SandCastle Beach Condo Vacation
We had the best time...our balcony was right over the pool plus you could see the ocean through the condos on the other side of the us. The place was prefect for the 6 of us...everything was in working order (we did change the light bulb on the stairs). Speaking of stairs-if you can't do them or don't really want to this is not the place for you... two bedrooms on top floor-it's a workout. The beach was clean and private (granted we were there during TS Alberto) and I am sure they had some cancellations...we rode it out and it was EXCELLENT! We are planning on staying there again soon. Can't wait...:) Eve May 2018

We enjoyed it very relaxing . But if you are looking to stay there please know you are off the grid . Not much going on there . Was good for us at the beginning then it got kind of boring
Dauphin Island quaint but not for our family....
Dauphin Island is a very quiet community with none of the hustle of the commercialized beaches. We ate at 3 restaurants on the island, food and service was great and never had to wait for a table. The 3 bedrooms plus 3 full bathrooms was a great feature of the condo especially for the reasonable price. Was nice that there were 2 pools and hardly anyone ever in them. However, there are some things we would have liked to have known before arriving at Dauphin Island. First, there is very little (if any) internet or cell signal on the island. The condo had no DVD player, only VHS so couldn't enjoy any family movies that we brought from home together (and choices of VHS at condo VERY limited.) The beach is extremely narrow and the water at Dauphin Island is very dirty...we thought this was due to Tropical Storm Cindy but found out from locals this is how the water is all of the time here. Everywhere you look, all you see are natural gas rigs which really takes away from the natural scenery and beauty we look forward to while at the beach. We even packed all of our stuff and went an hour and 45 minutes for 2 full days of our trip to Gulf shores in order to play in the clean ocean and sand. Although our trip was not a terrible experience, we will not be returning to Dauphin Island and will be paying the little extra and resuming our annual beach vacations to one of our regular spots like gulf shores or PCB or Destin. If you are looking for a quiet getaway with some good food, or to fish and not get in the ocean, or are ok just swimming in a pool (we have a pool at home so we like the ocean while away!), Dauphin Island may be a great option for your family.
This condo was spacious and the staff friendly. Everything was as stated in the description, including what to bring. Having three full bathrooms was a plus. Lots of stair exercise!
Dauphin Island has about 1500 year round residents. Dauphin Island is a quiet little town that does not have a stop light. We have great fishing, beautiful beaches, civil war Ft. Gaines, 165 acres of bird sanctuary with trails and a fresh water lake, an 18 hole golf course on the Gulf of Mexico, public beaches, fishing pier, bike path, marina, Indian Shell mounds, Estuarium/Sea Lab, AL Marine Conservation, FDA office, a couple of gas stations, great restaurants, unique gift shops, a seafood shop, a fitness center and then there is Ship N Shore our local grocery/hardware store.
