great place for a family reunion
The online description of this property is accurate. There was plenty of room for our family to hang out, eat together, and enjoy the amenities of the place, including 5 separate bedrooms on 2 levels and 2 separate outdoor spaces for relaxing. The community beach was a short walk, but it was very small (just about enough space for 1 family). However, the public beach at New Buffalo was wonderful, as was the beach at Warren Dunes, a few miles north. The kids loved the on site pool and the hot tub. The house itself is not new or fancy, but we enjoyed the relaxed feeling of the place. The location could not have been better with plenty of nearby restaurants, brewpubs, and shopping, as well as being close to other nice towns- we spent the better part of a day in St. Joseph- a little over 30 minutes drive away. We all agreed it was a great vacation.
My family of 10 adults and two small children rented the house for 5 days in August 2018.
First positives. The owner was flexible with check in/out. The pool was great in all ways. The kitchen was large with plenty of room to cook. We all fit around the dining room table and enjoyed several meals together. The home is spacious with many different areas for people to spread out. The private beach is just a short (2 minute) walk from the house (although not really private). Nice laundry facilities.
There were several disappointments, however. Most notable was on our arrival. The house smelled very musty and was considerably less clean than we expected. The refrigerator was dirty, glasses in the cabinet needed to be re-washed before use. Windows had significant cobwebs, and the back yard was dirty (and overgrown) with junk left behind from other users. There were dirty linens in a hamper in the laundry room. Several bathrooms had no toilet paper. The owner was contacted and stated that she meant to come over to freshen up before our arrival but forgot. Within a few hours a cleaning crew came and cleaned the refrigerator and yard.
This left us feeling a little nervous about our beds... were the linens really clean we wondered? In hindsight I'll say they probably were, but there was doubt that day. In fairness, many other areas of the house did feel clean, just overshadowed by what wasn't.
Decor is dated, although we didn't really care about that at all. Master bedroom bed was comfortable, but the 4 twin beds were reportedly very uncomfortable. Would likely be fine for kids, but questionable for adults. Towels were presumably clean but stained; many had holes. There were no wine glasses in the house and every cooking vessel except one small pot had severely scratched Teflon, which of course is not safe to cook with. I pointed this out on arrival but nothing was done.
The jacuzzi water was cloudy, adding an 'ick' factor. A service crew came on Saturday and told us it was off chemically, and even when adjusted, the water would stay cloudy. I asked if they'd empty and refill but the owner refused after being contacted, likely due to a cost.
My daughter dropped her knitting needle between sofa cushions and said it was pretty filthy in there when she reached in to fetch it.
Overall, would have been better if we knew what to expect.
Perfect location - great for a family gathering!
We enjoyed the hot tub, heated swimming pool, fire pit and spacious gathering places both outside and in the house. The artwork in the house is also worth noting.
Our grand kids (ages 1 1/2, 6, 8 and 12) and their parents all loved our week in Michigan. We walked to the downtown area, dined in the fabulous (and family-friendly) downtown New Buffalo restaurants, visited a nearby winery (also family friendy) and our adult kids made a trip to the casino - There was something for everyone!
Great space and super pool!
We enjoyed a wonderful week at Beach Gallery! It was our annual summer vacation with my 13 fam members -- 8 adults, 4 kids & a baby. The house was laid out wonderfully with lots of space - a full living room and sitting area upstairs and equally as much space downstairs. The kitchen and 3 bathrooms are all newly updated and spotless. We were so happy the dining table seated 8 and then we could seat the kids at either the breakfast bar or the table off the kitchen. We enjoyed night after night of family dinners! There were a lot of games on the shelves for the kids to play, but we didn't spend much time inside. The back had a GREAT pool. We couldn't keep the kids out! The hot tub was super as well. The house had a docking station for our iPod, which was great. The private beach is one house away down a short path. The beach, I'd say about 100 yards wide, is contained by rocks on either end. We wish it was a longer beach so that we could take walks. That was the only drawback. The house is close to town and we enjoyed frequent walks along the marina and to Oinks for ice cream. Overall is was a great week!
Small suggestion for owners -- we were regularly confused by the multiple remotes for the upstairs TV. Perhaps a print out with instructions left on the coffee table would help. Also, wasn't sure what all the buttons were for on the hot tub. Again - a small print out on how to change temp, turn on/off lights and also the jets would be nice. :). The owners were very responsive to any questions or issues we had while there, so I know they would appreciate the feedback!
Fabulous wedding weekend home!
We had a family wedding in the area last weekend and rented this property for relatives to stay for the festivities. The home is exactly as pictured, immaculately clean and comfortable. Pool, hot tub and fire pit made for outdoor fun despite cool Fall temperatures. Rent this home if you can get it and you will not be disappointed! Owner very available to show us how things worked at the home and to answer any questions. Best rental property we have ever booked.
this was the perfect house for our family reunion. came from NY, Colorado and Atlanta and everything was terrific, house was perfect when we arrive, super clean and new, all beds very comfortable, kitchen fully equipped, pool fabulous, hot tub inviting, and lake/beach a short 2 houses away down a little path.
Vanessa was great and responsive, we ran out of propane for the grill and a new tank was at our door step with an hour. all the beds were new and firm and very comfortable.she has a pack and play for the baby. the pool service came and cleaned the pool during the week but it was not really needed as the automatic cover works wonders to keep out leaves etc. great TV, great internet, cell phone service was not great but we were on vacation so no big deal. we really hope to come back again.
Set in the lovely Sunset Shores Community of New Buffalo, Michigan, just one house from the Private Association Sunset Shores Beach. Downtown New Buffalo is less than one mile.
