About Karen Key Speck

My family saw this property by boat over a hundred years ago and became an original settler on Orcas Island homesteading about 150 acres in total.

Karen Key Speck purchased this cottage in 1890

Why Karen Key Speck chose Orcas Island

There were five children who each inherited property.

My son and I bought this particular piece of land from my brother. We built a new cottage, but retained the rural spirit of the beautiful land, beach and views.

What makes this cottage unique

The end of the road privacy is a special commodity in this busy, hectic world. At our beautiful cottage you can walk the beach, play in the field, sun on the deck, or relax inside with a good book. We invite you to see what our family discovered over 122 years ago. You can even visit the local museum and learn about our homesteading forefathers.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Over the last three years our family have very much enjoyed our stays at beach house #27 near Deer Point and near proximity to Olga. We're looking forward of spending two weeks this summer and will likely continue our tradition of planning our vacations at this location. It's a great place for a family to stay with all the shopping amenities in Eastsound while nearby parks, beaches, and boating are a short distance from the house.

The house is nicely appointed: cable, WiFi, comfortable beds, large kitchen, washer/dryer, and fantastic views of the water. We recommend this location to our friends and family without hesitation.

This home was lovely and the view...oh, the doesn't get any better.

  • 5 of 5

The home was beautiful and very well laid out. You can tell the owners of this property love their home and take pride in how it is cared for. The bed was super comfortable and oh so peaceful. The kitchen had all the cookware you could possibly need. It was immaculately clean, but still had that "lived in" look that lets you know you can just relax and have a good time.

The view and the sunrises were absolutely stunning. I will never need to stay anywhere else on the island. Thank you for the most lovely experience. We will be back very soon.

Breathtaking views and so peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

A friend and I stayed at this cottage for a girl's weekend. It was AWESOME! The views are spectacular, there is a huge herd of deer that like to visit, the peninsula connected to the property has now become my new "happy place." As for the cottage itself, it was clean, comfortable, had everything we needed and the beds were really comfortable! I'd definitely go back and recommend it to anyone looking for a little place to get away from it all.

Owner's Response: I too have a "happy place" and completely understand the joy one brings. We're honored you've found yours at one of our lovely vacation rentals. We hope you can return very soon! We'll put a little placard on your spot on the peninsula. LOL. Karen - Property Manager Cherie L. Lindholm RE

Serene and scenic getaway on Orcas

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful weekend at this vacation rental with its stunningly scenic and idyllic setting. The cottage itself is well equipped in every way and was very cozy and comfortable for our group of three family members. We also had the pleasure of visiting briefly with Dorothy and learning about the history of the property. The weather could have been more cooperative but that is seldom in our hands in the Pacific NW! The sun finally came out just as we were taking the ferry back on Sunday. We will definitely keep this as our first option for a future longer visit to the San Juan Islands.

Fabulous 2 BR Waterfront House on Orcas, Reasonable Priced!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for the second time this summer, and were "wowed" even more than on our first visit (if that's possible)! This two bedroom, two bath house is so comfortable, private, and pretty, with spectacular views (we had the most glorious full moon over the water that I've ever seen) and your "own" beach for launching kayaks and skipping rocks. It's an easy drive to Eastsound with its amenities, but who wants to leave such an idyllic place? The hosts are friendly and helpful but not intrusive at all. We are going to try to come back again in every season!

Private beach with view!

  • 5 of 5

My parents and I rented this little cottage for 3 nights in September. We had amazing weather and the house and grounds were perfect for us. My mother loved the kitchen, and my Dad and I the view of the water, private beach and view of Mt. Baker. I spent all of the mornings watching the sunrise over Mt. Baker just to go back and watch the alpenglow on Mt. Baker as the sunset behind us. Neighbors were quiet. House had everything we needed. I believe the owner is a descendant of the original homesteader and we chatted with some family a bit when they drove down the lane. Very welcoming and friendly. The rental company was easy to work with and gave very detailed directions on how to get to this little part of the island. The only thing I would change for next time is maybe to pay for the housecleaning as the list of things to do made us a bit nervous. That said, I promptly received my full deposit back. Would definitely return.
