Come experience Puako's great beachcombing, magnificent sunsets, abundant tide pools, turtles, some of the island's best snorkeling, scuba diving, and favorite surf spots. One can choose between Paniau Beach at one end, Wailea Beach with its white pristine Hawaiian sand and aquamarine ocean at the other, or any of the many beach access points that dot scenic Puako Beach Drive in between.

Hapuna State Beach Park is also located nearby and is a prime spot for body boarding, sunbathing, sand castle making and one of the best beaches in the entire state.

This is undoubtedly a great spot to enjoy the beauty of the island, a tropical lifestyle, the sights, sounds and scents of Hawaii, only as Puako and the surrounding area can deliver, at an authentic vintage cottage.

Perfect for a couple or those with small children.

Wonderful location, perfect little house

  • 5 of 5

Our three night stay at this one of a kind vacation house in Puako was all we could have asked for. Gregg was always responsive to our inquiries, and the cottage was immaculate with the greatest Hawaiian back yard you can imagine! We felt like we were in a private hideaway even though we were across the street from the ocean, a quick five minutes from great beaches and good dining. Would rent again!

Heavanly Puako Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

This little cottage certainly deserves the accolades already bestowed: peace and quiet, charm, comfort, cleanliness, hospitality, location, view (of Mauna Kea, especially, but also the fascinating "backyard" surroundings that are reminiscent of South Africa - one would not be surprised to see a giraffe wander by...). Other wildlife: wild boars, turkeys, all manner of tropical birds to serenade you (and awaken you with their amazing conversations). Yes, that was indeed a cardinal you just heard. Stroll across the street to the nearest ocean access where there are dolphins and turtles and if you are lucky at certain times of the year, whales. The snorkeling is also terrific and the tide pools fascinating.

Gregg and Laurel are wonderful hosts and readily available for any needs or queries, but, really, it is all provided for you. They have thought of everything (well, you might have to purchase your own toasted coconut ice cream at the handy nearby general store).

You will so enjoy the heavenly bed and the delightful outdoor shower, as others have mentioned - and just in case you just have to see that NBA playoff game or episode of Masterpiece Theater while on vacation (and why not?) , there is even an excellent tv for your use,

not to mention a toaster for your breakfast toast with mango preserves. They have thought of everything.

A favorite of this traveler (to Puako for many, many years) is an evening starlight stroll (no street lights or traffic) with the fragrance of tropical flowers all around.

Finally, be sure to visit Mauna Kea Beach Hotel for a cocktail and to watch the Manta Rays after dark - or perhaps for a lovely swim and snorkel The club sandwiches at the beach snack bar are excellent.

The Puako Cottage Life : ) September 2017

  • 5 of 5

Just looking at the VRBO picture of this cottage makes me happy. I am still dreaming of showering under the stars and the mimosa tree in the outdoor shower. I understand that the small cottage began its life as a fishing shack and Gregg remodeled it. It is a lovely large + private property with birds (yes, wild turkeys among them) and trees on quiet lane across from public shore access. We were able to snorkel among the turtles right off the reef. The cottage is spotless, clean and uncluttered. The bed and linens: super comfortable. Kitchen well-equipped. Big grill with extra propane. Good proximity to some of the nicest sandy beaches. Good communication with owners. We were fortunate to meet Gregg, a perfect host. We look forward to our next visit to this oasis. Thank you very much.

just what we needed.

This little house was perfect. It was clean, quiet, and had everything, including boogie boards and sand toys for the kids. Close to the best beaches on the island with a nice little market nearby. Thanks for the great vacation!
