Perfect comfortable space tucked in the middle of everything

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay very much at this location. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen well-supplied. The view of the Bay from the kitchen window and the outside deck is a treat. The outside deck/yard area is very attractive with comfortable chairs and other outdoor seating. We didn't spend much time out there though because in the morning and evenings it was pretty foggy and chilly (we were there in late June). The 1/2 bath makes it very doable with 4 people. We also needed to use the washer and dryer which was great to have. Also, the bikes are lots of fun and allowed us to explore the coast towards Pebble Beach and beyond. The paved trail is literally out the door from the house. Great coffee shop directly on the water just down the street. Our family of four was quite comfortable there and I would highly recommend it to other couples or families.

Great location - lovely home with perfect amenities

  • 4 of 5

This was one of our favorite house rentals - the parking was ample and adjacent, the home clean and well furnished, and the location perfect to hook onto the Monterey bike/runner path to the aquarium, harbor and downtown. Just a true pleasure to stay here!

Mixed feelings

  • 3 of 5

The positives - 1) Fantastic location! It's an easy walk to the aquarium, restaurants, waterfront, cannery row. View of the ocean out of the living area bay window. 2) Very comfortable master bed. 3) Amenities for children available - we used the high chair, but not the pack n play. Discovered on our last day that there are baby/child toys in one of the storage ottomans.

The negatives - 1) Old and outdated - The unit is in need of major updating and is not a comfortable place to just relax. The furniture (love seat especially) is cheap and looks like it's about to fall apart. Many cosmetic items could use an overhaul (painting over scuffs on the wall, replacing the towel rack that is missing, etc.). I understand it's probably not in the owners interest to spend $$$ on these things, but even a small amount would really improve it. We didn't use any kitchen appliances except the refrigerator. 2) Noisy 2nd bedroom and uncomfortable bed - My kids (toddler and preschool age) slept on it and didn't complain, but laying on it for 5 minutes was uncomfortable for an adult. Due to it's location, it can be very noisy from street traffic. It was fine for my family, but just FYI the full bathroom area is located in the master bedroom, so privacy in the master is limited.

Mixed - The outdoor area has beautiful plants and flowers. There's a chimea for having a backyard fireplace. It's a neat space for adults, but a bit treacherous for little kids. The deck looks a bit like it's about to fall apart and appears haphazardly patched up in places.

If you're looking for a rental to use mainly as a base to explore the Cannery Row/Aquarium area on foot or bike, it's fantastic. If you want somewhere to relax and unwind, there are likely better options. I felt that for the price of $300 per night, it should have been more comfortable than a standard motel.

Perfect location and beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect choice for a stay in Monterey. This is truly an unbelievable location next to Cannery Row. Very comfy, great bedding, all the kitchen items one needs (although we had lunch/dinner out to sample all the great restaurants in the area). Nice patio - we had morning coffee out there. Very highly recommend and Hayley is great host.

Terrible curb appeal, and run down

  • 3 of 5

Aside from the fact that this property is close to the Monterey bay aquarium, I was very disappointed with the home. The curb appeal is so horrible that when I pulled up, I hoped I was mistaken and had the wrong house. The inside wasn't much better. Furniture was cheap, none of the TVs worked, and the kitchen and bathrooms were so dated they felt dirty. The half bath is TINY. It was difficult for 4 adults to get ready in this home. I would equate the home to a 2-3 star motel quality. Plus, Cannery Row was disappointing (again, aside from the aquarium). The shops are filled with tourist junk, nothing of quality, and the restaurants are mostly chain (el Torito, Bubba Gump, chart house). I would stay somewhere closer to pacific grove or near the old wharf and downtown Monterey instead of near cannery row. Further, there was no air conditioning, and due to legitimate safety concerns, it was unsafe to leave any of the windows open. There was only one fan for the entire house. I was disappointed by this home. I would not recommend staying here.

Owner's Response: I am so sorry you were not happy with the area of Monterey or the home. To address a few things: yes, Cannery row is a tourist area. That being said, it's a quick walk or even quicker bike ride to pretty remote and many private little beaches or coastal benches if that what you would have preferred. As shown on the map on the website- this home is located in the heart of Cannery Row. Regarding the places to eat- you name three of many many place to eat. Yes- there are the big names of bubba gumps restaurant, chart house or el Torito - but there are SO many others that I would have been happy to sugggest to you if given the opportunity. For future guests, within walking distance to home there are places like- Bistro Moulin, Schooners, Hullas, Crystal Fish and so many other local go to places. About the home- the house is a historic home that is located in a historical area of Monterey. We find the age to be quaint and simplicity something we enjoy. The furniture- the bed is tempupedic, TV's not working? I would have again been happy to show you how to turn them on. :-) I just needed to be aware of the issues. I agree hat the exterior house could use a paint job- we are working on getting this on our to do list. The half bath is literally a toilet and small sink. Just used for the basics. The windows are purposefully left without screens- the home is one story and many enjoy this open airy feel. No need for AC in Monterey. You won't fine a home with that. ;-) The area is so safe. We live very close and spend a lot of time at the home ourselves and have never had a problem. I don't know anyone who has had security issues. The shops are tourist shops- but there's a outlet right across from aquarium for some great clothing, shoes and much more if you wanted more shopping. I appreciate your feedback and we will try to improve the home and keep maitenence up of course- however I feel like the fit with the area and what you were looking for in your stay wasn't a good match. I agree- something more remote and high end would have been more appropriate. The home is clean, simple and charming, located in a fabulous location for sight seeing and active guests who enjoy being in the heart of Monterey with capability to walk to so much!!
