved the selection of children's books and furniture (kids sized chairs!). We appreciated the laundry facility and well appointed kitchen. The beach entry at the pool was an early hit - but soon enough, our 3 year old was jumping off of the rock formation diving board with enthusiasm.

A Break From Our Christmas Tradition

Our family did something unique this year. We're from the deep south and wanted to experience a white Christmas. Oddly enough, some last minute planning led us to this home. It was absolutely perfect in every way! It had the privacy we were looking for with a reasonable distance from everything. The home had everything we were looking for. It accommodated our family of 6 with plenty of space to spare. The kids loved it as did my wife and I! We can't wait to come back!

Bat Mitzvah Celebration

My family stayed at Casa Amarillo and couldn't have been more pleased with our accommodations. The home is extremely well designed and tasteful in its decorations. It is flooded with light, views, niches and bancos. We actually live in the area but sought out this rental property to hold our daughter’s Bat Mitzvah Celebration. It was ideal in this regard, from picturesque horses walking by in a parade like manner, to flowers in bloom by the property's entrance. The service was held in a fenced grassy field under the shade of large cottonwood trees. The reception too was held outside on a transformed basketball court that was perfect for a plated meal and conversation. The kids who attended continued the celebration in the heated pool with smoothies served bar side. There was more than ample poolside loungers to allow parents and guests to enjoy the sound and sight of children playing in water. We made memories on this property and aside from all of the images that recorded the event, we have only positive recollections of our time there. Our gathering was for roughly 50 people ranging in age from 8 to 91. A few words in summation of our time at Casa Amarillo: tasteful, rustic elegance, accommodating, even details were not only pre-considered but handled gracefully. We hope to have our younger children's celebrations there as well. We didn't need or want to leave the property to do anything else other than enjoy its quiet beauty, the company of visiting relations and the amazing New Mexico weather.
