Open and roomy 2000 sq ft house on 60 acres. Offers 2.5 baths and 3 bedrooms. All rooms have Queen size beds. Cabin motif. Laundry room. Heated via pellet stove and electric heat. Nice large deck to sit and relax while having breakfast or a beverage of your choice.

About Douglas Washburn

I purchased the acreage in 1988. It was just a pasture then. Prior to 1992 I put in a road and had power and a septic tank installed. In 1992 I placed a 30' trailer on the place to use when I came up on occasion. I always had the dream to build a house on the property. In 1998 I began plans on building a very grand house on the place. I later toned it down and in 2002 I began and finished the construction of the house that now occupies the place.

Preserving the view and maximizing the use of the pasture were important to me.

I chose this property because it has a awesome view. The land is great for grazing and that is it. But it offers a rare view of the mountains and the valley. It has easy access all year long.

Nice spot, but not clean

Beautiful location and an easy drive to Enterprise and Joseph. Enjoyed the quiet and wildlife in the neighborhood.

Biggest issue was that the house wasn't not clean. Linens had been changed but not much else had been done. Floors hadn't been swept, bathrooms were filthy and the kitchen had been wiped down, but barely. Did talk to the owner about his ongoing problems with his cleaner. He called her and she came back out to the property around 5 in the evening and explained what a good job she had done and generally made excuses. Never went and checked her own work or asked what our issues were. Nor did the owner follow up to see if our concerns were resolved.

It was easier to clean the place ourselves, so we did. Toilets, sinks, counters, tubs, floor mats were all washed. Swept and vacuumed. Even washed the picture windows inside and out.

Doug, the owner, is a nice guy but he needs to fix this. We have rented many, many vacation homes and this one was not clean.

Owner's Response: This past summer was an awesome year in visits to this very majestic place. Many times there was only a half day between comers and goers into the place. It got very overwhelming for my 83 year old house keeper. On this occasion I got the call of concern and was told about the condition of the house based upon their standards. I stated that I would have the housekeeper come the 20 miles immediately and rectify their concerns. I was asked not to notify her and that the visitor was fine with the cleaning that had to be done. But, the visit was made and to my knowledge all parties left in a content condition. Running a VRBO in a "remote" spot is difficult when it comes to finding housekeepers that work with a varied schedule. There is no "come by every wednesday" and do it schedule. So, I am seeking and still trying to work with this lady to do more detail. She has been watching the place for me for several years and she needs the work so I am trying to keep two camps satisfied. In this case I didn't hear any more from the renter until a month had passed from their visit. When people say all is well one must take them at their word. Things have simmered down now and I am searching for a replacement. If the house isn't as clean as one would like I recognize that people have differing standards. No problem I will do all I can to make people happy. I like happy. I will even reimburse to make people happy. But, reimbursement with a negative note doesn't make me happy. Come visit if you desire. People really do enjoy the place. It is in a serene and majestic setting. The sights, sounds, clean air, and recreational opportunities are stress relieving. I appreciate this renters comments and I also greatly appreciate the many positive reviews we have had. This is not the cheapest place in Wallowa County. I price it as such because it is unique and I don't want a large contingency of visitors. Visit the place and you will (if properly communicated) go away satisfied.

Where do you live?

Private, yet Central to Joseph and Enterprise

We loved the location as it was private and had beautiful views of the mountains and valley. It was only 15 minutes from both Enterprise and Joseph, and about 25 minutes to Wallowa Lake.

Cozy Get Away

Even though this was a work trip, Doug's home was an awesome place to come back to after what felt like some very long work days. A very relaxing spot with a warm and inviting space. Was definitely the perfect escape from the all the commotion of a long day.

Beautiful Home with Breathtaking Views

We absolutely loved our stay here! The home was just what we were looking for. It was very quiet and peaceful but still close enough to town if you needed to run errands. We spent many evenings setting on the front deck just enjoying nature and much of the days hiking local trails. The owner was very kind, helpful, and easy to contact if needed.

This house is located on the western slope of the Wallowa Valley. Chief Joseph fought to hold onto this place for himself and his people. It is truly worth the fight. The air is very crisp, clear and you can hear sounds from miles away. It is not uncommon to see deer (mule and white tail), pheasants, chuckers, quail, elk and occasionally a black bear.

This property is located on 60 acres. There is pasture space available for short term grazing of horses or pack animals. Dogs can stay here if left outside. Cats are allowed if they are declawed.

The property is located 3 miles outside of Enterprise. Between the two towns of Joseph and Enterprise there is amble recreation, shopping, and basic needs viz restaurants, hospital, gas, food, post offices, golf, etc.

The place is extremely quiet and seclusion is ample. The house can easily sleep 8. There are 2.5 baths and ample hot water. The water is derrived from a deep well so it is delicious and cold.

If you are seeking a very stress free environment... this is certainly the spot.
