A perfect week in Woody Point with perfect views all day
This property was beyond our expectations. The house was spacious, with every attention to detail. The huge windows offered vistas of Gros Morne, Bonne Bay, and the surrounding nature. At night you can lie in bed and look at the constellations. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen supplied with every possible need and the location to the town very convenient. The driveway is steep, but so worth the elevation. We appreciated the neighbor welcoming us and introducing us to the property, and the owner writing a detailed description of where to eat, where to hike and top suggestions for the area. We loved watching the sunrises each morning with each one different and amazing, the cruise ship in the bay, and the wind in the flora that surrounds the house. We appreciated the owners concern for the care of the property. It also turned out to be a perfect time of year- no crowds, great weather, and endless opportunities to see an idyllic landscape.
A wonderful home away from home.
Our family of four spent two weeks at the wonderful modernly decorated home.
Sandy the owner and Lexi the property manager were very responsive to all our inquiries.
Lexi the property manager met us at the property to let us in , showed us around to familiarize us along with the dos and the don'ts.
The beds were so comfortable,
The kitchen had all we needed except for a microwave.
The bedrooms face the bay, if you get up early enough you can see a beautiful.
We did not have any issues getting up the long steep driveway.
We walked to town, it is small with a few shops, craft stores, cafe, grocery, hardware store.
Believe it or not you purchase Cod, Halibut and crab in the hardware store, flash frozen.
It was delicious, I grilled all on the BBQ on the deck while I watched for whales.
We picked up most of our groceries in Deer Lake on the way to this property.
This is truly a luxurious home to stay at in Gros Morne, 15 minutes from the Gros Morne Discovery Visitors Center, Lookout trail, Tablelands and Trout River coastal trail.
It is a 60 minute drive to the other side of the park near Rocky Harbor to get to the other visitor center and hiking trails
We did see Minke Whales in the bay from the Deck of this home as well as moose in the back yard.
I was wondering if two weeks would be two long a tiem her, it was not. I could have stayed longer.
Internet was fast and reliable, Cell phone coverage worked in the house and around town. when you get away from town, cell coverage very limited.
We did lots of hiking in the park.
Thank you Sandy for sharing your beautiful home with us, we truly enjoyed the time there as well as exploring the area.
You are a fantastic hostess sharing your home, We had a wonderful time.
Thanks SO much for the lovely review Vernon. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. Moose in the backyard and whales in the bay lucky you! Re: your comment about no microwave. We don't use one ourselves, but we have had a couple of renters point this out, so we will be purchasing one shortly. We hope you return one day. All the best.
We loved the views and proximity to many hiking trails. The house is cozy, and large enough so that all 3 of us could spread out when desired. The house is very tastefully decorated and furnished, with everything one could want except for a microwave.
Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Beautiful house and location!
So much has been said already in the prior reviews that mirror our experience, so I won’t repeat them. I’ll just add these comments:
The “outside is inside” feel of this house is what makes this property a standout. No matter where you are in the house, there will be a vista of either Gros Morne Mountain and Bonne Bay or the mountain behind. The light filtering in – day or night – is a special experience.
The location is perfect for this southern section of Gros Morne National Park. You are situated perfectly for exploration of the Tablelands, Green Gardens and Trout River. Being just outside of charming Woody Point, restaurants are easily accessible and there are other pleasures including hanging out on the back porch of Galliot Studios or taking in some music in an evening. We could easily have stayed for an additional week!
One of the reasons for the great views is that the house is situated up a hill. The unpaved gravel driveway is rather steep and curving. It may take a few drives uphill in low gear to get the hang of it without spinning the tires. In the information sheet for the house, you are requested (not obligated) to smooth out any sections where the tires have created any ruts.
If you are an internet user while on vacation, I would suggest discussing your usage expectation with the owner in advance.
The owner was responsive and reasonable in all of our communications. The property manager who lives very close by was available too for any questions and was friendly and helpful. When our luggage was delayed, the property manager suggested that it would be easier for the courier to deliver the luggage to their house which turned out to be around 10:30PM; the property manager brought the luggage right over to us – it was much appreciated.
Thanks Margie for the wonderful review of our Woody Point home. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay. Re the internet, we are no longer connected to a satellite turbo hub. We have recently installed a DSL internet line which gives renters unlimited usage.
As well we have recently improved our driveway and there is no longer a need to fill in any "ruts".
All the best, we hope to see you again!

Amazing place in so many ways!
We were blessed with unseasonably consistent good weather for our week stay. We were immediately impressed with house, the amazing view, the quality of the house and its furnishings. Everything was perfect! The photos do not do the site justice - the view is nothing short of spectacular! ...and the people in Woody Point - starting with the caretaker and extending to everyone in the town - are so warm, welcoming and charming. We had a lovely week in this gorgeous place with full knowledge that we were at the most elegant home in the area.
We selected this house solely on the pictures on the website and it was everything we could have expected and so much more. First, the house is beautiful-clean, modern, comfortable, and well thought out design. But it is the views from the floor to ceiling glass walls that make it exceptional-whether it is watching the sunrise or sunset or staring at the bay during the day. It is also very convenient to great hiking as well as quaint towns. Gros Morne National Park is an amazing adventure and this is the perfect place to base your stay. I would (and already have) recommended it to others and hope to get back there next summer.
Villa by the Ocean is located in Gros Morne, Newfoundland. Watch whales and dolphins in the bay from your front deck. Explore nature, and discover moose, caribou, deep fjiords and rare arctic plants as you hike along some of the most beautiful trails in the world. The Tablelands and Trout River just 20 minutes away. A short 10 minute walk from the house is the charming fishing village of Woody Point. Home to 400 residents, it's a quaint artsy town with a lot of character. There you can find restaurants, art, music, theatre and some genuine east coast culture, home to many music and cultural festivals.
