About Linda Olson
I love to travel and have stayed in vacation rental by owner properties in many places in the US as well as international locations.
Why Linda Olson chose Hawthorne
My inspiration for Ladds cottage was to create the quintessential Portland guest house experience in my home for the enjoyment and comfort of people visiting our fair city.
Cute house in a nice neighborhood
We enjoyed our stay at Ladd's Cottage. It was in a nice, quiet neighborhood not too far from the things we wanted to do in Portland. We found a great Thai restaurant, The Farmhouse Kitchen, nearby.
Charming house in great location
This house was perfect! We went with another couple and had tons of room for us to each have plenty of privacy - much bigger than we thought it would be. The location was ideal and we were able to walk to many bars and restaurants. Would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it.
Great place, great location!
This is a wonderful house, full of Portland charm, great kitchen, comfortable beds, quiet and comfortable living room with gas log fireplace.
The house was perfect!
The house was Perfect! There was plenty of room for 4 adults and 3 dogs. The house was fully stocked with everything we needed. The neighborhood is great and a quick walk to grocery, coffee, restaurants, taprooms and breweries. The street parking could be a little tricky, but we managed fine with a large truck. The fenced yard worked great for the dogs. We will definitely stay here again.
Beautiful location, very nice home
This home is located in a charming area. The bathroom and kitchen facilities are new and really clean. If you like old Portland, this is perfect for you.
Charming house in beautiful neighborhood and fit our needs.
All rooms were clean and comfortable. It does need some TLC though. Cobwebs on the ceilings, stairs to basement narrow and steep, plaster peeling from ceilings, sloppy paint job on windows, baseboards and other places. Faint mildew smell in basement. Backyard not very inviting - covered with mats and rugs and the only access from the house is through a bedroom. The door from the kitchen to the backyard is unuseable. Does the fireplace really work? We never did find the key for it. There were two sets of instructions with conflicting information re cleanup, garbage day etc. Despite all that, I would stay there again. The price was right, dogs are allowed, there were 4 separate beds, kitchen was well equipped, the neighborhood felt safe, and stores, shops and bus line were close. Some repairs and sprucing up would make it a real charmer and I’d give it a 5.
The home is vintage from 1925, so it will not look like a brand new home. It is professionally cleaned after each guest. The patio furniture has been put away because of rain. The patio is very usable in good weather with a dining table and chairs and outdoor wicker chairs for lounging also a bbq. There is access to the patio through a door at the kitchen as well as the bedroom .
The fireplace really works and very well at that, a guest had lost the key as I explained to this guest and a replacement had been ordered, it arrived just fter this guest left.
We have been renting for 3.5 years and no one has commented on the paint in the windows.
A dog of a recent guest scratched the baseboards and they have been repainted.
Although this guest had a lot of comments that also said they would return, so it must have been suitable for them.
