Overview

About the property

Cottage is .9 miles east of the center of Black Mountain.

This charming fully-remodeled cottage will lure you into a peaceful state to make your mountain stay a wonderful memory. Enjoy beautiful hardwood oak floors with furniture and cabinets that were hand-crafted by a local artisan. It has two bedrooms both with queen-sized beds. The master suite has an adjoining huge bathroom with a new washer and dryer. The second bath has a walk-in shower. The unique front porch and long deck along the back of the house will provide outdoor space for relaxing. The spacious kitchen has brand new energy-efficient appliances and is equipped for gourmet cooking including basic supplies. All countertops are high-quality granite.

Finding another area with so much authentic charm and convenience for activities would be very difficult. Resting just outside the hectic pace of the city, your cottage is still only 15 miles away from the Biltmore House in Asheville. The town of Black Mountain (.9 miles west) is full of interesting options for antiquing, gift shopping, and the small-town charm of a local ice cream and chocolate parlor, the old Hardware Store, and outstanding dining throughout the area. Summers offer free musical performances each Thursday evening at Lake Tomahawk sponsored by the town of Black Mountain, where families, children, and pets alike can visit and enjoy the evening. No trip to the Blue Ridge is complete without a picnic on the Parkway and day trips to Mt. Mitchell, Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, Linville Falls and Blowing Rock, Lake James, Fontana Dam, Hendersonville, Waynesville, and many others.

About Karen Groves

This house was my grandmother's house that she built in 1952. I grew up in the house next door for all of the first 18 years of my life. So this is a special property for me. Black Mountain was a wonderful place to grow up. I live in Baton Rouge now and love to spend time in the mountains especially in the summer. I am a certified financial planner and live with six cats. I have traveled all over the world and love cooking, gardening and wildlife.

Karen Groves purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Karen Groves chose Blue Ridge Mountains

The house was in very bad shape following my mother's death. The house has been gutted and totally remade and enlarged as the cottage it was destined to be. From my travel experiences I have tried to incorporate things into the house to make guests feel at home with modern conveniences but still give a flavor of western North Carolina hospitality. I know that you will enjoy your stay in this unique home. The house next door (#432810) where I grew up is also available to rent making this property ideal for extended family or friends.

What makes this cottage unique

Enjoy the large deck that spans the entire back of the house as well as an incredible front porch. Have coffee on the porch in the morning sun and dinner from grill on the deck in evening. Watch the wild young rabbits play in the mornings. See the fireflies at night with their twinkling lights. The large modern kitchen is well-equipped to allow gourmet cooking. The house is located in a nice family neighborhood.

Very clean and updated.

  • 4 of 5

We loved the house. We couldn't fine one negative to say. I wish there would have been more of an unobstructed view, but that's all.

Lovely craftsman cottage

  • 5 of 5

My family and I throughly enjoyed Karen's home during our short stay to visit our daughter at Montreat College. The house is a wonderful combination of the character of a craftsman cottage and modern updates. The bedrooms were spacious with large closets. The kitchen had everything you need to cook meals or you can drive to Black Mountain in just a few short minutes. The kitchen and bathrooms were updated and the washer and dryer were a great bonus. The cottage is located in a quiet residential neighborhood less than a mile from downtown Black Mountain. Black Mountain is a wonderful mountain town with dining and shopping, and Asheville is about 15 minutes away. For the same price we would have spent on two cheap motel rooms, we were able to relax at this cottage with more space and peacefulness. Darlene, the neighbor, was very kind and helpful to answer any questions we had. Thanks, Karen, for sharing your cottage with my family. We will definitely rent your cottage again when we visit our daughter.

Great Cottage for Our Stay!

  • 5 of 5

This cute cottage made us feel at home. It has been remodeled and it was well done. The kitchen was well equipped. The bedrooms were good size with comfy beds. Each morning we enjoyed the fat Robins and even saw Bluebirds. The trains going by now and then were not a problem for us. We enjoyed hearing them. Since we were going to the Biltmore, shopping in Black Mountain, Montreat, etc., this was a great location. Also, it was immaculate! One of the easiest check-ins and outs I have ever had. Thanks Karen and Darlene!

Our stay was enjoyable as always. The house is close to our daughter and family which makes it so convenient. This makes our 3rd visit to Karen's rental house so you can now safely say we are very satisfied customers.

Great long stay in the cottage

  • 5 of 5

I stayed a month and a half in the Craftsman Cottage and it felt just like home. The finishes inside the house are beautiful. It was well-outfitted and very comfy. The house gets wonderful sun which isn't that common in the mountains. I particularly enjoyed watching the sunsets on the large back deck. The nice neighbor kept me supplied with home grown tomatoes. The cottage is located just minutes from the adorable town of Black Mountain with its cute shops and diverse restaurants. Every day shopping like groceries is close too. The nearby highway provides very easy access to Asheville and the surrounding mountains. I couldn't have picked a better place to stay. I was sad to leave my home away from home.
