About Don Strenk
We are local Southern California residents. We own two units on the beach in San Miguel. We spend weekends in one and rent the other. We pride ourselves on impeccable service to our guests.

Unit 62 in SMII is on the Strand with a great balcony view of the pier. This top level unit has been remodeled with modern appointments including Tommy Bahama Master Bedroom and a private Sauna/Shower in the guest bath.

Great, I wanted to stay longer!
Again I enjoyed my month at this San Miguel condo. It was clean, attractive, comfortable, and well equipped, and definitely well located close to a huge beach and the pier. There are lots of walking options either right out the door or on several beaches/parks down the Coast Highway as well as endless restaurants near by. In the garage my car’s windows stayed relatively clean of the salt air spray.
Both the owner and the realtor were immediate and helpful in responding to my few questions. I would definitely recommend this rental to others.
This is our 2nd time staying in unit #62 in San Miguel. We were here in 2015. Since then Don has put in new furniture and taken out the carpet and put down a nice hardwood (looking) floor. Both were very nice improvements. The place is in an amazing location and was a great place to call home. We hope to return again someday! The place was clean and the complex was so well kept. We loved sitting in the hot tub each night to watch the beautiful sunsets. Oceanside is a fantastic place . We especially loved Thursdays! They have a sunrise market and sunset market on those days. We looked forward to that every week.
Glad you enjoyed! The floors are actually engineered hardwood bamboo on birch...so very durable and hard! Look forward to repeat guests!!
Five Stars for Location
The Strand is a great location north of the pier as beaches are the best and you are steps to the beach. The condo complex offers two hot tubs we enjoyed watching the sunset because from this unit, you can not see sunset. The unit is definitely a rental unit which could use some updating however it was a perfect size with a most comfortable bed in master bedroom. Everything worked well and we had no issues. Deck has full sun all morning and afternoon to enjoy reading a book and people watching. Thank you Don for letting us enjoy your property. We had the best month and the weather cooperated . No need to have a car if you like to walk. We hope to return in a couple of years.

