October 21, 2011 – New York Times, Emily Brady:

“Sonoma County may be best known for its wineries and the tony (sic) towns of Healdsburg and Sonoma, but West County, as locals call the area around Sebastopol, is where the vineyards begin to give way to rolling hills, bohemian enclaves and the wild Pacific Coast beyond. Sure, there’s wine produced here — excellent pinots in particular — but there’s plenty to explore beyond it, especially around Sebastopol, where in recent years new restaurants, shops and live music venues have opened, securing the town’s position as West County’s arts and culture hub.”

American as Apple Pie

“‘I’ve been to Napa and Sonoma,’ you hear people say, as if they were one and the same. Sure, Sonoma’s 300-plus wineries, like those of vine-centric Napa, offer peak wine tasting, from Ravenswood’s deep Zinfandels to Gloria Ferrer’s sophisticated sparklers. But if you’ve visited only the county’s wineries, come back to sample the astounding diversity that makes Sonoma one of America’s travel treasures.

Spend some time floating in an inner tube down the Russian River and walking amid ancient giants—one over 1,400 years old—at Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve. Poke around the old Russian stockade at Fort Ross, which turns 200 in 2012, or the Spanish adobe mission, San Francisco Solano, in Sonoma town. Hunt for antiques along Petaluma’s downtown Victorian row, and dine on seasonal sake-steamed, aged abalone at Michelin-starred Cyrus in Healdsburg. And don’t miss a flaky, fruit-packed slice of Gravenstein pie from Mom’s Apple Pie, a roadside stop outside Sebastopol. It ranks up there with a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir as a real taste of Sonoma.”

Amazing spot

  • 5 of 5

Walking distance to wineries. Short drive to redwoods, beautiful coastline and fabulous towns.

The outdoor kitchen is the ideal hang out spot in the evenings. Heidi and Brent made us feel at home and welcome even as the devastating fires burned just miles away. We felt protected and appreciated and were moved by the community's resilience in the face of unimaginable loss. Wineberry Lodge is a special oasis.

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

I celebrated my 40th birthday with family and friends. This lodge, along with Blackberry Cottage, was perfect. People didn't want to leave the lodge and explore because the lodge is SO nice. The outside kitchen is gorgeous. We made pizzas, drank wine, listened to music, played ping pong, soaked in the hot tub, and enjoyed the wonderful weather. Heidi was amazing and answered all of my questions. She decorated the lodge for my birthday. She is the best! Have no hesitations in renting this lodge. It's wonderful!

This place is awesome!

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time I have stayed here, and I will keep coming back. The place is spacious and immaculate. The backyard patio is incredible, and a great place for entertaining guests. The owner thought of everything down to the welcome sign, complimentary wine, and bottled water in the fridge - classy and hospitable. Could use a third bathroom, but it's not enough to deter me from coming back. Love this place!

What a BEAUTIFUL home!

  • 5 of 5

We were so happy to have found this gem. We were greeted by the wonderful owner (Heidi) who walked us through the amazing home and beautiful grounds. We were happy to hear that the home had recently received a valuable upgrade, AIR Conditioning! We arrived to record breaking heat and the house was cool upon our arrival. Even though it was 106 outside, we had a great time creating and cooking 6 pizza's in the outdoor wood fire pizza oven / kitchen - this home has a wonderful entertaining area inside and out! Thank you for making us feel welcomed and for making us feel like we were home! We will defiantly be back!

Fabulous home! Happy family!

  • 5 of 5

The minute we walked in, my comment was, "I want to live here"! Not only is the interior and exterior beautiful, it is home-y and welcoming. The Doyles have thought of everything you could ever need. The outside kitchen is amazing. Although we had a busy wedding weekend, we considered this house to be a "destination" in itself. Heidi was wonderful. Hope to be back!
