About Kari Barker
My name is Kari, as a girl I spent my summers here with my grandparents, enjoying the beauty of Northern Michigan while I worked with my grandpa around the homestead. Almost 30 years ago my grandparents were unable to keep the property due to health reasons and sold it to another family member, although I was glad it was still in the family I had always thought of it as mine. Then in 2006 my dream came true and I came home again! During the last year I have completely renovated the cottage and am excited about sharing the love I have for this place with others.
Kari Barker purchased this Cottage in 2006
Why Kari Barker chose Frankfort
My grandparents purchased this property in 1975, at that time is was in rough shape, yet they had a vision of what could be and turned their homestead into a Benzie County landmark. Before the new boat launch went in and the road was reconfigured, all anyone would have to say is 'the V property' and it was immediately recognized.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage is newly remodeled and is cozy, comfortable, quiet and beautiful. Although it is located just of of M-115 it is very quiet and almost remote feeling, except that you are centrally located in Benzie county and close to so many activities(boat launch, beaches, trails, fishing, skiing, and snowmobiling). As I furnished the cottage I put a lot of thought into what families or friends would want and need in a vacation home, and I wanted it to truly be a home away from home. With that in mind, all linens and towels are provided, there is a full kitchen with all dishware, pots and pans and utensils available. Paper products such as toilet paper, paper towels, napkins and food storage have been provided as well as charcoal for the grill. Pets are welcome! I believe this would be a comfortable place to stay for couples, families, skiers, fisherman and those who love the fall colors...all are welcome.

Exactly what we wanted
We stayed at this property for a quick weekend getaway. It was perfect location for relaxation and close enough to things to do. We did a day of hiking at Sleeping Bear Dunes and visited downtown Frankfort. The cottage was perfect for the two of us and had everything we needed. Kari was a great host and even surprised us with an awesome welcoming of cheesecake and flowers. We'd stay again.
Weekend in Frankfort!
This is such a cute place to stay! Clean and bright, it was like a hotel suite with more windows!! And close to towns I love to gift shop in. Lots of close fun places to drive to, lakes and beaches to explore. This place would be great for parents and a couple of kids to stay at and visit the area. Thanks so much!!
While working on our new home, we needed a place to relax and sleep after a long day. This home was simply lovely. We arrived to a special cake and pretty flowers for our new home. It was neat, clean and had everything we needed for a full week. We are so happy to find Michigan a place where people take pride in the work they do....simply lovely!!!!!
Nice cozy place.
Winter - Crystal Mountain
My girlfriend and I stayed here because of its proximity to Crystal Mountain. The home was clean, comfortable, and warm. I highly recommend this home.
Outstanding and exceeded expectations
Owners are friendly and the welcome will blow your mind. We went up for an anniversary weekend of snowshoeing with our dogs. We walked into a cottage that was clean, cozy, well equipped and inviting. There was an anniversary card, a dozen roses, and beautiful cupcakes for us to share; as well as fresh fruit snacks for our dogs. We could snowshoe to trails right from the house. We loved every second of our stay and can’t wait to go back.
Fifty yards from the new Crystal Lake boat launch, near the Platte and Betsie Rivers, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Frankfort/Elberta and Lake Michigan, Empire, Interlochen, Manistee and Traverse City. Surrounded by biking/hiking trails that provide access to the surrounding towns. Northern Michigan's famous Cherry Bowl Drive-in is within 6 miles and a terrific family experience!