We stayed at Don's unit for the month of September through December 2015. We loved our stay!!! The unit is clean and very comfortable. We loved being directly on the beach strand and enjoyed multiple long walks on the beach with our dog along with many beautiful sunsets. It is hard to find decent accommodations that allow pets and we appreciate that Don welcomed our dog. much of the unit and kitchen was updated and the beds were comfortable. If you need anything, Don was very receptive to provide what we needed. The parking is easy and is in a gated underground garage and we were able to park both of our cars. The unit is priced very reasonable. We are hooked and hope to be able to come back often. If you are considering a trip to Oceanside, you will not be disappointed with your stay here!
Paradise lost and turned to nightmare!
We rented this unit for the month of August. We arrived to dirt and filth throughout and so much deferred maintenance that is was unbelievable based on previous views. We were told it was because they didn't have enough time between guests. No kidding the dryer was still on and the condo about 100 degrees. The carpet was trashed, we were told it would be cleaned before we arrived. They jack hammered for six days to remove the sidewalk in front of the restrooms that are being built directly in front of your view of the pier. Even the manager came by and said she couldn't stand the jack hammering and she personally cleaned the ceiling fan and vents that were caked with dirt. The cabinet front in the kitchen was gone and the refrigerator appeared to have been kicked in on the bottom shelf. We went to use the tea kettle and it had a hole in the bottom. The inventory is nothing like what it says it is i.e. only 5 drinking glasses, three of which were broken, many items on the list are non existent, and the mattress pads were disgusting when I changed the sheets. The master shower drain cover and tub stop were gone and the suggestion was to put a plastic bag in the opening to keep water from running downstairs (we did this for the entire month because no repairs were made even when the plumber replaced the toilet). The downstairs neighbor left a note that our toilet was leaking into his ceiling--another day of vacation lost while the plumber repaired and reset the toilet. The air flow to this unit is blocked by the building directly in front so when the record temperatures hit we had days on end that it never got below 82 degrees in the bedroom at night and was about 90 at midnight. This was confirmed by the clocks which we had to replace batteries in because they were dead, but so nice once we did because it confirmed our misery with the temperature gage on the face. August 17th the owner came by to drop off a couple of pillows and a dish drainer. When I asked him about the problems we had been experiencing he was incredulous and going to take care of it with the manager. It was apparent that his only reason for coming by was to take a picture off the balcony with the new public restroom. When we moved out on August 31st the cabinet front was still missing, bathtub drain still open, filthy carpets, and mattress pads and most everything else on the list was undone! It could have been so nice. Good luck, as for us paradise turned to a nightmare!
I am sorry that this tenant did not have an enjoyable vacation. Our history with tenants is impeccable as can be seen in our reviews. All tenants are given my personal cell phone and I respond immediately to any issue. I was never called by this tenant with any issue. Consequently, I was surprised and appalled when I happened to drop in halfway through the month and heard complaints about cleanliness and disrepair. Then I spoke with my management company and got the full story. There was quick turnover from July to August and the management company asked if the tenant could wait 3 hours before checking in to insure proper inspection and cleaning. The tenant said no. The management company told them to immediately call with any issues. They called the next day regarding cleanliness. The management company immediately offered to clean the entire unit and inspect. THEY WERE TURNED DOWN. All issues would have been immediately resolved. Two weeks later when I dropped by I heard about the lack of cleanliness and disrepair from the tenant for the first time. I WAS NOT told that my management company offered to re clean. Again we offered to do a full cleaning and were turned down. With regard to the ceiling fan - what appeared to be dust turned out to be merely fraying of the fan material (since replaced). The tenant was there when the management company inspected the fan and agreed it was not dirt. Not sure why she reports it as dirt in this write up. Also, her report on dishes and glasses is just false. Perhaps she did not open all of the cabinet doors.
I cannot control the weather, and most vacationers like 85 degrees at the beach in the summer albeit unseasonably hot for Oceanside. I also cannot control construction that the city decides to do in public areas. However, I did reimburse the full cleaning fee and offered to reimburse the tenant additionally for her troubles. She however wanted almost 1/3 of her rent rebated with a threat that the “Pen is Powerful”. I trust that renters will read all of our reviews and take this one in proper context. By the way – Her husband told me that the kids and grand kids came down to visit during the month and had a blast!
The September renters have moved in and are booked through November. They love the place so much they have asked if I can accommodate them on an extension through the month of December!!
The modern, new restroom replaces the old one and does not change the view from our balcony.
Great Time For Sure! I usally reserve 5 Star for places with free steak and lobster
This is long overdue. I stayed for the month of May 2015. Although I am a local I find San Diego is still by far the best place to vacation and thus I force myself to stay at the beach on weekends in order to pry myself from work or working around the house. I am at a point in my life to where I am contemplating buying a vacation home, however after staying at Dons place I think this is the best financial decision I could make. This condo may not offer the best views as others have stated as compared to the units right in front but you do get a fantastic view which in brag I have posted countless times on Face book last May. The 2 Jacuzzis up front right off the strand gives you the feeling of entitlement! Yeah like your Royals! lol. The unit is nice and offers very comfortable sleeping. However no unit compares to my home and is not why I rent Condos or Cabins or hotel rooms. It is about enjoying life and with the location of this unit I truly enjoyed the ease of movement I had. I learned to do long walks again both at the beach at out on the town. Now I do spend allot of time in and out of hotels around the area, but for value and to have a place with easy access to the beach this rental offered my family the best return. You will be fighting with me almost every year for my reservation month. I just stayed the weekend again in Oceanside for the Labor day holiday, we even ventured in to the nice time share that is closest to the pier. What a joke the fees and costs are as in comparison to this place. One week costs way more than a whole month for this unit! The owner Don does care that you enjoy his place he is a great Landlord. The management Company well it's okay, there is room for improvement. You will not be disappointed with your stay, that is if you love the beach and what a beach community offers.
