Oceanside is the northernmost community in San Diego County, along the Pacific coast from downtown San Diego. It was settled in the 1920s, with traditional Spanish-style modest houses so escapes the gentrification of some of the later developed beachfront communities. It is a laid-back town, some say unchanged from the hippie days of the 1960s, although half of the surfers sport grey hair.

About the owner: We first looked at -- and liked -- this house some 25 years ago, when it was for sale. We were captivated by the great views, but could not afford it then. When it came back on the market, we jumped at the opportunity, We have a few years left before retirement, so we hope others will enjoy it in the meantime. The house is an example of Mid-Century Modern post and beam designed by a Los Angeles architect. Its open design with lots of glass brings the outside in.
