About Edie Pruitt

After Hurricane Claudette destroyed the home we had as children in 2003 my family and I rebuilt this home. Tommy and I were married on the lower deck in 2005 and lived in the home for two years after opening Spoonbills, the restaurant, in Matagorda.

Edie Pruitt purchased this house in 2005

Why Edie Pruitt chose Gulf Coast

My family has had this property for more than 50 years. Matagorda beach holds some of my favorite childhood memories. It is a quiet beach where you can drive for 21 miles and sometimes never see another person.

What makes this house unique

There is nothing better than waking up to see the waves rolling onto the beach. The upper deck is the perfect place for that morning cup of coffee with sunrise or even better a cold drink to enjoy sunset.

Amazing week, amazing views!

  • 5 of 5

We had such an amazing week, we didn't want to go home!!! The house was perfect for our family of 6. Having 3 bathrooms and 2 showers was so great with 4 kids! The house was very clean and the kitchen was great for cooking. We spent our days playing in the sand and waves, searching for shells, fishing, walking to the fishing pier, walking to the nature center, relaxing on one of the two decks! Both of which had amazing views! What I wouldn't give to wake up to those views every morning! (The over protective mom in me has to give one safety note-careful of the deck railings if you have young children there were some lose and missing railings). Evenings were spent cooking and grilling with those amazing views! Plan your meals ahead of time to get groceries before you get to Matagorda. There's Stanely's convenience store to get necessities, some food, beach toys, fishing poles, beer, wine etc. There are restaurants, shopping, ice cream. What else....The stars were amazing on clear nights. If you want some quality time playing with kids in the sand, a great house to relax in, and great deck to enjoy the ocean views-this house was perfect! The owner is SO nice and helpful, we would recommend this house to friends and family and hope it becomes a regular place we get to visit! Thanks Edie!

Beach House

  • 5 of 5

This is a very lovely beach house. The house was very clean and accommodating for 5 adults. Very quiet and yes, the balconies do offer very nice views and breezes. The owner is very sweet and helpful. I highly recommend a stay here if you are looking for a nice, relaxing vacation. Very beautiful spot on the Texas Gulf Coast.

Fantastic hidden gem on quiet, secluded beach!!!

  • 5 of 5

Had the BEST family vacation yet in this fabulous beach house. Just yards from the beach, very quiet, very few other people - even on the July 4th week! The best part was the view from the second floor deck. It HAS to be the best view in all of Matagorda! The owner is extremely kind and welcoming. Can't say enough good things about this place. Just don't want to let too many people know, because we'd really like to return soon!!!

Beautiful view, comfortable house, short walk over the dune to the beach.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this beach house very much. The view from all of the balconies are fantastic but the top floor view is spectacular. After playing all day at the beach located just a short walk over the dune from the house, it was nice to sit on the balcony and enjoy the evening breeze and the relaxing sound of the waves. The kitchen had all of the cooking utensils, plates, cups, etc. that we needed. We had six in our party; two adults, two adult children and two teenagers. The beds were comfortable and everyone had enough room. It was nice having the washer and dryer to dry out those beach towels instead of hanging them over the railings and obstructing the beautiful view. My husband and kids enjoyed a guided fishing trip from one of the many guides in the area. The owners were friendly and helpful. We had no problems during our stay but they have a restaurant (with great food) located nearby so if we had needed something they would have been easily accessible. There is only a small "grocery" type store in town so if you are cooking for or feeding a crew, I would recommend stopping in Bay City for groceries before you come into Matagorda. Overall a great place and we hope to be able to stay here again in the future.
