Overview

About the property

Sleeps 6; 2 bedrooms, 1 den, 2 bathrooms

After a day on the beach, water, or wildlife refuge watching birds and ponies, relax at Sans Souci, located on the land where Misty of Chincoteague once grazed and immediately adjacent to what remains of her pasture, where new ponies are boarded.

Sans Souci is French for 'no worries' or 'carefree,' and that's what your vacation will be when you stay in these charming accommodations. Decorated in whimsical Eastern Shore Americana and beachy island living, this home has an open downstairs floorplan and unique upstairs ceiling lines. A large screened front porch is a perfect place to enjoy a cool drink, while watching your children safely play or ride bicycles on the quiet cul-de-sac.

The open first level design includes a living room, dining area with ceiling fan, kitchen, and large island with seating where everyone can hangout while meals are prepared . A separate room on the first level, the Americana room, serves as a television viewing room or sleeping area with two extra-long twin sleeper sofas; just flip the backs up (or leave them as is), and they are ready to use (extra foam toppers for comfort available). This room features a ceiling fan and sliding French doors that open onto the back deck with a view of Misty's pasture. Across the hall is a full bath and the washer/dryer closet.

On the second level, you'll find a full bath, master bedroom (the Dune room), and 2nd bedroom (the Bermuda room). The Dune room features a seating area for two, walk-in closet, and direct bathroom access. Or wake up in the Bermuda room, where you can look out the window to Misty's pasture. Both rooms feature a queen-sized bed, television with streaming Wi-Fi player, ceiling fan, multiple windows, and charming ceiling lines.

The large screened porch features a ceiling fan and light and a table with chairs. Outside enjoy the long drive way with ample parking, the floral plantings, the deck, and the shower with hot and cold water.

Sans Souci is within walking distance to Captain Bob's Marina, Curtis Merritt Harbor (an excellent location to view a rocket launch off Wallops Island), a summer trolley stop, the area where the ponies come ashore after the pony swim, and the route used to herd the Chincoteague ponies to the carnival grounds during pony penning week in July. It's less than a mile from Memorial Park where visitors will find tennis courts, basketball courts, a playground that includes a huge wooden pirate ship, a skate park, a fishing/crabbing pier, ball fields, a boat ramp, a pavilion, and restrooms; about one mile from downtown shops; and about four miles from Assateague Island National Seashore/Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.

*These accommodations are located on a quiet, family-friendly cul-de-sac. If you are interested in a "party house," this is not the house/location for you.

About Lisa Via

We are a family of 5 living outside of DC. We have a 13-year-old boy and 6-year-old twin girls. Our son first visited Chincoteague when he was 2 months old. Our twin girls first visited when they were 1 month old, and we stayed for 2 months! Lucky girls!

Lisa Via purchased this house in 2003

Why Lisa Via chose Chincoteague Island

We chose Chincoteague because of its uniqueness and our long history of coming to the Island. Dad has been coming since childhood...about 40 years! And Mom has been coming for over 20 years. We love the small town atmosphere and the respect for nature and the beach shown by the residents and the visitors. We also love the strictly enforced 25 miles/hour speed limit on the entire island. It makes biking enjoyable and safe.

What makes this house unique

We chose our home because of the quiet surroundings and unique design. We love sitting on the large screened-in porch, whether it be in the morning having coffee listening to the distant gulls at the marina or in the evening sharing a drink with friends listening to the tree frogs. As parents, we especially love being able to watch our children from the porch safely playing in the large front yard and cul-de-sac. Of course, then there is what remains of Misty's pasture in the back where there's usually a pony or two grazing!

Very tidy and quiet.

  • 4 of 5

Modern, full of amenities for adults and kids. Screened in porch was a necessity for the buggy surroundings. Good directions for checking in and out, including local recommendations. Kind owners and neighborhood.

Very clean and updated! Lots of room and quiet area!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this San Souci. From the well stocked kitchen to the children's toys available for our young children, this was a great place to come back to after all that Chincoteague and Assateague have to offer!

Quiet, well equipped and comfortable

  • 4 of 5

Overall the place was great, well equipped and quiet for the kids. The house was pretty. Location was Relatively central to everything we wanted to do. The post it notes taped all over the house about how to use everything, were helpful but close to overbearing. We spent close to no time outdoors at the house because the mosquitos were awful, so the screened porch was vital. We bought charcoal and hamburgers to grill and never did because the mosquitos were so bad, even with bug spray.

Owner's Response: Laura, I'm sorry you found the notes on how to use the televisions and smart boxes with multiple remotes and how to ensure not clogging the water-saving toilets overbearing. Most find them helpful, and all were put up as results from inquiries from former guests. Reminders on the refrigerator are there to help ensure the house is maintained in its current condition for the enjoyment of future guests and to ensure that guests are aware of the requirements to receive their full security deposit without additional charges from our cleaners. I'm glad you enjoyed the rest of your vacation. Lisa

Delightful!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week's stay in this darling and immaculate rental. By August many beach rentals get to looking worn and tired...not this one! It's lovely! The decor is perfect for a beach house atmosphere and the kitchen has everything you'd ever need - and it seems like everything was new!

Everything was clearly marked with information needed for the stay and for operating AC, TV's, etc.

I would highly recommend a stay here!

Clean well equipped house.

  • 5 of 5

We loved our vacation at Lisa's house. The house was clean, well designed and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped for all of our cooking needs. The beach was beautiful. The children loved jumping in the waves and body surfing. We rented bikes and explored Islands many shops. We would love to make the trip again.

Great house in a quiet part of the island

  • 5 of 5

This was a great home base for a week in Cincoteague! Very spacious and comfortable, nice kitchen, comfy beds, and horses out back. The best part is the awesome screen porch which we used every evening. This is off the beaten path; but since the island is small everything is still close. All in all a great rental.
