ROADS: Well paved roads make it an easy drive from the I-5 to Pine Mountain. The roads in this private community are well maintained by the Club. However, at a mile high altitude, weather can change quickly in the mountains so CHAINS and/or a 4WD would be necessary in winter.

NEARBY: Within a short drive you will find museums (Ridge Route, Fort Tejon), antiquing, off-road recreation (McGill Trail, Hungry Valley SVRA), Lake Pyramid for boating/waterskiing, shopping (Outlets at Tejon just a skip and and hop down I-5)

Surprisingly there is always the right amount of things to do (or not do) for any stay! Sip your morning coffee on the deck or drink your evening wine while gazing up into the star-filled night sky. Your Rocky Top mountain cabin and miles of national forest to discover is waiting. Come find out why Pine Mtn Club are called one of Southern California's "best kept secrets".

About Richard and Linda

RICHARD (a 'can-do' kind of guy) and LINDA (a creative perfectionist) - owners.

We designed and constructed this unique 2-level Craftsman lodge-like home ourselves. Every rock, board and shingle was chosen and placed with our own hands. The rocks and boulders had to be dug out for the foundation. We even had to blast a 'ledge' (translation: rock as big as the mountain!) to pour the lower floor concrete. You can see why we christened it 'Rocky Top'. We had planned to make this our home, but family obligations delayed our plans. After years of being leased-out (even sold once and then reclaimed!) we have renovated, decorated and restored this gem to share with you. Like many people Linda, an avid interior decorator, dreamed of owning a B&B. This is probably as close as she will get. Our family and friends traveled up from the Los Angeles area a few days every week for a year to work on this restoration. Richard, now a retired general contractor, turned the business over to our son who did the heavy lifting and electrical. Our neighbor, a retired plumber, graciously gave many hours to the project. Linda had great fun pulling the parts and pieces together. The talents of family members are showcased in the many custom artworks and stained glass windows throughout the lodge.

Richard and Linda purchased this cabin in 1978

Why Richard and Linda chose Los Angeles County

Few people knew about Pine Mountain Club in 1972. We saw a television ad. Tennaco was developing the land. Mil Potrero was as yet unpaved. No signs, no guardrails, no nothing! We were young, still newlyweds after only four years and dreaming of getting away from city life. We fell in love with the area and purchased a lot across the sreet. LInda's parents helped us build. We worked for three years constructing layer upon layer. It was our dream home. We planned to all retire there together. But then tragedy struck. Linda's dad had a stroke and our beautiful structure was NOT handicap accessible. So.....we sold our dear creation, purchased another lot (Rocky Top) and started again. It's not visible from the towering front, but the back bedroom starts at ground level. Everyone got to enjoy the beautiful mountains for a few years before the mile-high altitude proved too much for an elderly heart. Rocky Top was then leased out. We missed it terribly and no one cared for it as lovingly as we had. Then a terrible storm blew through in March 2011. We came up the mountain for the first time in many years, saw our beloved Rocky Top and decided then and there to reclaim it. We've had a grand time!!! And now we're ready to share our joy with you.

So, why do we call it a LODGE? 'Cabin' just didn't fit it's character. By definition a 'Lodge' is a country house 'occupied in season for sports' - hunting, fishing, skiing, swimming, tennis, golf, birdwatching, star gazing, reading, relaxing, deep breathing!!! (all sanctioned sports at Pine Mountain Club!!!)...we just had to call it a LODGE!!!

What makes this cabin unique

ROCKY TOP feels like a world away tucked into the middle of the forest. All told we've probably spent the best years of our lives constructing, furnishing and landscaping this dream property...while having the times of our lives!!! We invite you to come enjoy the clear blue skies, clean fresh air and the thrill of sighting the occasional Condor soaring high overhead. In spring stroll down our wooded path and smell the fragrant lilacs. Sit in the log swing and listen to the wind whisper in the pines. A few days on the mountain is more restful for us than a two-week vacation. We're sure it will be the same for you. Come on up to ROCKY TOP - we'd love to share our dream-come-true with you!!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved the cabin. It was so warm and inviting with all the special details. we loved feeding the birds and squirrels, playing games, baking cookies and just enjoying nature in a first rate environment. We would love to come back when there is snow.

We enjoyed meeting Linda. She was very pleasant and made us feel very comfortable.

Amazing Stay

  • 5 of 5

Our stay for Christmas at the Rocky Top Lodge was no less than absolutely amazing. This cabin has it all- every amenity was considered and available. The moment we walked in the door, we felt like family being welcomed! Felicity was so kind and gave us a thorough orientation to everything we needed to snow for staying in the snowy mountains. She even brought us home made muffins, which were absolutely delicious. Richard and Linda were more than accommodating and welcoming in making our arrangements.

The accommodations were simply amazing- the beds were all comfortable and clean, and the kids absolutely LOVED the bear's attic. The adults had a few lively games of billiards.

I honestly cannot say enough positive things about this experience. None of us wanted to leave and are already planning on when we can go back. It was absolutely magical.

Owner's Response: We are so very happy that you and your family enjoyed your stay at Rocky Top and felt completely at home. Also that our order for snow arrived in time for your White Christmas celebration! Guess there are still a few things that Amazon doesn't deliver (yet)!

