About Maddalena

Italian-German couple, living and working in between Long Island and New York City.

Maddalena purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Maddalena chose Hamptons

We bought this property because of it’s unique access to the beach, nature and wildlife out in Long Island as well as it being low maintenance and the perfect distance to the city.

What makes this cottage unique

We love our place, because it let’s us enjoy the tremendous beauty and strength in every season of the year. Spring opens with the flowering of large Magnolia trees. We swim the Little Peconic Bay from May to November and the Ocean Beaches turn Caribbean in June, July and August. September is a magnificent month with the clearest air and skies. The Japanese Maples set the tone for Autumn with their golden red colors while winter gives us beautiful snow to cross country ski and go for long walks. Seasonally we utilize the hammocks in the garden and the open fire place to warm our bodies and souls. Our adjoining living room with the open fire place and large kitchen with a communal table and a couch are made to entertain family and friends and are surrounded by windows that make you feel like you are in the middle of Nature. One of our favorite things is being able to go for a walk at any time of the day or night, be mesmerized by a glorious sunset or blown through by the winter storm on the beach and return to a warm and cozy house.

Very nice, quiet airy house.

We rented this house for a week in September, and we were very happy.

The kitchen is very good, all the finishing on the house is very good, and the garden is lovely. It is lovely to just sit outside in the hammock as the sun is going down.

The beach which is a 5 minute stroll across the grass is very quiet.

Awesome Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved this property!!!! Everything about it was welcoming, fresh, comfortable and a perfect fit for us and our two teenagers. The owners, Maddalena and Jurg, were exceptionally accessible and accommodating, and just so darn nice! They met us at the house and made sure we were completely settled in and oriented. The property is so well situated - just a 2-3 minute walk to a lovely private beach, and a short drive to Southampton and Sag Harbor. When we could tear ourselves away from this wonderful and well-equipped home, we easily drove to paddle boarding (I would highly recommend Global Boarding in Sag Harbor for all your water activities - the owner Cat is awesome!) , a wildlife refuge, Sag Harbor, a wonderful farm stand just around the corner, a vineyard on the north fork, the ferry to Shelter Island -- all in just 4 days! We have rented successfully through VRBO many times, and I would have to say this was our best experience.

Owner's Response: It's been such a pleasure to have Anne L. and her family staying with us. It was very easy communicating with them, they respected all the house rules and left our place in excellent shape, like if it was their own home. It made us very happy to see them make use of the beautiful nature surrounding us with lots of outdoor activities. We can highly recommend them as your renter and we are looking forward to accomodate them soon again.

Lovely spot, friendly owners, well equipped house - great stay

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for a long weekend in April and found this a great base for exploring the area. Lots to see and do nearby and some great restaurants to be found - and lovely to be able to take a walk along the beach from the house (shame people drive on the beach though - somewhat spoils the effect!). Well equipped kitchen, plenty of room and a garden for the kids to run around in. Great comms with the owners. Would recommend.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure to have Chris and his family staying with us. They are very good at communicating and following the house rules. They left the house in excellent shape. Unfortunately during the off season people can drive on any beach, but it's not allowed during the summer season, making our beach one of the biggest sandy private beach on the bay side.

Girls weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

We loved loved loved this property! Our host, Maddalena, was very responsive and accommodating. That house was in spotless condition when we arrived, with all fresh sheets and towels laid out. The house was beautifully decorated – can tell that artists live there! We slept well on the high-quality pillows and bedding. We loved the antiques throughout the house and the professional kitchen – stove and griddle were amazing. It was a very short walk to the bay beach and even though it was cold we enjoyed the sunset on the bay and collecting the beautiful rocks along the shore. We saw a couple of osprey in their nest right near the house (along beach). We found so much to do in South Hampton and surrounding areas and Maddalena pointed out some areas not to miss during the couple of days that we had. All of the instructions were very easy to follow. I would definitely return and rent this beautiful home again. Thanks so much Maddalena and Jorg!

A Perfect Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the charming home of Maddalena and Jorg. We found them to be lovely hosts, who greeted us when we arrived and even helped carry in our bags. Amazing. The house is spotlessly clean and "together" in every sense; from the amazingly equipped professional kitchen, to the internet/tv connection, right down to the users' manuals for all the appliances. We think the house is even more charming than the pictures indicate. The decor and the ambiance of the house give the clear impression of someone's much beloved home. The house, however, isn't even the best part. We chose this property due to its access to the private beach. A stroll through the old, original estate is as pleasant as it is brief; in short order one finds himself crossing the bridge over the creek to arrive upon the pristine, imminently peaceful beach. The greatest annoyance we had while basking and swimming was the occasional call we heard from a nest of juvenile osprey. Maddalena steered us to the local markets that were all excellent. We shopped for fresh food, we cooked, we drank, we swam and we slept in welcomed silence. The house is literally on a dead end road that is, in fact, near the end of another dead end road. We found the setting quiet without feeling like we were isolated. The drives to local provisions or shops was never more than 10 minutes. We very much enjoyed our stay and can recommend this property most highly. We found the owners to be people of warmth, sincerity and integrity.
