Property type studio
Minimum Stay 4 - 7 nights

About the property

1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, full kitchen, A/C, 2 bikes & kayak, sleeps 3

Aloha, come and relax at our tropical Kailua home located in one of Kailua's finest neighborhoods. Kailua Beach hale is located across the street from the beach access (150 feet to the access and about 700 feet to the waters edge) to a quiet sandy section of Kailua beach. It is a great spot for boogie boarding and snorkeling. Use the kayak, boogie boards and snorkel gear to cruise Kailua bay. Towels and beach chairs provided. We also have two bikes for you to explore the area, just a mile to Kailua town. The hale has an open air design, with high ceilings and plenty of windows. The wall dividing the living room and the bedroom does not reach the ceiling as it is a high domed ceiling. It has a modern kitchen with dishwasher and a washer/dryer in the bathroom. Enjoy your coffee in a tropical garden area with comfortable chairs and patio table. We have just built a beautiful rock waterfall and pond that is wonderful to listen to while relaxing. The living room has a flat screen TV and DVD player with Cable TV, and free WiFi internet available. The living room also has a single size bench seat that can be used as a bed for 1 smaller person. A playpen is available for little ones. No sofabed. The unit has a common wall with the main house but against a storage area so you have complete privacy without feeling like you have a neighbor. You entrance and yard are on a separate street from the main house giving the cottage a feel of being on its own. Kailua is great for snorkeling, kayaking, biking, swimming, diving, windsurfing, boogie boarding, surfing, paragliding or enjoying a good book. The property is very private, fully gated and has 1 parking space and a private entrance. Being close to a popular beach you can hear some car noises during the day, although the beach is sparsley populated compared to Waikiki.

Kailua beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii. It has something for everyone. Kailua town has great restaurants, lots of shopping and is away from the Waikiki crowds. There are plenty of supermarkets close by for groceries. Our Kailua hale is conveniently located to enjoy all that Kailua has to offer.

Perfect for us!

  • 5 of 5

We are so glad we chose this round house to stay in. We were only on Oahu 5 days, and we still found ourselves calling it "home." The house itself is cute, clean, and comfortable. It felt roomy with just the two of us. And it's location is perfect--just a half block from a very quiet (but beautiful!) beach and a short bike or car ride from downtown Kailua. We found it had everything we needed--beach towels, a fully outfitted kitchen, a washer/dryer, snorkling gear (we didn't have to rent our own!), bikes, guidebooks to Oahu, etc. And we LOVED the garden! It felt so private. Think lots of tropical plants, a water feature (with fish!), and a private gate. We chose to stay in for several meals just so we could eat on our patio table and enjoy the space.

Lisa and Brett are lovely and generous hosts, too. They were so warm and welcoming, and Brett had great advice the first night when we were jet lagged and had questions about how best to spend our time on the island. At the same time, they were not intrusive at all, and we totally had our own space.

We did learn the hard way that when we were gone all day, we should leave the windows open to catch the breeze. But the AC was efficient for cooling us down. Plus, there were tons of fans and the garden was a great alternative hang out spot while the AC was doing its work.

We didn't want to leave. If we're ever back in Oahu, we'd rent this spot again in a heartbeat!

Clean, Bright, Tropical Hale

  • 5 of 5

This lovely hale is well-located in Kailua to enjoy a short walk to the beach or a bike ride to town. It is a bright and spacious studio layout with the bed separated from the main living area by a partial wall. There are lots of opening windows (all screened, so no worries about bugs) that allow for a cooling breeze. The hale has its own private garden area, large enough for a large water feature, BBQ, table with 4 chairs, 2 lounge chairs, and kayaks. There are also beach chairs, mats, boogie boards, and snorkel equipment available. The hosts, Lisa & Brett were very welcoming, kind, and professional, and it was a pleasure staying at their lovely hale. Mahalo!

Small and nice

  • 5 of 5

The accommodation was very clean and we felt very comfortable. It was very well equipped and it had everything you need.

The beach is directly across the street and in the garden there is a lot of equipment for the beach.

We can only recommend this property and would spend our holidays there again.

Noisy, old and poorly prepared

  • 2 of 5

This place is close to the beach across the road and down a few blocks to a beach park, but the cottage itself is dumpy old delapitated and in need of proper cleaning and modernising.

An aircon that has seen better days and that rattles away under a small table barely keeps the place cool enough to sleep. And you need to not notice the mould growing around the shower enclosure or the dirt encrusted blind shielding a window above the stove top.

All in all we were somewhat disgusted with the condition of the place considering the price, it sells for the price of a five star hotel room and yet is barely 2 stars. The owners were kind enough to refund three nights after they resold those nights when we cancelled our booking mid way through after we found better accommodation for which we were thankful. However it doesn't really detract from the disappointment of the condition of the property, just cleaning the place properly and giving it a paint job would improve it, the mould in the shower, the dirt encrusted window and blind above the cooktop, the BBQ that I found thick with the grease of prior cooking are all easy things to have clean and presentable. The rotting wood around the front door and other little signs of lack of care could all be made more presentable by a more diligent owner.

Owner's Response: Aloha prospective guests. This review is based on the fact that Malcolm had a place to stay for free and wanted to cancel before he ever even entered the cottage. Malcolm stated upon meeting me in the driveway that his friends offered him a place to stay for free and that they were actually going to go to the big island soon and wanted to cancel his stay. I told him that it was not possible to get a refund with no notice. He NEVER mentioned that they did not like the property in any way. He only said they really wanted to join their friends on the big island. We did renrent some of their stay and refunded those dates. We have 29 five star reviews and this one 2 star review which is purely out of anger on Malcolm's part for not getting his way. I do admit the cottage could use some touching up as we are close to the beach and we need to paint frequently. We last painted 14 months ago and will evaluate painting again in the next few months. We are sorry We could not make this guest happy as we always strive to give guests the best vacation retreat possible.