Rocky Top is TOPS

  • 5 of 5

It took a lot of love and attention to detail to put together the Rocky Top Lodge experience. Not just a cabin... or just a place to sleep... another stop on the road with no distinguishing factors.... this home totally immerses you in nature and cabin life with amazing sights and sounds. This includes beautiful high quality quilts and animal decor lamps, etc. literally everywhere you look! We expected a bit of this as most Pine Mtn homes have a piece or two of log furniture and the mandatory bear or deer photos here and there.... but nothing like this! Plus its very comfortable with good bedding and towels... and most of all very CLEAN. The cabin is extremely well-stocked with every kitchen tool you could want as well as books and videos... you literally need only bring your clothes, some groceries and cell phone and you are good to go! Most surprisingly, since it is nearly Christmas... the entire exterior was a light show of Christmas cheer. Our eyes about popped out when we pulled into the driveway with this unexpected treat. I don't even want to decorate my house for Christmas now as I could not come close to achieving what we had in Pine Mtn and we are feeling very content already. The whole home was like one big Christmas present. We are so glad we were there during the holiday season but will come back in the summer to basque in the mtn sun and enjoy that porch swing. There are some basic maintenance rules to be followed so if you don't want to help maintain this lovely home it is probably not the best place for you.

Owner's Response: We were so delighted to receive your email comparing our Rocky Top Lodge themed rooms to the Madonna Inn in SLO. We have spent some lovely anniversaries there and it no doubt influenced my decorating style. You made mention of "some basic maintenace rules to be followed". Yes, we do ask guests to feed the Parlour pellet stove in the 'Bears Attic' downstairs with the provided pellets when they get up in the morning and again at night before going to bed. Even with our forced air heating the downstairs is always a few degrees cooler than upstairs so we find the Parlour stove makes the area warm and cozy. And besides it's old-timey appearance and crackling flames are fun to watch. And yes, as most other vacation rental owners here, we do request guests to place their dirty dishes in the dishwasher with the supplied detergent tabs and run it when they depart. And now the big one. It is the issue most mentioned by guests not accustomed to living in a rural setting. We do not have the convenience of residental trash pick-up. So we up here on the mountain, resident and guests alike, must bag our trash and transport it to our community Transfer Site located behind the Pine Mountain Clubhouse just about a mile from our cabin. We request that guests do this when departing. (We supply the trash bags.) If you haven't already taken a scenic drive around our beautiful community this gives you the opportunity. This helps insure that our local wildlife remains wild. Trash bags left either in homes or on decks is a great temptation to our forest bears. In fact, Pine Mountain Club fines property owners if anything that would tempt the wildlife is left on the property unattended. All of these guidelines and requirements are in the rental agreement that all guests must review and approve when making a reservation. We apologize if you felt inconvienced, but we feel that it is a small price to pay to be able to experience the wonder and beauty of our mountain community.

Home Away From Home. Rocky Top Lodge is well worth the try, it will keep you coming back again.

  • 5 of 5

Rocky Top Lodge is very comfortable and in a great location. From relaxing on the hammock to playing pool down stairs, this is a place for the entire family to enjoy. The owners made us feel right at home and worked with us on the deposit arrangement. The price per night was very reasonable and well worth every cent. Peace and quite, very clean, close to town and all the comforts of home. The air is clean and fresh, the people all around the village town were very friendly. If you're looking for a place to get away from it all, look no further, Rocky Top Lodge has all that you need. I would love to stay here during the winter months with the ground covered with snow, just might do that. I have already recommended Rocky Top Lodge to many of my friends and co-workers. We really enjoyed the home and look forward to our next visit. Thank You Richard, Linda & Felicity.

This cabin is just filled with wild life and feels like you are deep in the forest. The bears, deer, moose, fish and ducks create a wonderful

decor that bring you into a delightful mountain environment with the most loving touch of details. This place is really unbelievable and should be enjoyed by anyone who wants a relaxing higher elevation experience. The outside wild life is also a treat to watch.

We treat this place like our very own home, with care and conscious behavior. We look out on the mountain range and are refreshed in the

view. We breathe in such wondrous smells that we are invigorated every time we stay here.

The owners Linda and Felicity have been nothing but excellent in their treatment of us and always making sure that we have everything we

may need to enjoy their beautiful cabin.

We look forward to staying here again, and again and again....

PS: My husband and son just love the pool table and couldn't stop playing!!

Many thanks, Deborah, Daniel and Devin

Awesome Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this wonderful home in the mountains, 8/3/16 for 3 nights. The pictures here don't do it justice, and the owners were easy to work with. The home was very clean, and well maintained. We had 3 teenage girls, and a 4 year old with us, and they absolutely didn't want to leave to continue on up the coast for the rest of our vacation. They wanted to stay here the entire time, and we did too. There is plenty of room for everyone, and beds were comfortable. The 2 younger ones loved the bunk beds. The only problem was deciding who got to sleep on the top. LOL! If we come back to California, we will definitely book this place for the entire week.

Thank you for a wonderful beginning to our visit to California!!!!
