We are a family of five that have lived in the canyon since 1973.We love to share the unique environment with visitors.
Aaron purchased this Cabin in 2011
Why Aaron chose Carmel-by-the-Sea
This property is close to both Big Sur and Carmel it is truly best of both worlds. Many of the VRBO'S in Big Sur are off dirt roads a bonus of this cabin is it is on a paved road. The cabin is far enough off the road not to see any cars.

Perfect weekend getaway!
Great spot for a long weekend with my boyfriend and dog. :) No frills, but we loved using the grill and the outdoor tub. Lots of hiking nearby and quick drive to the beautiful coast.
Idyllic, peaceful retreat
I absolutely couldn’t imagine a better place to stay. The cabin gets so much light despite being surrounded by redwoods. The clearing in front of the cabin means you can watch hawks soar overhead while enjoying the outdoor tub. The cabin was clean and cozy. It was a cold February weekend but the heater worked extremely well so we were toasty the whole time. The bed was really comfortable. I wouldn’t change a thing. We are ready to go back!
Place is as described, but please read for what was not mentioned
Bottom line up front - we arrived at the cabin and left within 20 min to go get a hotel because it was so awful. While the cabin was as described in the description there were some things about it that we didn't understand.
We had rented this cabin for two nights and were looking forward to some relaxation and privacy. We immediately noticed two things upon arriving 1) it didn't feel private at all as there were no window coverings... no blinds, drapes, anything!, 2) the mattress was very very soiled with blood and who knows what other kinds of bodily fluids. We left a note for the owner with our complaints but never heard back from him with any sort of acknowledgement... I'm guessing we'll here from him once this is posted.
Our other two complaints are of a lesser degree, but worth mentioning. 1) water in the tub was yellow. We didn't have time to bathe but turned it on to see if the water was warm... it was. 2) the location of the cabin wasn't as secluded as we had thought. Perhaps we didn't read closely enough about the proximity to another house, but there was a house probably 150-200 feet away, which made us uncomfortable primarily because there were no window coverings.
I'm sure this place will work for some people, but with the mattress soiled like it was it's hard to imagine anyone with this knowledge choosing to sleep there. In fairness to the owner, the setting is beautiful and the description provided is honest.
I’m very sorry these folks didn’t call or email us,had they done so we would have explained the staining on the mattress was from a leak in the skylight. The skylight is framed in redwood which causes staining which is also why the water has a tint to it,these people arrived during rainy weather which stirs up the water and can make for discolored water. The water is clean and safe.
We don’t have curtains on the window because there is NOBODY AROUND!!Yes there is a Cabin bellow but it is blocked from view with bamboo and trees, you cannot see a thing from either cabins.
Our cleaner did not give us a note, perhaps because the Cabin didn’t need cleaning for sometime after their checkout and she must of accidentally tossed it.It’s unfortunate these folks didn’t call us!!
As one can see from our reviews this Cabin is very much enjoyed but some people are better off staying in hotels. We may start interviewing people befor they rent to make sure a woodsy experience is for them.
I do wonder if these people only stayed for 20 minutes how and why did they strip the bedding down take off the mattress pad and inspect the mattress then run the bath to make sure there’s hot water??I guess they were looking for problems, could of just called and asked for a refund if the Cabin was not to your satisfaction!!
For future guests please call us or email we live in the same neighborhood as the Cabin only 15 minutes away and we’re happy to stop by and do our best to fix any problems that arrive!
Great location, beautiful stay
The cabin was really charming in a secluded area in Carmel, really close to Big Sur. There were a couple of things that could improve, a more comfortable couch, the bars on the futon hurts after sitting for awhile. It rained really heavily during my stay and the skylight was leaking, onto the foot of the bed. The WIFI signal was really bad, but I guess it comes with the territory of being in a secluded place :)
A Beautiful Escape!
We stayed over NYE last week and loved Casa Pequeno! My wife and I had our seven and five year olds with us and, while cozy, fun for the adults and kids. Our family is okay in close quarters. The cabin is made very well with beautiful wood. Do DEFINITELY take advantage of the outdoor bath and shower! At night. Under the stars. Also, be sure to take a hike up the trail behind the cabin to discover all the quirky things hidden directly behind the cabin, and all the way up the trail to the long-ago forgotten house foundation still there. Very quiet, very peaceful and a lot of fun.
Wonderful cabin in the woods with a great outdoor bathtub
We loved the setting of the cabin. Waking up in the middle of the forest. Very quiet. Superbe star gazing in the outdoor bathtub. Only drawback: The built in loft bed is not suited for two people. It is way too close to the pitched roof. Fine for one person though.
The Big sur,Carmel and Monterey peninsula area is famous for its wildlife and natural beauty. Some call Big sur the greatest meeting between land and sea.Carmel has beautiful white sand beaches and outstanding shopping.Monterey is known for the world famous Monterey bay aquarium, cannery row and storied past.
