About the property

Big Pine Cabin sits on 5 acres of wooded land on a mountainside and is bordered by The Roosevelt National Forrest in the Big Thompson Canyon. Known for it's breathtaking views of rock out cropings, pine trees, wildflowers, the Big Thompson River and of course the wildlife.Big Pine Cabin is only 4 miles from downtown Estes Park,so you can enjoy all that town has to offer and find peace and quiet here when you tire of the crowds. The Big Thompson is the home of the Big Horn Sheep which can be seen off the roadway looking for nibbles of grass, keep your eyes open and camera's ready! Elk like the one featured in the picture right off our deck pass through our yard on the way to the river for a drink as well as deer and other wildlife. As a guest of Big Pine Cabin you have access to our private property on the Big Thompson River,(approx. 100 yards from our door to the stairway envision a standard football field)that leads down to the river.Early morning is a perfect time to fly fish (we do have a few standard fishing poles and a tackle box but the more seasoned fisherman usually bring their own.)You may choose to enjoy your morning coffee on the deck as you listen to the birds sing the sun up through the trees you may see several hummingbirds sipping the nectar off the flowers, just don't wear red or they might think you are a very large geranium. Keep your eye out for a spotted fawn or the antlers of a buck, and of course a bear or two may amble by, they stay their distance as we never feed them or leave out any food. There is an beautiful owl that lives on the property that hunts from one of the larger trees out off the deck. We have a large stainless steel propane grill so cook out as much as you like and enjoy eating under the umbrella when the sun is too hot! Star gazing on the deck while sitting by the outdoor propane heater to keep warm and cozy is one of our favorite ways to spend an evening.

The main level consists of the living room which is carpeted with leather furniture and free standing wood stove with glass door so you can relax and watch the fire. But don't worry there is a furnace for those who would rather turn a dial. The television is hooked to Direct T.V. with surround sound and net flix. There are tons of movies plus cartoons and kiddie movies downloaded all free to you. Our dining room and kitchen is an open tiled area with sliding glass doors to our deck and windows that give you a view of the woods right from the large dining table bought in 2016.

The kitchen has a supply of spices and other staples for your convenience. Your basic appliances ( fridge and stove top, oven, dishwasher plus microwave, toaster ,coffee pot, ice tea maker, crock pot,and blender. The guest bathroom is tiled and has a tub and shower, while the master bathroom has a tile shower with built in bench and massage jets. The master bedroom has a new bought Jan. 2017 select comfort king size bed (your back will love it) and log furniture, ceiling fan and quilts for the cool mountain nights. The loft sleeps two on a double size bed with it's sky lights and ceiling fan is a perfect place for the kids (we also have a pac n play crib). Up stairs are two bedrooms one queen and the other has a full size bed. All bedrooms are carpeted and have lots of pillows and quilts! For the safety of our guests we use a sleep defense system( all mattresses and box springs are enclosed in protective coverings)

We have free WiFi so you can stay connected (if you choose to) We have an assortment of games, toys, puzzles, books, horse shoes you can set up and assortment of trucks balls all in an outside toy box. We also have a porta potty, booster chairs and stroller to make your stay easier.

We are a non-smoking residence this includes tobacco products and marijuana and cannot accept any pets. We must follow Estes Park guidelines for our house only eight people allowed children included.

Parents of the bride

We rented the cabin when our daughter got married in Estes Park. We enjoyed our time their.

It was well stocked and very nicely decorated. Owners very nice to work with.

Our only complaint was the bed situation wasn't the best. The master was comfortable but the queen in the loft provided no privacy so we weren't able to use it. The other 2 bedrooms had pretty uncomfortable beds for 2 adults in each. We still made do.

The surroundings by the river were beautiful and we watched an owl in a tree from the deck.

Felt blessed to be in such a wonderful place.

Owner's Response: First let me say I am glad you saw Oscar the Owl, I feared the the crows had chased him off, they will do that. Sorry the bed situation did not work out for you, I cannot remember if I talked to your wife or not, I try to mention that the loft is off the masterbedroom with a 3/4 wall but most folks say "I will be in a house with 6 or 8 people I really don't expect much privacy" As far as the upstairs bedrooms my web page tells you the size of each bed in the rooms 1 is listed as full and the other as queen and they are both fairly new and the full has a pillow top as well as the one on the loft and the king downstair. The loft especially works out for families with children because then they have their own little area. I am glad wedding went well and the flowers were beautiful!

Great house, great location.

  • 4 of 5

Our family had a wonderful time in this lovely home. The house was very clean and spacious and had everything we needed to relax, cook and BBQ. When we weren't out exploring Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park, we spent most of our time on the great deck and around the large kitchen table. The view of the stars from the deck was amazing. And we even saw wildlife from the deck and through the many windows. River access is just down the driveway and we had fun sitting and watching the rapids.

This area offers so much to see and this house is wonderful for a stay in the Rockies.

Such a great little cabin! Very cozy!

  • 4 of 5

We loved the cabin and the fact that there was so much privacy out on the deck. The short drive into town is beautiful through the canyon. The house was very cozy and well maintained. The only downside is that the river is a bit of a hike and with bad knees - I was only able to make the trek one time during our stay.

Lovely house with lots of attention to detail for guests

  • 4 of 5

We were visiting CO for a few days and selected this property for it's proximity to Estes Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, and because I always love being near a lake or river during a vacation like this. The house was beautiful and the decor and attention to details were wonderful. We did some hiking in the area when we could, and relaxed, grilled, played games, too. Lots of room for our family of 4 (including 2 adult children) to spread out. My brother and sister-in-law came for one night and there was still plenty of room. My only disappointment was that the river was so far away, we could barely glimpse it, and could only hear the river running when it was late night and there was reduced traffic on the nearby highway (which was also closer than I envisioned). To Marilyn's credit, she did explain to me that access to the river was a walk down the road, but I still didn't realize that it was as far away "as the crow flies" from the house itself. Wish I'd been more precise with my questions. But we still had a great time, lots of privacy in that Marilyn kept us informed but gave us space, and the house was so comfortable.

Thanks for a great week!

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed staying at the cabin and it offered you rest and relaxation! We actually are quite grateful the cabin is not right on the river bank as after the flood of 2013 most of it would have had severe water damage. I do remember our phone conversation and when I was asked if one could push a wheel chair to the top of the stairway that led to the river, park it there and then proceed to carry someone down I tried to explain that after you walk down our drive, there is a curve that is gravel and goes downhill and that the steps are very steep going down and to me it all sounded quite impossible. I called two of my neighbors who live out of state and are seldom here explained the situation and both gladly offered their driveways to park in and their river access as it would be easier I then showed a member of the family those options on their arrival.I tell folks to read the reviews because some feel the river is too far others think the location of the river is great and also to read the description of the property because that issue is addressed. I am so glad Judi that you still felt you could give us 4 stars! Thanks Marilyn
