About the property

Rates starting at $140 per night

This new listing has a very peaceful setting overlooking a beautiful gazebo, pond, bridge and lighted fountain. THERE IS NO FISHING ALLOWED IN THE POND. It has Mountain Views and is close to everything Asheville has to offer. Downtown Asheville and The Biltmore House/Estate are less than 6 miles away. The Blue Ridge Parkway Entrance is less than 4 miles away. The WiFi is high speed cable. All living areas are on one floor and easy to navigate.

Although we are pet friendly, the rental is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized after each guest's visit. Dogs must be approved by owners PRIOR to booking. The pet fee is $75 for the first dog, and an additional $25 for a second dog. That is the maximum number of dogs that will be approved unless the owner consents and additional fees would be applied.

As we have worked hard to create a peaceful setting, it is not suitable for loud or late night partying or large gatherings. If you are planning a family reunion, we have an additional rental on the other side of the pond which sleeps six (VRBO property #708010).

Just a note: The address for this rental has been changed by the Emergency 911 system to 10 Heron Pond Lane, although it is in the same location. It does not yet show up on any maps or GPS as of yet. Use the directions provided.

About Bob Spear

We fell in love with Asheville and the mountains, and this beautiful property. The large pond had so much wildlife that we couldn't resist. We are from the Midwest and the mountains here are stunning.

Bob Spear purchased this house in 2012

Why Bob Spear chose Smoky Mountains

We have been coming to Asheville for several years and decided this property was perfect for a custom home. We bought this land a few years ago due to its private and natural setting. This custom home was completed in late August 2012.

What makes this house unique

This property with the gazebo, large pond with two lighted fountains, bridge and island is what is unique to this area. It is a wonderful place to relax, whether on the wooden swing or picnic table next to the pond or building a campfire in the stone fire pit and fixing s'mores. Your private patio is a perfect location to have coffee and breakfast in the morning while listening to singing birds. At any one time during warm weather we have ducks, herons and other birds. There are koi fish in the pond who like to be fed. A large gas grill is provided for your bar-b-q needs. The home's interior has high end finishes including wood floors throughout, granite counter tops and stainless appliances. Also, you are close to everything, but still have this private setting. We are just a few minutes from downtown Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's a great place to relax after a long day of sightseeing.

Great experience!

  • 4 of 5

This was the first time we have rented a private home for vacation and I will definitely do it again! We had so much space and felt right at home. It was wonderful to be able to bring our dogs and include them in our activities in Ashville. This place offered a comfortable home and big yard. It also had everything you need (linens, dishes, pans, etc). Thanks for opening your home to us!

Cozy, comfortable property with thoughtful owners

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I rented this property over the Christmas holiday. We found the property to be very clean, comfortable and well-appointed. I'm a stickler for clean and this property not only looked clean but smelled clean! The back patio is much more inviting than the VRBO pictures indicate. The patio is large and sunny in the afternoon. It was so warm Christmas Day we spent the afternoon on the patio enjoying the warmth while our dogs investigated the property.

Since we rented over Christmas the owners thoughtfully provided a live Christmas tree!

We did have a bit of trouble finding the house so pay attention to the updated instructions (don't use the address provided by VRBO). The locks on the doors were different than we'd ever used before so we had to call for help. The owner was promptly available to answer all our calls and quickly handled our questions.

I really appreciated the motion detector lights outside. These came on as we stepped onto the back patio - a welcome sight for walking the dogs after dark and when walking from the driveway to the door.

I cooked Christmas Eve dinner in the kitchen (which is small but well stocked) and was surprised to find there's no vent over the kitchen stove. It didn't impact my ability to cook but did allow steam and odors inside the rooms. :-(

Tranquil Mountain Retreat

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful spot for a vacation! The apartment was lovely--lots of space, beautiful furnishings and gorgeous views. The place was immaculate--obviously lovingly cared for by its friendly owners. This was our first visit to Ashville and we enjoyed every minute. We were close to the city and all that it offered--great art, great food, stunning views and of course the fabulous Biltmore Estate! We WILL return!

This was close enough to be convenient, far enough to be quiet, and everything we were hoping for

  • 5 of 5

There are only positives I can say about our experience here. The location, the cleanliness, comfort of the beds, even the internet was fast (which is pretty uncommon). There was plenty of room and everything was in excellent condition. If I had one recommendation to make for future guests, it would be to purchase bottled water from the supermarket 5 minutes away. The water itself has a taste similar to that from a garden hose which does not make for good coffee. Otherwise, there is nothing I could suggest to change or improve.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and what you enjoyed about the property. We are surprised with your comments on the water. Asheville is well known for the quality of their water system. In 4 1/2 years, no one has ever voiced that comment, but it may be it differs from your water taste at home and what you are accustomed to. Thanks for choosing our property.
