About Pauline

Owner is a descendant of the Albuquerque 1706 founding families. A respected professional with the Albuquerque Public Schools

Pauline purchased this house in 1900

Why Pauline chose Albuquerque

My vision, as an owner, has been to provide out-of-towners with a property that reflects the history of Albuquerque and New Mexico and is just minutes away from a tremendous amount of important and historic sites, including museums, parks, shops, US Hwy 66 and more!

What makes this house unique

Sitting in the heart of the city, the oldest neighborhood (unplanned), historic, zoned agriculture/ mixed. This property's location makes a family vacation or a business trip convenient, accessible, enjoyable and memorable, just steps away from city transportation, or numerous area activities. Only 1 mile from the Convention Center, and 3 miles from UNM. Easy bus transportation to the Airport 5 miles away. For a daily dose of Albuquerque pictures (as well as local commentary), see the Duke City Fix web site. Photos are posted on the Albuquerque Photo Gallery near the top of the DCF home page. People post new ones daily, and there are often spectacular shots of the Albuquerque scenery.

The real Albuquerque

  • 4 of 5

I rented the house from Pauline for a long week jammed packed with activities that included a graduation, memorial and cousins gathering. The place was clean, comfortable beds and ample parking, very quiet and receptive owner, Pauline. We had my bother and myself in the smaller rooms and my niece, grand niece and her 9 month old in the large room. I had read in the reviews about the bug problem, we had a few encounters, that be said I grew up in Albuquerque and this is a natural occurence for the desert. If your looking for a perfect little adobe facsimile sprayed with toxic chemicals go to the north east where I grew up. If your looking for the real adobe with history, eclectic charm and walking distance to wonderful Old Town this is your place.

Cockroach infested. And they have yet to issue us the refund they promised

  • 1 of 5

My wife and I got married on March 18th and we scheduled this for the bridesmaids and my wife to stay in. The overall quality of the place was unclean. And there were cockroaches everywhere. We were promised a refund and have yet to receive it. No returned calls or responses.

Owner's Response: It is unfortunate to receive a false review. They booked for 9 adults to stay in the home, but a few days before they asked for arrival at noon, since a bride and five brides maids had to get ready I accomadated. The NEXT day I received a TEXT and picture of three roaches, stating they decided not to stay. they saw that the three bedroom was not large enough for a large wedding party, a picture of 3 roaches and claim of uncleanliness and infestation, would guarantee a refund. Sad!!!

Cute little house

  • 4 of 5

The house was comfortable (king bed was really comfortable). The outside was a bit rundown, but not a big deal, though my first impression wasn't great from the outside. The house was clean and well maintained-it had all the necessities and was great to be so close to old town.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your stay. Home is clean and comfortable, with all necessities. At the end of the very ample yard, and now with warmer weather, we have the boards and small stacked lumber for carport construction away from yard,up against the fence, with no obstacle to parking and use of yard. We plan to re-stucco the south side where old carport had been attached.

Convenient location to Old Town

  • 2 of 5

This home is advertised as an historic adobe close to town. While it's true that the location is just a few blocks from the Plaza in old town, the home is certainly not what I would call an historic structure. If you're looking for location close to town and aren't particular about your lodging, then this home should suffice.

If, however you like a home that is neat and clean with appliances that function properly, showers that produce hot water, exterior doors that seal out the elements, window treatments that are operable and clean, kitchen cabinets that are clean and have doors where they are supposed to, floors that are approprialely level and walls that are not stained, then I would pass this house by.

Prior to booking the house, I read some of the reviews about the funky floors and walls. I thought that would add charm to an old adobe home. If this truly was an historic adobe, it would have been fine.

This home appears to be multiple structures (?) that have been pieced together over time, and not in a good way.

Each room seems to be at a slightly, or not so slightly different level than the one next to it. The level varies from about a half inch to several inches or more. And most of the floors and walls are at weird angles and slopes. Each room has different flooring, presumably depending on when the home was "remodeled" or that particular flooring needed replacing.

The floors that are tiled are done so poorly and have tiles with edges that stick up enough to cause a tripping hazard.

My partner and I rented the home for the holidays in Albuquerque to serve as a family gathering spot for his nieces and their families. After spending a few minutes in the home, we knew that was not an option. We did not want to risk the small children getting hurt from trips or falls.

While any of the items individually would not necessarily have been a deal breaker, all of them together were more than enough to turn what was supposed to be a relaxing getaway and family gathering spot into a place in which we did not want to spend time. We spent 2 of the 6 nights we were booked at this home in a hotel to avoid being there, which added an extra expense to the trip.

I would definitely recommend spending time in Albuquerque and plan to do so, however it will not be at this home. If you are considering this home to rent, be sure you're okay with all of the above and spending time here in a not so great neighborhood.

Owner's Response: HISTORIC Old Town Albuquerque est. 1706, is not a "planned 19th or 20th century" neighborhood. Old Terron homes are unique. This old remodeled home is not perfect but always clean, and if wear n tear marks are someplace, this is not unclean, exaggerations are interesting. Dishwasher does not work as indicated in description. Cost points are reasonable for this nice home. Guest who book and than host other family/guests have found the home too small for their large gatherings, and wish for more space. Consider larger, newer and more expensive homes away from this historic location, may very well not disappoint. Majority of guest are pleased, see reviews We continue to improve.

Charming Adobe Home within walking distance to Old Town Albuquerque

  • 4 of 5

It's an older adobe home, with older charm. With that comes older home problems, of which I made the owner aware, so I don't think it's fair to mention them here. The outside has a small wildflower garden. The inside was clean and brightly decorated. There were plenty of amenities, including children's books, movies, wifi, laundry, etc. The neighborhood was fairly quiet with several restaurants within walking distance. The zoo and arboretum are not a far drive . The owner was very responsive from the time of booking and throughout the stay. If you're looking for a fancy-dancy hotel, there is one a few blocks away, but if you just want a quiet place to lay your head without hearing neighbors through a thin wall, choose this place. I would definitely stay here again if the opportunity arises.
