If you love the beach but hate the crowds and commercial activity, this is the perfect vacation spot for you. Nestled in 3 acres of beautiful mature forest, this home is tucked in a small dune on 200 feet of private, sandy Lake Michigan beach. It’s a mere 14 steps down the charming walkway from the woods to the secluded beach. The home provides privacy and relaxation while offering modern amenities. All rooms in the open floor plan have expansive views of the Big Lake with a great view of the Manitou Islands, and on a clear day, the Fox Islands are also visible in the distance. From the large deck just off the kitchen, you may see our resident eagle diving for fish. You can enjoy an easy meal using the gas grill, or relax by an open fire in the fire pit.
The home sleeps six with two upstairs bedrooms and a Queen-sized sleeper sofa in the living room. All linens are provided. The kitchen includes microwave, dishwasher, full oven/stove, and is generally stocked with standard complimentary provisions. The two full bathrooms (one of which is conveniently located in the walkout, near the access to the lake) include a glass-doored tile shower upstairs, and a full shower/tub combo in the lower level.
Whether you enjoy active water sports, shopping, antiquing, fine dining or gambling, Sutton’s Bay, Leland and Northport are all within less than a 20 minute drive. Many local Michigan vineyards provide wine tastings, and both farm stand produce and freshly caught fish from Lake Michigan are seasonally available nearby.
Driving in, the home is located on the transition between a gravel Natural Beauty Road and paved drive, offering a great place to take a jog or enjoy a walk through the woods.
It’s less than an hour’s drive to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park, recently named the nation’s most beautiful location by ABC’s “Good Morning America.” The Park offers great hiking and stargazing opportunities, and even an occasional meteor shower. If you spend time enjoying our home on the Leelanau Peninsula, you, like many of our visitors, will keep coming back.

Why Branden Wright chose Leelanau
Built in 1994 after extensive search for unique Lake Michigan beach front. Almost 3 acre wooded lot that provides seclusion yet close to many activities that would appeal to a wide range of interests.

Nice Home on Lake Michigan
This is a great house that is stocked very well. The only problem I had was there is very limited, if any, cell phone service, even Verizon. The land line phone was disconnected. Not sure what I would have done in an emergency but thankfully the good Lord took care of me once again!
REALLY outstanding vacation residence
We have rented many vacation homes in this general area, and I have to say this property is "the one." The house is exceptional--it feels like a real home, with all of the comfort and amenities you would expect in a place you chose to live in year-round. The beds are great, the bathrooms are exceptional, the kitchen is excellent, and all of the necessary details have been attended to.
The lot feels very secluded, and has what is essentially a private beach on Lake Michigan which turns out to be far superior to Good Harbor Bay beach (which we used to drive an hour to get to). Leland and Northport are both ten-minute drives away, and one of the funnest restaurants on the peninsula is at the end of the road (Fischer's Happy Hour Tavern).
We are, frankly, always looking for things to complain about in the places we rent, and in all honesty we could find nothing we didn't like about this house. The master bedroom has huge windows looking out through the trees onto the vista of the blue of Lake Michigan filling your entire view; it's amazing...
It's true that there is no internet, and cell service is a bit spotty (although we could get a one-dot LTE connection on Verizon from certain parts of the house). The Leland public library, with free wifi, is a beautiful place to take your laptop to catch up on some work if you need to. And there is no washer/dryer here; but, the hosts have enough bath towels, washcloths, beach towels, and bedding to last a family for months, so no worries.
While our kids are pretty quiet and careful, I would say that the house is not meant for smaller children or rambunctious kids at all. There is a lot of really nice stuff--table lamps, glass tables, objets d'art on the walls--which would not survive a rowdy crew.
Definitely an amazing place, and I would go back in a heartbeat.
We are delighted that this has been your best rental experience and greatly appreciate the detailed review! Several other guests have returned year after year and incorporated this into their family tradition. We hope to see you again next year!
My wife, daughter and I stayed at this cottage in early July 2017 and had a fantastic experience. The cottage is very clean and very comfortable. The location was absolutely wonderful and we enjoyed spending time on the private Lake MI Beachfront. HIGHLY recommended!
We are so glad you had a wonderful time and that our cottage met your needs as the perfect getaway for your family! We hope to see you again next year.
Perfect western view lakefront sunsets in this 2 bedroom secluded setting for a 4-6 person family
Our family vacationed here in mid-July 2016. It is a beautiful home, very well maintained. The owners were very responsive and provided excellent and thorough support and guidance.
Whether you are looking for a week's vacation of peace and quiet, a base for outdoor adventure, or a little bit of both, this is a great house. The cottage is nicely furnished, has a well appointed kitchen, a great deck with a view of beautiful sunsets, and is super clean. It is centrally located between the quaint small towns of Leland, Northport, and Sutton's Bay, all of which have nice shops, restaurants, and opportunities for hiking and other adventures. Being used to the crowded east coast shore line, our family enjoyed exploring the shore and swimming in a lake with few other people around. We would enjoy coming back again.
We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and would love having you back as our guest!
Sitting on the beach in the evening and enjoying the sunset was the perfect end to a day. The house was very clean and everything was as described. We enjoyed driving to the area towns to shop, especially the trip to Old Mission. We would definitely recommend this property to others!
Thank you for the kind review Brian and we're so happy you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you again next year and have a great 4th of July weekend.
