About Ruth McCarty or Gladys Johnson
We purchased this property because of it's natural beauty. It has total privacy but is only about ten minutes from the lovely historically preserved town of Annapolis Royal. So you have the best of both country and town. We have remodeled the two story barn buiding into a lovely brand new one bedroom property with decks and fantastic views to the water. You need to climb one set of steps so not handicap accessible.
Ruth McCarty or Gladys Johnson purchased this Cottage in 2007
Why Ruth McCarty or Gladys Johnson chose Annapolis, Subd. A
We fell in love with the river flowing by, the constant breeze, the birds and seals, the wild roses, the peace, tranquility, and the wonderful little frog pond.
What makes this Cottage unique
You take a dirt road thru wild roses and trees and marsh to the property which is located on the Annapolis River at it's widest point. It is therefore called a lake and the address is Lake View Avenue. You have easy access to Annapolis Royal, Bear River, Digby,Wolfville, Grand Pre, Kedjimikujik National Park, the French Shore, Whale Watching on Digby Neck and many other things too numerous to mention. Great little spot!
Nice little getaway for the long weekend! We hoped for better weather, but made the most of it! We loved the Annapolis Royal farmers' market on Saturday morning, checked out some parks and historic sites nearby, and made use of the fire pit!
Peaceful setting with a great view of the river
We enjoyed the location of the place. The apt was clean and comfortable. The owners were quick to respond to any question we had.
Awesome
I was visiting from British Columbia. My son lives in Halifax. We had a wonderful weekend getaway. My only complaint was that it wasn't longer! We will return!
We loved how private it was. It was great for my son's dog.
We spent a fair bit of time swimming in the River. We also biked into Annapolis Royal-a lovely spot!
The cabin was perfect-everything we needed. We went to Parkers Cove for seafood and enjoyed dinners at the cabin. It was well equipped and very clean!
Everything was as stated on the website. Ruth was very helpful when I called her about a couple of things.
We will return!
I would recommend this retreat to any of my friends.
Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks so much Valerie. I'm glad we got the dock finished so you could swim. Your son is certainly welcome whenever he can get a break from his studies and get away from the city for a bit. Look forward to meeting you next time. We need to pursue a home exchange. Thanks for the kind words. Ruth
Lovely Spot
We enjoyed a wonderful weekend here. The cottage was clean, comfortable and well equipped. The location on the river is beautiful and serene. The location is not far from amenities in Annapolis Royal, while still offering the quiet getaway we were looking for. Morning coffee on the deck was perfect. The fall foliage in the area was stunning, and we had a wonderful hike at Delap's Cove. Ruth provided wonderful customer service, answering all my questions in a timely and friendly manner. It is very obvious they aim to please. We will certainly recommend this property, and are planning to come again next summer.
Hi Jennifer. So glad you had a chance to relax and enjoy your stay. We hope to see you next summer. Thanks for the kind words.
Very comfortable property
This is a nice quiet apartment a few minutes drive from the quaint and lovely little town of Annapolis Royal. The garden stretches down to the river, and is private. There is minor road noise from the main road, but otherwise it is a place to enjoy peace and quiet.
There is a lot of information about visitor attractions nearby for you to browse through, which was very helpful.
So glad you got to stay in our corner of the world. Thank you.
Great cottage choice :)
Gorgeous property. We have a lovely stay. Our dogs were able to run free with no fear of cars. Swimming in the river was fantastic, numerous things to do and eat nearby. Highly recommend it .
Did the dogs swim too? That's a problem if you have a swimmer...they are constantly jumping in the river. Glad you had a lovely visit.
Location
Annapolis Royal is the second oldest permanent settlement in North America, settled in 1605. St. Augustine, Florida, is first (Spanish). The English built Fort Anne and the French built Port Royal, both National HIstoric Sites that can be visited. It's fun to roll down the ramparts at Fort Anne. Nearby is an old graveyard and the Graveyard Tour by Lantern is fun and educational as well. One of Champlain's men is buried here. At the time the French owned all the way to Philadelphia. Strolling thru town you will see beautiful preserved Victorian homes and inns. Wonderful restaurants in all price ranges are all within the walking area. The boardwalk along the river from Fort Anne to the lighthouse and King's Theater is a wonderful spot to meander. The Farmers Market is on Saturdays and Wednesdays, featuring not only locally grown produce but also many fine craftsmen, potters, artists, weavers, jewelry makers. Across from the market is the working boat haulout. Further along is O'Dell House a historic house of the l800's. Across Parker Mountain are the various working lobster wharfs. Here you can buy fresh lobsters, scallops, fish, dulse. or purchase cooked lobsters to take on a picnic. I own a Victorian home overlooking the wharf where you can picnic. Digby is nearby with it's famous scallop fleet. Bear River, featured in New York Times, is built on stilts and has a fantastic nationally known gallery with huge collection of artists. Retaurants here also are built on stilts due to the tidal surges in the river. Further south is the French shore and you are welcomed to try their famous Rappie Pie, which takes 24 hours to make. The Dewlaps Wilderness Trail and the Historic Gardens are both nationally famous and worth a visit. Upper Clements Park is an old time amusement park, wooden roller coaster, lots of grass and water, rides for all ages, music every day. This year they've added an adventure park with zip line designed by a French expert. Swimming and canoeing and kayaking are available at all the many lakes. Better yet, just relax at home and enjoy the gardens and river.

Cancellation policy: 50% refund if canceled within 7 days before arrival. More than 7 days cancellation there is a full refund. Pets are welcome but there is a cleaning fee of 25 dollars. We have had to start charging for pet cleaning this year due to prior problems. We are rescue dog owners and hope you will understand. The aim of the Tree House Cottage is total relaxation and fun. Peace and quiet while there and an amazing amount of things to do and see in the area if you so chose. This is a place to "get away from it all", therefore there is not any tv or internet. So far everyone has been quite happy without it. There is a landline telephone. We look forward to your stay and will do all we can to make your vacation totally enjoyable and stress free. Thank you.
