About Van Bonaros
Van and Helen live in Westchester County, NY with their two children and their pets. They love to travel and look forward to spending as much time as possible on Captiva Island where they can relax and unwind.
Van Bonaros purchased this Condo in 2011
Why Van Bonaros chose Captiva
Captiva is a destination unlike no other. You are on a lush tropical island that is low key and laid back. The beaches are beautiful and unspoiled. The nearby village is quaint with shopping and al fresco dining with nightly entertainment.
What makes this Condo unique
You are steps away to the beach and the village and any outdoor adventures that suit your mood. While at the beach, enjoy complimentary lounge chairs and umbrellas. Cocktails and light meals are available for purchase. You are sure to have a dolphin sighting at the beach and be sure to check out the manatee at the marina.

Overall very good
The condo was very clean and had many useful amenities. The lanai looks out to a peaceful marina as well as the pool that you have access to. This unit does not come with access to many of the restaurants, pools, and amenities at the resort itself (unit is located at South Seas Island Resort), but it is an easy walk to the beach that does have chairs and umbrellas set up for you and the pool you can access is very nice. It’s a 5-10 minutes walk to Andy Rosse street where most of the restaurants are located. We wish there would have been some basic kitchen supplies (salt/pepper, etc) to help with cooking but it wasn’t a big inconvenience. There was a little confusion when we arrived, as we had not received any instructions on how to access the unit. Owner returned a call within 20 minutes and made sure we could get in. We would go back to this resort but may consider booking through South Seas as opposed to booking through a third party.
Great location and view of the water. We especially liked the screened porch!
Very clean and comfortable. The bed and linens were great. The kitchen and appliances were fine. We wished there had been a few basic spices provided. There were 2 of us staying in the condo and the size was ideal. I do think 4 people would not work very well.
Cozy and Comfortable.
My husband and I spent four nights here January 2018. The condo was clean and had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable! The view overlooks the marina which has trees all around it. Great place to watch all sorts of birds come in for the night. It was a five minute walk to a beautiful beach with great shells. We really enjoyed ourselves and are hoping to go back to the same condo next year. It is a 10 minute walk to Captiva Town Center where there are some restaurants. The J. N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge is less than 15 minutes away by car. I would highly recommend this condo and area to have a vacation.
Beautiful, clean condo - would definitely return
I would give this unit a 4.8, but that wasn't an option! The most important thing to us in choosing a rental unit is cleanliness, location to the beach, and up-to-date furnishings. This unit was excellent in all 3. The cleanliness was unlike any rental, resort or hotel I have ever stayed in. And we are very picky! The décor was perfect - beach-themed, but not tacky. The location to the beach was either a 4 minute walk or a 2-minute bike ride. The kitchen had everything we needed and was stocked with dishes, utensils and plenty of pots/pans to prepare meals of any size. The lanai was a relaxing spot to drink morning coffee and overlook the pool and marina. There were plenty of towels, blankets, beach towels, 2 beach chairs, 2 beach mats, and umbrella. There were only 2 of us - it might be a little tight with 4, and there isn't a lot of closest space for 2, let alone 4, but with kids this would be less of a problem. The second guest bathroom was a huge plus even with 2 of us.
The only 2 negative areas that were only slightly disappointing was that it was advertised with a washer and dryer. I don't use VRBO often, but didn't realize this didn't necessarily mean IN the unit. There was a community washer and dryer (2 each) in the building with $2 per load each for washer and dryer. Fortunately we ended up having enough clothes and didn't need to use. Also, either the reception for the TV was bad or there wasn't HDTV as the picture quality was not very clear in both the bedroom and the family room. It was "bowl" weekend and did end up watching a lot of football when we were in.
This unit is in the South Seas Plantation Resort, but other than Doc Ford's Rum Bar, you do not have access to any of the facilities, trolleys, restaurants or shops. But this was not a problem at all for us. Just outside the gate were plenty of great restaurant options. We didn't move our car for 4 days. We ate at Doc Ford's, Key Lime Bistro, The Bubble Room, and the Captiva House for New Years Eve. All are highly recommended. It's best if you can get groceries before you get onto Sanibel. Jerry's is about 10 miles away and has a full selection, however, the prices are high. There are two small grocery stores within a very short walk, but these are more for last minute necessities as their prices are high as well. YOLO rents bikes very reasonably - $12 per day plus $3 each day thereafter. We kept the bikes for the full 4 days and used them quite often.
a lovely condo within a larger resort. The screened in deck faces the harbor and the pool and is a short walk to the beach. the condo itself is well appointed with new appliances . the biggest drawbacks were lack of closet space, sub-par bedding, and reliance on the resort's wifi, which is unsecured and thus vulnerable to hacking.
Captivated in Captiva
Comfy , cozy just like being home. The unit had beautiful decor & was everything we could have hoped for in a vacation rental. The owners have gone out of their way to make their guests want to be repeat visitors.
Escape to this lush, tropical, laid back island paradise and be instantly captivated by miles of unspoiled beaches where the dolphins and manatee play. Enjoy shelling, fishing, boating, tennis, golf, water sports, and gorgeous sunsets on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. Our condo is just steps away from the beach and pool and a short stroll to Captiva's classic village where you can dine and shop.
