Christy or Josh Combs purchased this house in 2011
We fell in love with Norris Lake while on vacation several years ago. We decided to take the plunge and buy a vacation home for ourselves. After a couple of years of looking for the perfect plot of land (and saving every penny), we happened to stumble upon this house while driving around on a rainy day. This house was far from perfect but the amazing views, accessibility to boat ramp and highway and easy access to the water made it too good to pass up. We have spent the past year trying to incorporate everything we have loved and/or missed about previous rentals into our home.
The most amazing views on Norris Lake
Easy access to water (no stairs), gentle sloping hill (~50 yards?)
Industrial Ice machine (no more daily runs for ice)
Cell phone service
Decks on every level front and back
This house is great for the famiy, gently sloping concrete path to the dock, amazing mountain views and access to the best watersports water in TN. The Ice machine is great along with the 2nd sink and seating in the basement. We bring our family and Friends to this house multiple times per year. Great vacation spot!
This home has one of the best views on the lake!! We have been coming to Norris Lake for 15 years or better. We have our own place at Lake Cumberland but Norris offers us a true boating vacation. So every year we rent either a float house or a home with a dock. We chose this home because of the advertised gentle slope to the water and the 5 bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths. Extra space for everyone in our group.
Upon arrival I quickly noticed this home hasn't been kept up to what we are used to from other rentals we have stayed in. The front door area was dirty and in need of a clean up and or repair. The fridge needed wiped out and the table cloth was dirty with stains and what looked like pet hair. As our family arrived everyone was noticing things here and there that need attention. Lots of spider webs with bugs stuck in them behind the basement sofa. The dust bunnies behind furniture with hair stuck in them. Ok so not so clean we will get over it. After unpacking we went to sit out on the porch and the chairs were unusable due to being dry rotted ripped and the cushions for the wicker stored in the bin were soaked and full of mildew. well lets turn on the tv. Well the satellite wasn't working. ok hey lets go the hot tub. Well the lid was very smelly from mildew at some point. so maybe not. I called the owner. No return call. Ok lets go to bed. I get up after an hour to check the thermostat. Well take a very bad fall down the wooden steep steps with only 8 inch treads. So day one not so good. The next day I call the owners he did call me back. I will say he offered to drive to us from cincy and was there very prompt to help fix our issues. He brought new chairs checked the hot tub fixed the satellite tv. He wasn't to happy with the whole situation. But he did the best he could for us. A little attitude to go along with it. Which was not appreciated. We are the renters with an issue. But my brother inlaws had a nice chat with him and got him settled down. He did apologize.
So with all that being said the owner did try to do his best for us. He said he has had a great run with this home until this year and has had 5 complaints. So where are those reviews. Future renters need be informed. Hopefully some good spring cleaning will be done next year before the full rental season gears up. The cleaning lady could have done a better job but with 5 hours to do a turn around the details get missed that need done once or twice a year.
House layout was great, plenty of room for our group to sleep and relax. The dock was really nice too. Ice machine was very useful for coolers on the boat, nice!! Driveway a bonus, made it easy to park and store trailers.
The reason I only gave it 3 stars, is because the house really could use a deep cleaning, base boards and floors not very clean.
If you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy a spectacular view, then this is the spot for you! My family and I enjoyed a week boating, rafting, and enjoying the view from the rear deck and patio. The owners have provided everything you need....comfortable beds and enough room for 5 children and six adults. There are also areas in the house where you can sit and read, play cards, or work jigsaw puzzles. The kitchen makes cooking easy. You'll never need ice because there is an industrial ice maker on the ground floor......also a hot tub to relax in. All the furnishings are designed for your comfort. If you have any concerns, the owner quickly responds; she also sends timely information before your stay.
The kids enjoyed the day boating on the lake and going to the zip line. Nice grocery store is close by. We'll be back!
We love this house! The locations is wonderful. We put our boat in at the public ramp which is great and the house is right across from it. The view of the mountains and the lake is beautiful. The house is the perfect size for our group of 8 and has everything you need. We had a wonderful weekend again and will be returning when available.
This property is more than just AMAZING vacation rental; it's an unforgettable vacation experience. Pride of ownership is evident throughout the interior and exterior of the home. The owners really went out of their way to pay attention to every detail. The house itself is beautiful, extremely well equipped and oh, so comfortable. The lake is deep and clean - perfect for boating, swimming, tubing, boarding and fishing - right off the dock and everywhere else we went on the lake. The outside space is everything you want it to be and more. We spent many relaxing nights just sitting by the fire listening to the sounds of the lake. We even got an amazing video of a baby deer SWIMMING across the lake. You know you have first world problems when the biggest complaint during the week came from the 4 yr old who could not figure out which bathroom to use because there were "too many." The owner could not have been nicer or more helpful. Our only regret is not booking a longer stay.
Near many national parks, including the Cumberland Gap National Park, Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg.
