About the property

Peaceful and Private – Snail's Pace Chalet – Pigeon Forge TN

Quiet, Peaceful, Private. Two large master suites + 2 loft bedrooms - private bathroom with each and two with indoor Jacuzzi tubs. Three levels of living space make this home Spacious and Comfortable. Two gas fireplaces, TVs and VCRs in every room, Air Hockey, Outdoor Hot Tub, Large Gas Grill. Everything you could possibly need in our well-stocked kitchen and baths.

Snail’s Pace was built in 2007 atop Hickory Ridge and overlooking Bluff Mountain. It is located inside Shagbark, a gated 1300 acre nature preserve. The cathedral tongue and groove ceiling gives the home a unique feeling of spaciousness. The 10-foot ceilings throughout the remainder of the house continue that feeling. All of the woodworking was handcrafted by the home’s builder.

As remote as our vacation home is, it’s amazingly close to all of the fun, shopping, and entertainment of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Area attractions are virtually endless with something for just about every taste. Dollywood is only 8 miles from Snail’s Pace and it’s but a 20-minute drive to the Smokey Mountain National Park.

About Stephanie Reese

Paul and Stephanie live in Atlanta. Stephanie is originally from Kentucky and used Pigeon Forge as a likely half way point to meet family. They both love Bluegrass music and are always looking for festivals or just street musicians in Gatlinburg. Paul likes cars and enjoys the rod runs along the Parkway.

Stephanie Reese purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Stephanie Reese chose East

Years before building Snail's Pace, we rented a friend's home in Shagbark and fell in love with the area. Every time we came back we looked for a vacation home to buy. Never finding quite what we were looking for, we decided to buy a piece of land and build instead. Our builder was well known in Shagbark so we waited until he finished a $1M + custom home to have him start ours. He was truly a craftsman, as can be seen from the work he did on Snail's Pace. The tongue-and-groove cathedral ceiling is gorgeous. All of the woodwork and crown molding were hand-crafted.

What makes this cabin unique

Snail's Pace is an oasis where the hectic, fast-paced life can be left at the doorstep. As soon as you step over the threshold and into the game room you can feel the tension ease out of your body. When you first catch site of the cathedral ceiling and wall of windows overlooking Bluff Mountain from the second story you will let out a 'Wow'. Climb the stairs to the third floor and look down on the great room from the loft and feel the spaciousness of the house.

Snail's Pace was everything we dreamed it would be!

This cabin was the most beautiful cabin we've stayed in. It was spotless when we arrived and everything was just as promised. The owners have impeccable taste and the Christmas tree and decor were a nice surprise. All instructions sent prior to check in were very clear and easy to understand.

The area is very peaceful and serene and the people at Shagbark were friendly and made us feel welcome.

There is so much to do in the area and it's just a quick trip down the mountain to get wherever you want to go.

The kids, young and old, really enjoyed the game room and the full size air hockey table was a huge hit. The game room is a different level than the kitchen so the adults can have their own space.

Beds were ultra comfortable and the kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked.

We can't wait to go back to Snail's Pace!

Very clean, comfortable, roomy, cabin.

This was a very nice cabin. We have ca me to this area for over 10 years, and again this was one of the better cabins. Lots of room. Large rooms with lots of extra sleeping such as mattresses, pull outs, futons. Everything was clean and tidy. Bathrooms, and showers were exceptional. Beds were comfortable. Easy to find the cabin, but hill was steep. After first trip up, you learned to give the car more gas.lol Loved this cabin, and would recommend to anyone. Thanks for letting us stay!

Mountain Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

Snail's Pace is truly a perfect cabin for a base in Pigeon Forge. It was stocked with anything you would ever need and there was plenty of space on the 3 levels. The bathrooms are very spacious and the double showers were great for bathing our 2 grandsons together. Our Michigan daughter-in-law was taken aback by the driveway but it didn't bother her that much by the time we left. The boys enjoyed the game room and community pool. Stephanie was very helpful when upstairs a/c went out as she had repairman there the next morning and was fixed by 10 AM. The only negative is the drive to and from Pigeon Forge as it is a slow 8 miles to Hwy. 411, but when you get there you don't won't to leave. You won't be disappointed if you choose to stay at Snail's Pace.

Awesome family reunion destination!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from Snails Pace yesterday and can't begin to tell you what an amazing experience we had. The cabin itself was absolutely beautiful and spacious. There were 12 of us and we each had so much individual space. As a family of 12 we spent many hours eating in the kitchen, playing games, rocking on the porch, relaxing in the whirlpool, cooking on the grill, watching funny movies and sleeping comfortably. The owner Stephanie was always in direct contact when needed. The extra touches she has added to her cabin really make the environment so welcoming. The housekeeping staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. They left the house spotless for us. I would definitely return and recommend this place to anyone who is looking to travel to Pigeon Forge, TN.

As for the day and evening entertainment, the drive is only about 15-30 minutes away in either direction depending on your needs. Once you get the hang of driving up and down the mountain you will see how convenient things are located.

The only thing I have to say about driving up and down is brace yourself if your afraid of heights. Snails Pace is located very high up. That height though allows you a view and a feeling of tranquility that words can't describe. Do what I did and keep your eyes closed as you drive up. LOL

PS. A black bear came out to visit us one day, so follow the rules when it comes to food in cars and locking up garbage and vehicles accordingly. :)

Other than this thanks to Stephanie and VRBO for helping us create memories that will last a lifetime.

LOVED this cabin!

  • 5 of 5

The many reasons we loved our visit and why you will too!

1. The location is great! Close enough yet far enough away from the main attractions of Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge. The community is gated and private, and you're not looking out the windows and staring at a neighboring cabin... The closest cabins were driving distance. It was awesome!

2. The layout of the house was really well thought out. A full Master bedroom & bath on both the first & second floors, and on the 3rd floor, two bedrooms with a Jack & Jill bath. Each floor has a wrap around outside deck! Not to mention a hot tub, air hockey table and foosball table on the first level. On the second level is the kitchen area, a guest bathroom, and out on the deck, a gas grill and some rocking chairs.

3. The Master Bathroom showers were a favorite of all! It made bathing the kiddos a walk in the park. I'm pretty sure we will be renovating our bathroom at home now to replicate this shower!

4. The little "extras" that make a difference: Bath & Body Works hand soap and body wash in all bathrooms. Nice thick bath towels & wash rags, blow dryers, dish soap, laundry detergent, etc. I'm sure i'm missing something, but all these extras made our lives easier!

5. The cabin was clean, well kept and nicely organized, and you could tell the owners take pride in their rental home.

6. The owner was very receptive and responds quickly. She was very easy to work with, kind and helpful.

I will say this... coming up the driveway for the first time was nothing short of a white knuckle door grabbing, imaginary brake pumping mini heart attack for me. HOWEVER, you will get used to it. I would suggest turning off your AC (if in the summer months) to help your car get up the mountain. It is an awesome workout to walk down and back up the drive if you've got it in you.

Rent this cabin, you will not be disappointed!!
