About the property

1,000 square foot duplex loft, sunny, quiet and clean

Sunny fifth and sixth floor loft (nearly 1,000 square feet/97m2) overlooking Paris rooftops! The apartment is very sunny with soaring ceilings supported by centuries-old wooden beams and walls covered with original art.

The apartment consists of living room w/2 large comfortable sofas in front of a fireplace (though fires now illegal in Paris). Vaulted ceilings open onto the bedroom above which overlooks the living room below. There are windows on both sides that look out on courtyards, a large entryway and adjoining dining area that seats four and opens onto the kitchen. A spiral staircase leads up to the large bedroom with a wall of windows with views of the Paris rooftops and the stone courtyard below.

A full-bath with tub/shower and washer/dryer adjoins the bedroom. Upstairs there is also a separate office area with fiber internet The apartment includes bed linens, towels and toiletries. Several drawers and a closet are cleared to avoid living out of a suitcase during the visit.

Stay here and live as the locals do: shopping at the neighbourhood grocer or covered market, lounging in a neighborhood cafe, exploring the galeries, boutiques and cafes of the tenth arrondissement.

Willing to reduce rates for late bookings if flat shows availability.

As a fifth floor walk up with an internal spiral staircase, not ideal for anyone with limited mobility (help with luggage on arrival and departure can usually be arranged). Maid service for longer stays can also be schedules at extra cost.

What makes this apartment unique

Situated on top floors on the inside courtyard (away from street), flat is extraordinarily quiet and sunny. Paris is a big city and noise can be an issue.

Neighbourhood is very centrally located with easy access to multiple transit lines so most any point in Paris is no more than 20 minutes away. The tenth arrondissement has become the new 'cool quarter' in Paris and there are dozens of bars, cafes, restaurants and boutiques in the area while it retains its authentic, parisian charm. This is a place to stay for people who want to know Paris beyond the monuments and museums.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We visited in July 2013 to see Paris with our 2 kids for 5 days. We had spent 2 weeks in Brittany prior to visiting Paris. Access through the main door, entrance to building and then flat was relatively easy. We had 5 suitcases between us and the only negative was the many steps to get up to the apartment, probably mostly due to the late hour/tiredness that day from traveling into the city. However once inside the apartment wow…. how lovely.

Our kids are 8 and 10 at the time and had no trouble sleeping on the sofas in the living area. My wife and I were in the bed in the loft area where the bathroom was located. The kitchen and table made for easy meal preparation and eating and had the usual daily things like milk, eggs….

Overall it was very quiet due to its top floor location and the building was a lovely older type with interior courtyard. Lots of locals who were all friendly and welcoming. The only negative was the unusual 40 degree C plus temperatures in the city; opening the windows and fans were not enough and apartment did not have air conditioning, but, given the infrequency of such heat in Paris, it is understandable.

Location: the nearest metro stop was St. Denis, only a 5 min walk away. On the route were restaurants and grocery stores. Access on the metro took another 10 to 15 mins to get to the heart of the city (Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower).

The owner was great in providing advance information on entry, location, and assisting with taxi to the airport at the end. In addition giving the tip of dropping the car (Avis) at the nearby rail station rather than having to do so at the airport, saved us 2 hours of travel and was at no extra charge.

Overall I would rate the apt with 2 small children as a 9 out of 10. Very comfortable, clean, well located for public transport, and relatively quiet in a vibrant city. Paris was definitely the highlight of our trip mainly due to the great place to stay after busy days of sightseeing. The 1 out of 10 was really only due to the temperature inside for much of our stay being a little uncomfortable with only the fans and the many flights of stairs with the suitcases on arrival. Having said that, with all the walking around the city and up and down the stairs at the end, we were all that much fitter.

A big thank you to the owner for a great place in a wonderful city. We will definitely be back some day.

Fabulous host, fabulous place

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a week in this wonderful apartment -- 2 adults and our teenage son. It was, as advertised, light-filled, spacious, and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay here tremendously -- close to everthing, quiet at night, with wonderful breezes through the many windows even on the hottest of days. There was plenty of space for us and our teenage son. Will was the consummate host -- easy to reach, responsive to our questions, and full of helpful advice. We would HIGHLY recommend this property for your stay in Paris.

5 story walk up

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here in July 2014 We stayed for 4 nights. We were 2 adults & 2 kids (13 & 10). It was a perfect location to the subway and train stations. We walked with our suitcases and it wasn't a big deal. The climb up to the apartment was fun, with the winding staircase. All amenities were close at hand, (food/wine). It was a quiet location. The kids slept upstairs on the bed and the 2 adults slept on the cushions of the sofas, it was quite comfortable.

A Great Find

  • 5 of 5

As a family of 4 with two teenagers that needed room, this place was perfect. We were plenty close enough for all the must sees, however away from the noise. It was a very quiet at night. The neighborhood is lively and full of eclectic finds and good eats. The suite is big and well equipped so enjoyable after a long day of trying to savor Paris. Metro short walk away. Enjoyed the wonderful bakery below which were the best croissants we had on our whole trip. Good groceries and wine shops on the street with easy access. My thanks goes to our host who was so helpful and responsive. We were provided with an info sheet with lots of little details that were extremely helpful.

Now - I must say we like stairs it is one of those hiking challenges, however for those who aren't up to stair climbing with luggage it might be a challenge, there are about 95 steps. The suite is well laid out however there are open loft areas and a small spiral staircase which might not be the best for smaller children.

Overall, we were absolutely delighted with our stay in the bright and airy Paris suite.

Owner's Response: thanks very much for the kind comments. As to the stairs, no hiding them, we mention them prominently on the rental site and prospective guests should be aware that if five flights are a problem, this is not the place for them. Upside is they are a good way to walk off the croissant calories!

Perfect location for exploring Paris and lovely, sunny space

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was even better than the photos suggested- clean, bright, sunny, spacious, and well equipped. Host was always readily accessible by email and phone as well as friendly and helpful. Gave excellent instructions on arriving in Paris and at the apartment as well as many helpful recommendations for making the most of time in the neighbourhood. Bakery on site was an added bonus! The concierge was also extremely friendly and helpful. We would definitely come back and stay in this charming apartment and neighbourhood. Excellent value and a true pleasure dealing with the host. Size worked well for our family of four. We couldn't have been happier with the whole experience.

Lovely apartment

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in this apartment. So nice to return there after a busy day in Paris. I've stayed in many tiny apartments in Paris, so it was a real treat to have so much space! The apartment is beautifully decorated with lots of artwork, and it is very comfortable. We had a wonderful cross breeze with the windows open. It never got too hot! Even though the owner was away, we had good and quick responses from him, with any questions that we had. The information given out ahead of time was complete, and incredibly helpful. There are many stairs to climb to get to the apartment, but the staircase is wide, and you can pause on the landings, if you need to. We would definitely hope to stay there the next time we are in Paris!

Really nice apartment

  • 5 of 5

This apartment was perfect for our 4 night stay in Paris. It was close to Metro (300 m). Lots of restaurants in the area. The apartment have everything you need. The steps up to the bedroom and bathroom is a little steep. You feel that you are a part of the real Paris. All the noise in Paris totally disapear when you are in the apartment. Perfect place to get "home" to after a day of sightseeing or shopping. We arrived late to the apartment, but that was not a problem because of codes and keybox. You get all informations you need from Will about how to find the apartment and about the area. I can only recommend it.
