About the property

Big Pine Cabin sits on 5 acres of wooded land on a mountainside and is bordered by The Roosevelt National Forrest in the Big Thompson Canyon. Known for it's breathtaking views of rock out cropings, pine trees, wildflowers, the Big Thompson River and of course the wildlife.Big Pine Cabin is only 4 miles from downtown Estes Park,so you can enjoy all that town has to offer and find peace and quiet here when you tire of the crowds. The Big Thompson is the home of the Big Horn Sheep which can be seen off the roadway looking for nibbles of grass, keep your eyes open and camera's ready! Elk like the one featured in the picture right off our deck pass through our yard on the way to the river for a drink as well as deer and other wildlife. As a guest of Big Pine Cabin you have access to our private property on the Big Thompson River,(approx. 100 yards from our door to the stairway envision a standard football field)that leads down to the river.Early morning is a perfect time to fly fish (we do have a few standard fishing poles and a tackle box but the more seasoned fisherman usually bring their own.)You may choose to enjoy your morning coffee on the deck as you listen to the birds sing the sun up through the trees you may see several hummingbirds sipping the nectar off the flowers, just don't wear red or they might think you are a very large geranium. Keep your eye out for a spotted fawn or the antlers of a buck, and of course a bear or two may amble by, they stay their distance as we never feed them or leave out any food. There is an beautiful owl that lives on the property that hunts from one of the larger trees out off the deck. We have a large stainless steel propane grill so cook out as much as you like and enjoy eating under the umbrella when the sun is too hot! Star gazing on the deck while sitting by the outdoor propane heater to keep warm and cozy is one of our favorite ways to spend an evening.

The main level consists of the living room which is carpeted with leather furniture and free standing wood stove with glass door so you can relax and watch the fire. But don't worry there is a furnace for those who would rather turn a dial. The television is hooked to Direct T.V. with surround sound and net flix. There are tons of movies plus cartoons and kiddie movies downloaded all free to you. Our dining room and kitchen is an open tiled area with sliding glass doors to our deck and windows that give you a view of the woods right from the large dining table bought in 2016.

The kitchen has a supply of spices and other staples for your convenience. Your basic appliances ( fridge and stove top, oven, dishwasher plus microwave, toaster ,coffee pot, ice tea maker, crock pot,and blender. The guest bathroom is tiled and has a tub and shower, while the master bathroom has a tile shower with built in bench and massage jets. The master bedroom has a new bought Jan. 2017 select comfort king size bed (your back will love it) and log furniture, ceiling fan and quilts for the cool mountain nights. The loft sleeps two on a double size bed with it's sky lights and ceiling fan is a perfect place for the kids (we also have a pac n play crib). Up stairs are two bedrooms one queen and the other has a full size bed. All bedrooms are carpeted and have lots of pillows and quilts! For the safety of our guests we use a sleep defense system( all mattresses and box springs are enclosed in protective coverings)

We have free WiFi so you can stay connected (if you choose to) We have an assortment of games, toys, puzzles, books, horse shoes you can set up and assortment of trucks balls all in an outside toy box. We also have a porta potty, booster chairs and stroller to make your stay easier.

We are a non-smoking residence this includes tobacco products and marijuana and cannot accept any pets. We must follow Estes Park guidelines for our house only eight people allowed children included.

Great place, our family had a blast!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at Marilyn's place. We had plenty of room and had all the necessary items that we needed. The deck is great, we cooked out and enjoyed the heater on the patio. There are cabins very close around the property so it's not as secluded as the photos imply, but we never come across someone the whole weekend we were there. There were some toys and games for the kids. Overall it was a great trip and I would recommend this place to others.

Cozy and rustic

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful house and very attentive owners.

She even left us muffins! I will say that you should not try to check in at night, because you must cross a narrow bridge and drive up a steep hill. The turn to the cabin is easy to miss at night.

Excellent location with new washer/dryer set. You can listen to the river from the deck.

The wood stove was lovely when it was chilly out.

Great get away! Right on the Big Thompson! Close to Estes Park!

  • 4 of 5

Very clean and owners are very flexible! Scenery is absolutely beautiful. The home has plenty of room. The only negatives, as stated in other reviews, you can hear and see traffic on 34. Also, there are two sets of stairs that have 2 rises that lead you in the sunken living room. I traveled w elderly parents and this was very difficult for both of them. To avoid this, you have to walk around the house to the deck. Also, the only TV ( older model) in the living area is so fuzzy you have to squint to view. Besides these things, we truly enjoyed our stay!

Owner's Response: So sorry about the T.V. thank you for letting us know! We go into clean but do not watch television in the cabin. I emailed family that just left Sunday to apologize to them as well he said the guide was fuzzy but the picture was okay, either way we will be replacing television with a brand new one. I wish you had informed me that your parents had mobility issues I would have given you a description of any stairs in the house so you could decide if our cabin was the right fit for you. I hope you got to see some fall colors in the park while you were here! Thanks, Marilyn

Very nice place to stay !!!

  • 5 of 5

The home is very nice and you are close to fishing, horseback riding mountain climbing. Your very close to Estes Park with all kinds of small shops in town to go through. The sound of the river running when your laying in bed was awesome , I definitely give this place 5 stars .. also the mountain the house is built on was great help on getting the kids energy level drained out .. lol

Great cabin close to Estes Park

  • 4 of 5

Well kept, clean and perfect for our family of 5. Everything was in working order and nice that owners allowed use of fishing poles, games, and books. We would definitely consider staying here again!

Wonderful location and view!

  • 5 of 5

I just want to thank Marilyn for providing such a wonderful opportunity to stay at the cabin. The family was immediately impressed with where we would be spending our time close to Estes Park. It was nice to be out of Estes Park, away from the crowd and yet only minutes away. Great place for some rest and relaxation. The cabin was fully equipped and we lacked nothing to make our stay comfortable.
